In the show, Tao's tongue attack only causes bruising from the outside. In the manga, he punched a hole right into Blue's head, blood and all. Tao Pai Pai doesn't screw around.
The first real villain was General Blue. Goku never got a decisive win over him. Seemingly in a 1v1. They might have been evenly matched. But a proper 1v1 never really happened. Tao Pai Pai was the first real threat of death.
And the crazy thing about General Blue, he was killed BECAUSE he was loyal (enough) to the Red Ribbon Army- he could've bounced, tried to get the Dragon Balls for himself, hid away on some island, etc. Instead, he hiked halfway around the world to bring the RRA the Dragon Radar, and was killed for his trouble.
Fun fact: Mercenary Tao's original japanese name (Tao Pei Pei; the last two syllables are pronounced the same as "pie" in English ... as in apple pie or cream pie) actually has two different meanings. In Japanese, his name literally just means "Peach White White." Since he's a part of the Red Ribbon Army story arc, he has to be named after a color. But in Chinese, his name roughly means "contract killer," which is his in-universe occupation. This is because, in Chinese, "Tao" roughly translates to "path" (like a path in life), "profession," or "career." Meanwhile, in Chinese, the word "pei" is a verb that means "to kill" or "to murder." Of course, there are two "pei"s in his name, and according to Chinese grammar, repetition of the verb implies repetition of the action. So put them all together, and his name in Chinese roughly translates to "Career of many killings." It's not a perfect translation, mind you, but then again, the name needed to make sense in two different languages, so cut Toriyama some slack.
@@patrickh6571 Meh ... it only sounds fitting from the point of view of an English speaker. It probably doesn't sound like anything in German, the language it was adapted into.
I wonder if its not meant to be a name, like Turtle and Crane Hermit are titles not names so maybe "Contract Killer" is a title instead of a name too (for those who dont know, Roshi isnt turtle hermits name its part of muten roshi, another title, and Crane hermit isnt named in the original at all "shen" is a dub invention).
@@saphcal I personally feel it would be kind of a dull title. Such an alias would only work if Tao wasn't just the world's most feared assassin, but the ONLY assassin for hire in the ENTIRE world. By contrast, Master Roshi's Japanese name/title works because the alias doesn't simply convey that he is "a" martial arts master. Rather, his full Japanese name roughly translates to English as _"HEAVENLY_ Martial Arts Master," which elevates him above other martial arts teachers.
Tao riding on the pillar doesn't mean he's a witch. His throw force is so strong that the pillar keeps flying to the direction he wants, and not to mention his jump to the flying pillar. It's all martial art, no sorcery involved.
The deaths is what make this arc more intense. And yeah I think Blue deserved some respect, especially from general Red. He brought some results despite overwhelming odds and he remains the most competent red ruban army officer.
This was a really cool intro to the character. Pretty much the final boss of the red ribbon arc cuz commander red and general black where kind of a joke
As a kid I was terrified at how Tao handled the indian warrior like a baby. A total feeling of powerlessness/despair, despite how strong that indian guy was shown to be against the red ruban army officer.
you know... "big bad" guy unironically wearing or being pink/purple is at this point a real thing in Dragon Ball... I mean Tao (pink clothes), Piccolo (purple clothes), Freeza (pink and purple forms), Vegeta (pink shirt), Cell (pink egg, purple-ish perfect form), Majin Buu (whole pink), Beerus (whole purple), Black (pink SSJ), Hit (whole purple), Zeno (purple skin, pinkish clothes)... with the exception of Gohan wearing Piccolo's gear sometimes and Trunks' hair, pink and purple are practically reserved for antagonists... Toriyama always liked simplicity.
"I heard that a long time ago, someone did make it to the top" "Who?" Oh, you'll find out ^_^ "Blue is gone!... ...but now I kind of miss him actually." XD Don't know what you got til it's gone.
in case it wasnt clear melon, its hard to tell in the vid, but Tao isnt a witch, he just used his massive strength to chuck the pillar and then jump up on it and ride it. lol its nutty and so toriyama.
6:49 No lol didn’t you just see him throw it? Just physical strength and he’s riding it as it flys through the air. He’s not using any sort of “witch” powers, magic or any other type power to keep it up in the air, it’s just the momentum continuing from just how hard he launched it into the sky.
Bonus fact: Tao murdered Mr Satan's martial arts teacher and almost killed him too after they mocked his ponytail in a bar. Anyhow I really enjoy Tao. Really feels like a villain in an 80s hong kong movie.
Did he fight Mr. Satan and almost kill him that way… or was that he was about to kill him but decided to spare him? (For whatever the reason may have been) Lol Essentially, I guess what I’m asking is if he fought Hercule or not and if so well did he stand up against him. Like was he (Hercule) able to land any hits of his own? Would he have been able to last more than a singular hit from Tao, etc..
11:15 Lol No he *definitely* did! Remember he was about to smash both Krillin and Goku (KIDS) heads in, was about to smash Krillin’s head with a huge rock and was about to smash Goku’s head with a tree trunk.
She got fully invested when tao killed blue and the indian guy, complete with a genuine gasp. Lol. Tao does get.missed in villain chats. Hes one of the first in the series besides maybe roshi to fight in the way that later seasons and Z will recreate throughout super and gt.
Hi Melon This episode was really sad I felt really bad for upa and Bora were such kindhearted characters and than Mercenarie Tao should up and killed Bora with his own weapon so Tao is basically saying I am stronger than you But yes I was on Goku side I saw that and I was very angry
In the show, Tao's tongue attack only causes bruising from the outside. In the manga, he punched a hole right into Blue's head, blood and all. Tao Pai Pai doesn't screw around.
Almost everyone: King Piccolo is the first real villan in Dragon Ball.
Mercenary Tao: Am I a joke to you?
So much so that a comedian that plays with puppets stole catchphrase off your back
yes, yes you are TaoPaiPai lol
The first real villain was General Blue. Goku never got a decisive win over him. Seemingly in a 1v1. They might have been evenly matched. But a proper 1v1 never really happened. Tao Pai Pai was the first real threat of death.
I would say so. Tao was the first villain to give a run on Goku, Piccolo though was the first to cause devastating deaths

In German, the P was changed to a B, therefore it's Tao Bai Bai for us, pronounced like "Tao bye bye", quite fitting for his profession 😁
@@patrickh6571 Meh ... it only sounds fitting from the point of view of an English speaker. It probably doesn't sound like anything in German, the language it was adapted into.
@Acerthorn Bro everybody in Germany understood it. I was like 8 years old when Dragonball was on TV back than and I got the joke

Yes! We finally get Mercenary Tao! And man what a debut it is!
The moment we all got to know that this show is getting real serious.
The fact that that Indian kid made it into dragon ball z video game and his father didn’t shocked me
Tao was an absolute menace, heavily underrated introduction
I'll never forget seeing the "tongue kill" as a kid, me and my brother were laughing like crazy 😂
If I remember right, yes, that tongue blow did kill General Blue. One hit, with his TONGUE.
The deaths is what make this arc more intense.
And yeah I think Blue deserved some respect, especially from general Red. He brought some results despite overwhelming odds and he remains the most competent red ruban army officer.
so happy we made it this far!

Me watching the spear throw.
"Oh, hey. Nimbus will catch him."
Slams onto the ground.
"Oh. Nevermind."
This is when things get dark.
Tao taking out that column is just the most gangsta scene ever.
"So he's a witch" that made me laugh, funny stuff.
2:30 Nah, we needed a way to show how tough Tao Pai Pai was.
👆 *This Right Here.*
This guy had the hardest from Hero to Zero in the Show. But the first Szenes of him where absolute Gold.
This was a really cool intro to the character. Pretty much the final boss of the red ribbon arc cuz commander red and general black where kind of a joke
Mercenary Tao is actually top 3 most villainous villians in all of Dragonball
You laugh is so contagious 😂😂😂😂crack me up every time
Dragon ball gets real here
That was karma for Blue. He executed 3 of his soldiers earlier. He was at least given a chance, poor Silver got executed with no second thoughts.
This episode is dark because this marks the official first death of a heroic character
the first time I got introduced to this guy is when he ran away from Gohan
" please to kill you" -mercany tao
As a kid I was terrified at how Tao handled the indian warrior like a baby. A total feeling of powerlessness/despair, despite how strong that indian guy was shown to be against the red ruban army officer.
Do you mean indigenous? Because Indian people are from India

Mercenary Tao is about that life fr
"I heard that a long time ago, someone did make it to the top"
"Who?"
Oh, you'll find out ^_^
"Blue is gone!...
...but now I kind of miss him actually."
XD Don't know what you got til it's gone.
General Blueis basically Guldo of the Ginyu Force with time to shine
More Melon and Dragon Ball
this is really great and it is
also very funny as always
Thank You Melon.😎👍👑
He has finally arrived.
2 deaths in one episode. what a twist!
in case it wasnt clear melon, its hard to tell in the vid, but Tao isnt a witch, he just used his massive strength to chuck the pillar and then jump up on it and ride it. lol its nutty and so toriyama.

I just noticed that two characters died in this episode
Tao doesn't waste no time at all when I comes to smoking someone's pack🤷♂️🤣🤣 W vid and reaction 💯
Yea more animelon great
Just you wait until you see more about the lore of that tower 👀
Bonus fact: Tao murdered Mr Satan's martial arts teacher and almost killed him too after they mocked his ponytail in a bar.
Anyhow I really enjoy Tao. Really feels like a villain in an 80s hong kong movie.

Bora die front of Goku's eyes.. make Goku really angry.. like a frieza kill Crilin front of Goku's eyes... should become super saiyan in this episode.
To convert you must have a power greater than that of the Ginyu forces
Tao is insanely strong and so sad they died
I always laugh when Tao kills Blue with his tongue 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
…like no one ever was…
Before the Vegeta “bad man” there was Tao’s “kill you”
Now.....we getting into actual plot.
FINALLY, HE'S HERE!
The tongue attack makes me a little afraid of Tao
somebody’s doing og dragon ball reactions?! 🥹
Hey, did she already saw the movies after super?
this went hard
She got fully invested when tao killed blue and the indian guy, complete with a genuine gasp. Lol. Tao does get.missed in villain chats. Hes one of the first in the series besides maybe roshi to fight in the way that later seasons and Z will recreate throughout super and gt.
Tao kinda nasty with it.
I see Meli I press like
Tao is prob the strongest human alive at this point? The dude is like 1/5 of a Raditz.
Poor General Blue 😢
He is my fave from RR army 💙
Whoever told you DragonBall was a kids show?lol
Fun fact : Roshi has climbed the tower before anyone 😎😎😎
That’s not a “FuN fAcT”, that’s a spoiler…
Do you read the dragon ball manga series and do you play any of the games?
As a kid this episode was sad
can you do 2 episodes per video
Tao Pai Pai isn't a with. He's actually super strong.
dr slump and taos voice is the same
Name one villain from Z, GT, or Super that murdered someone with their tongue (aside from Buu eating people).
Hi Melon
This episode was really sad
I felt really bad for upa and Bora were such kindhearted characters and than Mercenarie Tao should up and killed Bora with his own weapon so Tao is basically saying I am stronger than you
But yes I was on Goku side I saw that and I was very angry
Who told you this was a kids show?
Looks like General Blue
*got licked*
Yes
1:43- 2:10 Lol. Idk but what’s wrong with the face of these black dudes?!!! Can anyone explain. They Look freaking sunflower🌻
Ikr sunflower???😆
🎉🎉🎉
I don’t understand why general blue was afraid of commander red anyway?
Cause he had all the Soldiers in his Command? Even if Blue was the atrongest RR Soldier, besides maybe Black. He wouldnt make it out of the HQ alive.
I don’t think Blue was bullet proof
I mean he’s is weak
@@stevenphillips8366 He nearly beat Goku, and he defeated Kuririn, who was strong at the Time.
He was a comic Relive, but not weak.
You got a good point
🤭🙃
They can't do my man Blue like this he was so loyal and was making the best plays he could
imagine you being licked and then you dying, AniMelon... that would be insane 😳😂😂
