I worked 32 hours in Los Angeles my first days (this past Fri-Sun) with my 2022 Tesla Model 3 Performance. I made over $1,100, and the rate I'm paying Hertz is $430/week. Charging cost is fairly minimal, I've probably supercharged about $50 worth so far, and of course I still have today and the next 3 days to make money driving until I have to pay again to renew. It is worth it, but only if you are willing to work very long hours, and take few days off. And of course you have to live in an area where the rides are consistent almost any time of day.
This is great insight! I definitely agree, this seems to make the most sense in busier more congested areas where the rides and chargers are abundant. I appreciate you sharing your experience!
I do plan to do that soon, almost exactly like how you do it. Do you think we could get in touch and you can explain how you work it? I plan to just do finance and use UBER or DoorDash to pay it. Sounds dumb but it’s possible
So you drove a total of 32hrs in Two days which comes out to 15-16hrs per day….. which is not true because of DOT regulations. You’re only allowed 12hrs shifts per day then you’re account becomes locked. Don’t misinform ( LIE) about you’re experience…..thanks.
Instead of texting each passenger how to operate door handle I’ve put a sticker that says PUSH on the side of the handle where they need to push it. Also I’ve put a sticker OPEN DOOR on the button that opens door. BUT WAIT!!! There is more! 😂 I’ve put a note explaining that you need to manually push the door while pressing OPEN DOOR button 😂. Problem solved 👍
I had to put stickers on the inside handles of my Ford Explorer. They are always like, "wow! That is so nice! I haven't seen something like this before, is it a new car?" I say, no, it's a 2009 😂 Ford just liked the fancy space-age silver handles.
Note, if you get into one of the Tesla rental programs for Uber, you cannot use the standard IRS tax deduction since you don’t own the vehicle. And, if you buy a Tesla for Uber, remember to include depreciation of the vehicle in your deduction calculations. Depreciation is going to add up to over 25 cents a mile. You’re also going to have higher insurance and have to buy tires more frequently. By my calculations you’re barely coming in under the standard deduction rate.
Hertz real price is 520.00 (commercial insurance + fees) a week and if you return the car earlier they will still charge the driver for the entire week. And tesla charging stations are also on the expensive side which is 28.00 for 270 miles and you have to wait about half an hour for an 80% charge.
Yeah the whole Hertz Uber pairing doesn't seem to be the most viable solution yet. It's cool that it's an option, but especially in terms of rentals it doesn't seem to make the most financial sense.
I just booked with hertz and I got 336 insurance included and the of course $200 deposit but that’s goes on the Cc. It’s might not be good but I still want to try it for myself
Tesla chargers are the cheapest and certainly aren’t 28$ to get 270mi. For one you are paying for kilowatts. So for a base model 3 you are paying 18 bucks at worst for a full charge. Which which you wouldn’t be paying because no one drives down to 0%. Also 30 minutes for a lunch break isn’t bad at all 🤷🏾♂️
Idk hertz Atlanta told me no fees for charging. Plus I know someone that lives in Ohio that doesn’t pay for tesla charging through hertz. I guess it depends on where you live. Seems like the west coast would be free also.
Get the drop stop for the front seats. Comes in clutch! You’ll never drop another fry or your phone in between your center console and your seat ever again. Thanks for the video man! Just started driving Uber with my model 3.
While you still can't get the app on the screen, there's an update incoming that supposedly will automatically send the pickup and dropoff location to your Tesla's navigation!

“Destinations” does not work…. if you are going from point B to point C they will take you back to point A to go go to point B…they really need to fix that “feature”
I agree. The destinations feature is flawed. There have been multiple times where I have a destination set for 7am for example and the app gives me a scheduled ride with a pickup window that doesn't start until 7am 🤦♂️
I set a destination for my house one night and I picked up the ride on the way to my house but the drop off was 15 miles east of my valley and I live about a mile north of the freeway. I live in Honolulu, Hawai’i.

I've had my car for 2 years and 45k miles now and, like I've said, I dont do Uber full time, but my white seats don't show any discoloration after wiping them down. If you like the way they look, absolutely go for it!
I drive a Toyota Highlander with white leather interior and let me tell you if you wear blue jeans especially the black ones it will transfer the color to the lighter interior so if I buy a Tesla, I am now going to opt for the black interior. Yes, the denim color can come out of your seats but you have to have a special chemical for it or you have to really be washing your seats like every week ! I get out of my car about 50% of the time I’m picking someone up because they typically need to get into my trunk and I have to put my seats down so the color transfer of denim or just anything black is slowly transferring
I actually got a phone mount that attaches to the back of the screen and looks quite OEM. It's linked in the description below! I use a combination of Uber navigation and Tesla navigation. I like having it show on the car screen, but Uber navigation will usually give the better approach direction so you're dropping off the passenger on the right side of the street.
While you still can't get the app on the screen, there's an update incoming that supposedly will automatically send the pickup and dropoff location to your Tesla's navigation!
For me, the doors unlock when the car is in park. There have been a few instances where I don't put the car in park and they can't open the door, then I realized I never put it in park.
@@DriveMiles There is a small lock on the top left of the map and that is actually for the doors. This way you dont need to park the car for people to get in.
If you have the stay within the area filter, I suggest to use it. I live in Vegas and I use it every day because I don’t want to go way out on the outskirts of Vegas. I focus within the airport, strip and downtown/freemont area. I can filter as small as a 5 mile radius to a much bigger radius. With Lyft, you have to be in silver status to get 2 filters. I’m at the gold status, and I get 3 filters. With Uber, I can only use the destination filter because I have not reached platinum status on Uber. I don’t know if other cities or states do the stay within the area filter like Vegas does, but it’s worth it if you are in busy city/state that you can get rides easily anytime of the day. Before I moved to Vegas from California 8 years ago. I did Uber Lyft my first year in OC Cali for one year there from 2015 to 2016. At that time, they did not have the stay within the area filter. I sure wish they did, because I was stuck in traffic with all the major freeways 91, 55, 57, 22, just to name a few. I lived in Anaheim Ca at the time. When someone from the OC wanted a ride to LAX, Hollywood, DTLA, Pasadena etc from the Orange County area, it really sucked to me back then. Having the stay in area filter really helps me out with a lot of things. I plan on getting a EV car within the next 2 years hopefully sooner, but we will see. Thanks for the advice and video. Good job 👍
Thanks for sharing your experience! That "stay within" feature would have been so nice to have. It sucks that it's reserved for platinum only, but that's incentive to get there I guess! Traffic in/near the big cities can be really awful. Thanks for watching and I wish you the best!
Unfortunately there's no way to connect Uber to the car at the moment. Fingers crossed that eventually there will be some way to have it on the screen whether through an app or other means, but for now the only option is to manually input the destination.
While you still can't get the app on the screen, there's an update incoming that supposedly will automatically send the pickup and dropoff location to your Tesla's navigation!
A little late to the party... But awesome video! I'm researching everything Tesla the past couple of weeks, I currently do Uber and Lyft with my 2018 Prius C... But, in a couple of days, I'm taking delivery of my 2023 Model Y AWD Long Range! It will be the Midnight Silver Metallic, already got a bunch of stuff here and coming for it to protect the interior. Once I get it, I'm heading directly to the Vinyl Protection Ship, getting the front wrapped, white seats ceramic coated, and a POWER Frunk!!! Super excited!!!
Congratulations!!! Better late than never! It's such a great car and I think you'll love it! It definitely comes with a little lifestyle change in terms of charging, but I've found I much prefer that to having to go to gas stations. I'm definitely curious to hear what you think after driving it for some time!
So far, I have just about 30,000 miles on my car and my maintenance has included a $100 alignment, 3 bottles of windshield washer fluid ($5 each), and 1 wiper blade ($26). So that calculates out to $0.0047/mile. Still on original tires, though I expect to replace them within the next 10-20k miles.
The inconvenient door handles is certainly one concern I would have. Having to explain 50 times a day to your passenger how to open a door, kind of proves that it's a pretty terrible design. Be really nice if they would implement Android auto and Apple carplay. Then you wouldn't have to manually input the address every single time. You would hit start trip and it would automatically pop it up on the big screen. Honestly I would just Mount the phone right next to the screen and just use the phone for navigation as I do currently. Have you had any problems with people having difficulty getting into the back seat. The roof line is pretty low, I had a friend that I took to the Tesla showroom, she had some mobility issues and I wanted to test it out with her. She could not get into the backseat of a model 3. She put her butt on the seat and could not duck her head enough under the roof line to actually enter the car. The model y she had no issues with. Thanks for the tips.
Android Auto/Carplay would be a great addition for that reason especially. I have actually invested in a mount that holds the phone close to the left side of the screen and definitely like it. I haven't had many problems in terms of getting into the back seat. There are maybe 3 times that I can remember helping a handicapped person into the backseat. It's definitely easier than with the 3. In addition to the relatively low roof line, the bottom area of the back door where you put your feet in and out is relatively small too. Plenty of scuffs there.
@@DriveMiles That's what I noticed too getting it in and out with the legs can be problematic in the three. The model S surprisingly isn't that great either. The door opening was surprisingly not that large. I took a look at a 2015 s. Took a tape measure with me just trying to measure like the distance from the back of the front seat to the front of the back seat edge the door opening how wide the door swings open etc trying to get some actual measurements rather than just seeing how it looked. I was kind of surprised that my Prius actually has an easier entry and exit than that Model S. I then went and looked at a model 3 and surprisingly it was actually easier to get in and out of the model 3 for myself than the Model S. But I took a friend of mine who is physically challenged, her hips don't work very well she's short and kind of plump. And she actually could not get into the backseat of a model 3. She has to sit down on the seat and then rotate into a car. And the distance to the roof line was too low and she could not tuck her head under the roof line while sitting on the back seat to get in the vehicle. We tried the model y and it was perfectly fine for her. The problem is I really don't want to spend $65,000 for a car to drive Uber. I can almost buy three Priuses for that price and I would never save enough in fuel and maintenance to equal the difference. The Chevy bolt is kind of intriguing to me, I took her to take a look at one of those and that car was perfectly easy to get in and out of in the backseat. Of course it's lacking DC fast charging speeds. But day in and day out it would be a much better Uber car. And for the difference in price I could just keep my Prius for long road trips if necessary
I have about 400 trips driving my M Y on the Uber platform and most people figure out the door handles just fine. Occasionally I have to roll down a window and explain it, but mostly people do okay with them. Small lettering decals might help: “push” on one section and then “pull” on the top of the long skinny part might work. But then the decals might fall off and get stuck behind the lever. Everything’s a trade off. I find people have a harder time figuring out how to push the button on the inside of the door handle to get out of the car as compared to operating the outside door handle. I find this strange because it literally has a picture of an open door on it, and it is the only glowing thing in the back of the car. 🤷♂️
@@aaronbounds1336 Where I live there are just a lot less Teslas in general. And I kept imagining that every single time I pick up a passenger I'm going to have to roll down the window and explain how to open the damn door. The interior door bothered me too. I think somebody makes bright orange stickers or brighter LEDs or something or maybe both that you can put in that inside door switch. I think that was a bigger fear for me. You get some intoxicated young female that can't figure out how to get out of your car and begins to panic. Not going to end well. I wish they would do a door handle more like the Volkswagen ID4 where it looks like a door handle and you just reach your hand under it and pull. Or do it like the new cybertruck where there's a big button you press and the door pops open and you just grab the door and open it. That would be okay too. I'm not a Tesla hater at all I think they're awesome cars. But at the time I made my purchase those were the things I was thinking about, plus the car I bought was $20,000 cheaper than any Tesla I could have purchased so it was kind of a no-brainer. Also gets my feet wet with EVs.
This is a big lie I rented a Tesla from hertz to drive for Uber info it full time and range is very limited chargers are very spread out and was at the charger 3-4 times in a day and was very frustrating because there is not chargers in remote areas we get rides that are 1-3 hours long never know where u gonna be this is still not ready for full time drivers if u do 2-3 rides here and there and in the city then ya Tesla Can work not for full time drivers like me plus charging takes time from your day when u Can just be working instead of charging all the time ! Thx hope this helps for full time drivers
This video was made purely from my experience. It's great to hear from someone who was able to rent an Uber from Hertz for use with Uber! I'm assuming the vehicles that Hertz is renting out are the Standard Range models which do have a slightly more limited range. While it was my only source of income at the time, I was only driving for between 20-25 hours per week and doing around 50 rides per week. I can definitely see it being more limiting than an ICE vehicle, although depending on where you live, the Tesla Supercharger network is very robust and quite common. You can be back on the road after 15 minutes with plenty of charge to continue driving. I appreciate you sharing your point of view! I'm very interested to see how EVs progress and become more practical for these uses in the coming years.
Do you know what model you had? If it wasn't a long range that can get 200+ real world miles then it definitely wouldn't work. Although I could see 2+ hour rides being a potential issue even for long range if you have those back to back and all highway miles.
seems like less a “lie” a more like it just isn’t your situation…driving in Denver there are nothing but superchargers everywhere. Im renting one just for the experience…hoping it will go well, but I’ll be back in my standard transmission “ICE”(?) vehicle when I get a little front end damage fixed. And if it goes well I’ll consider finding a EV in the future.
Just reach out and open the door yourself. Or just open the door for customers every time. Your chances of getting a tip and 5 star will increase as well as more steps to burn calories)))
11:55, in the wrong direction: This is such a perverted feature of Uber. It did that to me many times - to the point that I could no longer trust it. One time I got so pissed after it took me 7 miles in the totally opposite direction plus right after that another ride going sideway and further away, I had to call Uber support. They gave me $5 as compensation. I never bothered with it again ever since.
I picked up a Tesla Model 3 from hertz today for Uber. Prior picking up the Tesla I used a Bolt. It was super easy, as the Bolt had Carplay. With my phone connected to the Bolt, the Uber App was integrated into CarPlay. As a result, I could navigate/accept trips on my iPhone and bolts screen interchangeably. With the Tesla, I’m needing to put a customers customer’s address in the Tesla navigation separately. Is there a way to make this easier? I’ve seen a device that lets the Tesla’s utilize CarPlay, but I’d like my passengers to get the full Tesla experience on the teslas interface. I’m new to Uber, so please excuse my confusing question.
Yeah unfortunately I think a third-party device is the only option at this time. I use the voice commands to make it quicker and easier. Hopefully eventually Tesla will have an app store or something that enables native support for Uber!
I heard people had problems using the Tesla supercharger renting from Hertz as they don't have their accounts set up. I recommend renting any other electric car like the Chevrolet bolt EV or EUV.
While you still can't get the app on the screen, there's an update incoming that supposedly will automatically send the pickup and dropoff location to your Tesla's navigation!
I just started driving this weekend, I have no audio from the Uber App at all. Tried all the tips to fix but nothing works…assume it is because my phone connects to my Tesla
Sharing the location to Tesla on Google maps is one of my favorite features of the app. It's very unfortunate that it's not a feature for Waze. Hopefully soon!
While you still can't get the app on the screen, there's an update incoming that supposedly will automatically send the pickup and dropoff location to your Tesla's navigation!
To my understanding the car has to be black on the inside and outside to qualify for Uber black. It's never been an option for me in my app, but those options change depending on where you are in the country. I do have access to Uber Premier. I always have that option on, but have never gotten an Uber Premier request. Most of my rides are UberX with an occasional Uber Comfort ride. That will all depend on where you drive though! Thanks for watching!
When I got mine a little over a year ago it did come with a mobile charger. To my understanding they no longer come with the mobile charger, but you can buy one with the car for just $200. 120v charging is very slow (3-5 mph) but can help in a pinch. Free charging at work is great!
It's worth noting that I've never worked full-time for Uber. At most I was driving 7-8 hours and 100-200 miles per day with a decent break mid-day when I would charge at a level 2 charger. On those longer days I would have to charge at least once.
To my understanding, the requirements for Uber black are a car that is black on the outside and black leather (or vegan leather) inside. This might not be true everywhere though.
My real-world range is anywhere between 250-300 miles depending on where most of the driving is happening (highway vs back roads). I don't think it would be possible to do a full day of Uber without charging, but it'll definitely be a nice break opportunity when you have to charge! Using a Tesla, or any electric vehicle for that matter won't be for everyone just yet. In most congested areas there are likely enough chargers to not be a problem, and it's getting better every day.
While you still can't get the app on the screen, there's an update incoming that supposedly will automatically send the pickup and dropoff location to your Tesla's navigation!
In the top right corner there's a little magnifying glass search icon. Tap that and you can put in an address. Then make sure you click the slider for "destination filter". Then you can choose when you want to get to your destination.
@@technoking4401 tbh all depends on your market and if you’re willing to put in 40 hrs a week. So to answer your question you buying one from somewhere so least it’s yours. These cars last over a million miles. I was able to pay mine off in under a yr. but do what’s best for you

While I don't have seat covers, I did opt for the premium white interior that Tesla offers. I absolutely love it. It's easy to clean and makes the car feel more spacious and premium.
Yeah I wasn't quite a full-time driver. It's interesting to see the experiences of people who do drive more each day. The charging time, while certainly not as quick as filling up a gas tank, is pretty quick and can provide a much needed break during a long day. That being said there is still plenty of improvements to be made with EVs in terms of range and charging, so it'll be interesting to see what the future brings!
Exactly and I’m not fully charged up and I take a ride to San Diego and back at 10:30 PM at night round-trip could be 250 miles if not more is that really worth my time spending charging compared to and I see that takes me 10 minutes to fill up That gets 40 miles to the gallon because I just do highway miles. I’m trying to figure out the benefit of spending a half an hour to 45 minutes charging it’s not about saving money it’s about making money 45 minutes LAX to Irvine 45 miles back to LAX 45 miles 90 miles down on a full charge now I’m at a very low amount when I get back to the airport for my next ride I have to go to charge so that would mean I would miss the window of rush-hour at the airport. I see myself losing money than making money.
It’s like sitting at line at Costco to save $.20 on a gallon of gas so you’re telling me at the gas station I’m a save $.20 or 45 minutes of my life and I can gas up in 10 minutes don’t even care about the two dollars I’m gonna save I’m only really thinking about the $50. I’m going to lose by spending that time charging or gassing up at a Costco. It’s kind of the same thing to me time is money at LAX there’s small windows do you want to sit charging for 45 minutes and then sit at the airport for another 2 to 3 hours? Guess what you’re going to be broke homeless and hungry real quick I just don’t see electric cars progressing when you drive 400 to 500 miles a day I drive about 8000 miles a month I would have to replace the battery in the car every year is not really worth my time and my money for an extra dollar a ride probably not
Can you open a door from outside while the car is in D? I often don’t put the car in park when I’m picking up riders. I arrive, foot on brake and melt them in. It’s much faster. I don’t see an option to allow riders to open the doors while the car is in D
There isnt an option but you can press the lock at the top right corner while u are in D to avoid putting in P to unlock. Beware there is an annoying beeping when a door is open and vehicle is still in drive
OK I do Uber I drive about 8000 miles a month if you do the math how quick would I have to change that battery out is it really worth it compared to a gas powered car that’s the real question do you want to make money yes but how much money are you going to have to spend compared to an ICE
There are so many variables at play here. If we assume the batteries are good for their suggested 300k to 500k mile lifespan, then it would last between 3.5 to 5.5 years if it was to completely die at that point. That being said, there's currently insufficient data to accurately predict the state of the battery at that point. EVs certainly aren't for everyone just yet, but improvements are constantly being made. I am definitely curious to hear what your maintenance schedule and cost is like for your current driving situation. That sure is a lot of driving!
The Uber app is from a mobile phone. Hopefully eventually Tesla will create an app store where an Uber can be available on the main screen, but not yet unfortunately.
While you still can't get the app on the screen, there's an update incoming that supposedly will automatically send the pickup and dropoff location to your Tesla's navigation!
In NJ I did UberX and comfort. In CT I am also able to do Premier. While Ubering consistently for a month and a half I made about $4500, spent about $150 on charging and the financing is $530 a month (USD). During this time I was driving about 20 hours a week for Uber. I believe it makes sense if you have level 2 home charging available and live in a relatively busy area where ride requests are abundant and there are promotions to take advantage of.
@@DriveMiles when you’re saying financing is “530/month USD” dies that mean the car note?? The rental fee thru hertz is 450/wk……how are you paying 500/mth?? (Show you’re work)
When I say "financing" I mean the car loan. My monthly payment on the car is $530.70. I had put a $20,000 down payment to achieve that monthly payment. Not everyone will be able to do that, but it's what made sense for me.
It’s really worth renting it to drive for Uber. It does cost twice as much as buying it…. But if you put pros & cons side by side…. Not worth buying a Tesla for Uber. Of course that main PRO is if you work on a high traffic market.. otherwise, it’s not worth it.
You'd be surprised! As I say in my 40k mile review, I've had no problems keeping the white interior clean! It's also the topic of many compliments! Personally I'm very glad I went with the white interior, but I understand that it's not for everyone!
@@DriveMiles nothing personal, the middle men, it is the fact that if they demand color it is black in and outside, never heard about a doorman or dispatch demanding white interior or exterior, you? Even Uber has kicked out certain cars for not meeting interior criteria for say Uber Black, and it were not the cars in black that were excluded. But your reply shows that white has your personal preference, not looking for a third option. How to increase ROI is the Q. O, and do not get it wrong, we are about to introduce the Y as taxi, your review is certainly helfpful. Thanks
Oh, sure. If your goal is to drive Uber Black, then yes, your car has to have a black interior and exterior. Uber Black is not available in all states, though. It was an option in NJ, but in CT there's only Uber Premier which just requires a "luxury vehicle with a leather interior" which mine has, so I qualify for it.
Did the driver send it to you? Was it helpful? I feel like once you do it once, you won't have a problem again, but I'm interested to see what you think!
I do not. Fortunately my apartment has a few Level 2 chargers, so I always have an 80% charged battery in the morning. That being said, I don't Uber full-time, so if I did, then I would likely have to Supercharge at least once per day.
I’m taking delivery of a Tesla Model Y in the next few weeks & using it for my Limousine Company I really believe the future is with Tesla their the only company that I will invest my hard earned dollars with l no my costs will go way down
When I was doing 20-25 hours a week I was averaging $800 per week. Unfortunately I never did more than that. Its also very dependent on where and when you're driving.
I’m not understanding why anyone would want to do Uber in a car that costs a pretty penny. So, you qualified for the car, just to need extra income by driving for Uber? Is there a memo I’m missing? Tesla monthly car notes aren’t cheap. So, are y’all doing Uber just to pay for the monthly note? I’m so lost.
For me, Uber is not a necessity. I drove for Uber consistently for 1.5 months between graduating and starting my new job. Since starting the job, I make enough to afford the car, but it's always nice to have a little more! If you've driven a Tesla you know they are a blast to drive, so I look for any excuse to drive it, why not get paid for it!

Average 100 miles/day? you drive for 2hrs? i usually drive 4-5hrs, and almost use 200 miles or have to recharge at 250. Guess its my location, sometimes 10-15miles just to pick up
Yeah where I was driving it was quite congested, so I didn't have to go far for a pickup. I would usually do 3 hours in the morning, 3 hours in the afternoon. Usually I would plug into my L2 charger in between that time.
Personally I think the Model Y is the better choice based on room and ease of entry/exit. Not only slightly more roomy for the passengers, but also more room for luggage if you have to do an airport run!
Love your car man. I just picked up a Tesla Model 3 LR. I’m in Berkeley CA and looking to do Uber. Would you say Uber is more lucrative than DoorDash? Also how do you like your Model Y over Model 3?
Congrats on your new Model 3, it's a great car. My Dad has a model 3 and I absolutely love driving it. I prefer the nimbleness of the Model 3, but love the versatility of my Model Y. I'm able to fit my road bike in the trunk without having to remove any wheels which is important. In terms of Door dash, I haven't done it personally, but it is good to have the option with Uber to take passengers as well as Uber Eats deliveries. It all depends on your area and what's more abundant, people needing rides, or people needing food. Driving people typically brought in more money for me.
@@DriveMiles 100% I think Lyft is 25+ in California. Uber seems much more lenient (UberX and Ubereats are 21+) seems like UberX would have more constant demand than DoorDash too
Personally I believe you should get as much range as you can afford. That being said, the RWD Model 3 is a very capable vehicle and can still perform well as an Uber, but you will have to stop more frequently to charge. Biggest benefit is that it doesn't harm the battery to charge it to 100%, unlike the longer range batteries.
If you going to do Uber is better in nyc suburb (westchester and Long Island) if you want to do Lyft go to NJ but Lyft in NJ they let you drive in all NJ, also PA and nyc suburb… the hampton pay 10% more than NYC always go there Friday to Saturday on summer time if you can do premier you will make a 1000 a day with a few drives those days if you only do uberX you can make 500+ easy Every 4 of july i go there 4hrs drive (now i live in PA )
@@DriveMiles Curious as to whether you've had issues with people being disrespectful to your car, i.e. just being careless, spilling things, damaging it, etc.? I'm thinking about doing Uber with my Tesla but also kinda worried about my car getting messed up too. Thanks!
@Justin Willoughby Overall I haven't really had many issues. There are two that stand out to me; a woman had her younger kid with her and he stepped on the seats getting in (it cleaned up no problem); and a group of college kids going out to party and they scuffed the black rubber-like material on the back door. People are generally respectful and sometimes extra careful because they're scared that they might mess something up lol.
@@DriveMiles same. I sometimes type it in if it's acting a little glitchy because I've been driving for hours and hours, or if the address is something the voice command system doesn't recognize, but normally voice commanding it is a only a minor extra step now that I'm used to it
@@simonwaite2381 I totally agree. I'm paying $430/week to rent a 2022 performance model 3, and while I killed it my first 3 days driving last weekend in Los Angeles making over $1,100, they still can and should make this a lot easier and seamless for us Uber drivers being that both companies are profiting immensely off our work.
The Uber app only tracks on-trip mileage which could mean you're missing out on a significant amount of your total business mileage on the way to pick up your passengers!
If you took the $7500 rebate, you agreed that you wouldn’t use the vehicle for business. I assume if you Uber, you can’t take advantage of the tax breaks.
this is a big lie as he might doing ad for uber. i have 2018 model s 90d which cost me 70k excluding tax last year. i tried uber and lyft for 2 month and i quit as it does not work and worth my time to give shitty drive most of the time. drive for lux is imposible as you dont get request. i once online for lux only for 8 hour just and i just got 3 request. i only accept 1 and the other 2 request the pick up is 10 miles plus so i reject as you do not know how long is the ride. majority lux request is for short drive under 5 miles.
Hi! Unfortunately I am not doing any advertising, just sharing my experience. I'm impressed that you actually got lux rides because in all my time doing Uber I've never had an Uber premier request. As some other people have mentioned, I did not do Uber "full time". But even when driving 25 hours a week I was able to bring in over $800. Might not be a lot, but it was enough for me to get by. It really all depends on your location and how busy the area is. In northeast NJ it's fairly densely populated so I had no trouble getting plenty of rides. Now in eastern Connecticut I find it much more difficult to even get UberX rides. It's all relative.
I always enjoy watching people opening the door. You can send them a million messages but they won't read it. I don't want to put a stickers on my door "push and pull here". A lot of dumb people like to force the automatic hatch. You will get 1 star for that.
I agree! Unfortunately there isn't yet, but there have been rumors of Tesla creating their own app store. In that case I would definitely hope and expect to see a native Uber app for the screen. It just makes sense!
While you still can't get the app on the screen, there's an update incoming that supposedly will automatically send the pickup and dropoff location to your Tesla's navigation!
This video was made when masks were a requirement. Of course I no longer have this message, but fortunately never had a cancellation while I did have this message.
of course he is paid by Uber ... who is crazy to drive $50000 minimum used Tesla on uber X rates ... do you imagine when some of these passengers drag their luggage through your $500000 tesla seats ... scratching it for $4 ride ... most prpably you will need to change battery often which is an expensive as the car ... good luck 😂
Hey @Marc Sultan ! Technically Uber drivers are contracted by Uber, so technically, yes, I am paid by Uber for the rides I give. I'm not paid anything other than that for Uber unfortunately. I do, however, have a main job as an engineer. Back to your comment, fortunately all luggage goes in the trunk and people are very respectful of the car. Battery is going strong and should last between 300k-500k miles, so I don't have to deal with that for a little bit. I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment!
@@DriveMiles engineer and driving Uber with your Tesla ... That's weird ... You think lawyers and doctors are doing the same with their Mercedes SEL ... I told you something shady here
This video failed to explain that car payment is for 60-70 months and as a full time Uber/Lyft driver your going to put at least 8k-9k miles on the Tesla every month. This video also fails to explain the Tesla will be out of warranty within the first 12 months of ownership with a full time Uber/Lyft driver. The best and ONLY car a full time Uber/Lyft driver should purchase new is a Prius or Camry. The Honda Accord is a good car as well and would round it my top 3 cars for Uber driving full time. NEVER purchase the Tesla used or new it's DEFINITELY not a car that's practical for Uber/Lyft driving full time. I also have to MENTION with the Tesla you'll be watching your life disappear having to fast charge at least 2-3 times a day or every 3-4 hours. This will definitely turn your 8 hour shift into a 10 hour shift every time and there's no way around it. I'm a full time Uber driver in Orlando, Florida and I've rented the Tesla for 4 months straight. I was making $2,100-$2,500 per week driving my personal gas car driving the full 12 hours per daily shift that Uber allows. In the Tesla I'm making $1,700-$1,850 per week and this is due to the constant 45 minutes per charge and charging at least 2-3 times per 12 hour shift. Whoever believes Tesla is the car to use for ride sharing is an idiot 😔
Thanks for sharing your experiences! Yes, the financing on my vehicle is a 72-month loan. That timeframe might not make sense for someone who is driving for Uber full-time. To minimize the effects of charging downtime, I definitely would suggest that people take advantage of the charging curve and not waste time charging past 80%. In my experience that rarely takes longer than 30 minutes, although of course it's going to be longer than a gas station fill-up. Electric vehicles in general aren't for everyone at the moment and I'm certainly not recommending every single person to go get one. Hopefully this video helps people who do choose to use a Tesla for ride-sharing to make it a little bit easier and more enjoyable. Thanks for watching!
I've never truly done ride-sharing "full time". If that were the case then I'd assume my mileage would be much higher. I would still see EVs as a viable option for that daily mileage, though at least 1 charge would be needed during the day. I believe most of my tips are applicable regardless of the daily mileage driven.
It all depends on your driving style. I drive Uber full time in San Francisco with a Tesla Model Y, I average 110 miles a day, I never take long trips except for the airport trips(which is only 20 mins from downtown SF), I focus on efficiency, I mostly drive short trips that pay over 2 dollars per mile, any long ride (doesn't matter how good it pays,), any ride that crosses the two bridges(Golden Gate and Bay Bridge ), any ride going to the South Bay Area(San Jose),any ride that pays below $2 per mile is a instant decline to me. There are a lot of stops and gos in the city, which is perfect for my car to constantly recharge. I can typically hit $260 in about 9 hours, and still with 30% of battery left. This strategy is only good for Tesla and other EV drivers and drivers that don't need to make a lot of money. Best thing about my strategy is that I don't need to go to a supercharger to recharge during the day, I can leave early work 8 to 9 hours nonstop and be back home and still have 7hours to myself. Putting less mileage on the car also means the car can last longer, but I admit my strategy is not for everyone!
It was never endgame for me. Just a way to make some extra money and drive which I enjoy doing. At the time I published this video, Hertz began offering Teslas to Uber drivers to rent, so I figured I'd share what I had learned to help others who were just getting into it or switching over to electric. I do still Uber from time to time as I find it enjoyable, but I am fortunate to not have to rely on it as I know it's a relentless industry. I wish you the best!
Fortunately for me the car only cost me $55k and was purchased for my personal enjoyment. I think this would be the case for many people with Tesla's, but certainly not everyone! I love driving my car and look for any excuse to drive it, so why not get paid to do it and share the experience! It's a win/win for me. Might not make the most financial sense for other people, so it's definitely something that you need to decide for yourself.
I used to provide a charging cable... I had an in-cabin dash cam.. I caught this little POS kid unplugging it... and stole it. I called UBER.. they said there was nothing they could do! even with video evidence! that sucked.
I have charging cables but I have plugged in the front 6ft long cables is they need they will ask me… i only tell the rider if the trip is from the airport or a long ride
When I am logged into the app, yes I am a "real" Uber driver. However I am not a full-time Uber driver currently. I did Uber full time for 2 months last year, which is when all of these experiences are from.
@@DriveMiles when you said you only do 100 miles that’s not a real Uber driver. I’m interested in a model y, but I needed to know a full time drivers experience. I do 300+ miles a day so I’d be charging almost 2x a day.
I see where you're coming from. While I would love to be able to provide insight for your circumstance, unfortunately I can't. Thanks for watching anyway!

They have updated that issue now 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Note, if you get into one of the Tesla rental programs for Uber, you cannot use the standard IRS tax deduction since you don’t own the vehicle.

I agree 100%
I set a destination for my house one night and I picked up the ride on the way to my house but the drop off was 15 miles east of my valley and I live about a mile north of the freeway. I live in Honolulu, Hawai’i.

What’s your recommendation on white seats while driving for uber? I am confused love the white seats tho.
How do you set up your phone for navigation? Other cars I used a vent phone holder. Do you use the Tesla navigation?
I actually got a phone mount that attaches to the back of the screen and looks quite OEM. It's linked in the description below! I use a combination of Uber navigation and Tesla navigation. I like having it show on the car screen, but Uber navigation will usually give the better approach direction so you're dropping off the passenger on the right side of the street.
While you still can't get the app on the screen, there's an update incoming that supposedly will automatically send the pickup and dropoff location to your Tesla's navigation!
I’m having issues figuring out of the doors are locked or unlocked. I can’t tell if they are having trouble opening the door or the door is locked.
For me, the doors unlock when the car is in park. There have been a few instances where I don't put the car in park and they can't open the door, then I realized I never put it in park.
@@DriveMiles There is a small lock on the top left of the map and that is actually for the doors. This way you dont need to park the car for people to get in.
True! This is another way!
Great tip about the Uber Green...thanks!
Do you put Uber decal sticker ?
Yes I have the sticker in the bottom corner of my windshield!
Question: How uber map (google map) connect to Tesla MY for every trips driver accept?
@ve3thw It's been 3 months. How's Uber treating your Model Y ?
So how much was it for maintenance
Like how much cents per mile
@@DriveMiles
That's what I noticed too getting it in and out with the legs can be problematic in the three.
Get out end do full service. Open the door for the passenger, the look on their face Is priceless
@@aaronbounds1336
Where I live there are just a lot less Teslas in general.
@@DriveMiles yes thx for reply and maybe in 20-30 years will be where there will be a charger in every corner then it will be good 😊 happy driving !
Do you know what model you had? If it wasn't a long range that can get 200+ real world miles then it definitely wouldn't work. Although I could see 2+ hour rides being a potential issue even for long range if you have those back to back and all highway miles.
if this experience was in Los Angeles then uve got to be trippin bro
seems like less a “lie” a more like it just isn’t your situation…driving in Denver there are nothing but superchargers everywhere.
How is seat comfort driving Tesla for 12 hours every day?
I don't have much experience in other seats, but especially the Tesla front seats are very comfortable. I don't have any problem on day-long trips.

Exactly! It's really been hit or miss. Definitely a bug that needs to be fixed.
While you still can't get the app on the screen, there's an update incoming that supposedly will automatically send the pickup and dropoff location to your Tesla's navigation!

its all tsela count as uber black?...... which is better to drive uber regular or black. thanks for the video
@@DriveMiles sorry another question. Am from New York. Is a tesla model base. Is it good to use for Uber. Will it make good
Does it come with a mobile charger? I would like to charge at home and my main job has free charging, but it’s 120v.
When I got mine a little over a year ago it did come with a mobile charger. To my understanding they no longer come with the mobile charger, but you can buy one with the car for just $200. 120v charging is very slow (3-5 mph) but can help in a pinch. Free charging at work is great!
Hi how did u drive for Uber for a day on one charge? N how many hours/mi did u work?
It's worth noting that I've never worked full-time for Uber. At most I was driving 7-8 hours and 100-200 miles per day with a decent break mid-day when I would charge at a level 2 charger. On those longer days I would have to charge at least once.
can you drive Uber black if you use a Tesla y also what is the qualifications for Uber black?
To my understanding, the requirements for Uber black are a car that is black on the outside and black leather (or vegan leather) inside. This might not be true everywhere though.
How much range you getting can you drive for all day on a full charge from 6:00 in the morning to 12:00 at night
I use my model 3 navigation too when I do Uber eats. Are you in Hartford Connecticut. Me too
It's super useful! I'm actually in the New London area!

I started driving a Tesla today, made way less money than my Prius. I wanted to like it, but took it back. The Prius Rocks!
From a cost perspective a Prius definitely wins! How about that new 2023 Prius!?
Depends on your marketing strategy in city.
Unfortunately, the Tesla rentals are not available in my market. Harrisburg, PA Sounds fun.
There is available in Philadelphia
Where can I find destinations in the app?
In the top right corner there's a little magnifying glass search icon. Tap that and you can put in an address. Then make sure you click the slider for "destination filter". Then you can choose when you want to get to your destination.

Charging cost is fairly minimal, I've probably supercharged about $50 worth so far, and of course I still have today and the next 3 days to make money driving until I have to pay again. It is worth it, but again only if you at willing to work very long hours, and take few days off. And of course live in an area where the rides are consistent almost any time of day.
Great video! Which seat covers did you go with and do you recommend them?
While I don't have seat covers, I did opt for the premium white interior that Tesla offers. I absolutely love it. It's easy to clean and makes the car feel more spacious and premium.
Is the Tesla Uber Black Certified
To my understanding, as long as it's black on the inside and outside, it qualifies.
Does your Tesla has cam recording of the cabin while you drive?
It does not. Not yet at least! I can see this becoming an option in the future.
@@DriveMiles getting this MODEL Y into Uber black is very difficult? How much will it be a commercial insurance?
Thank you for saying how many miles you drive (100) I was driving 200-300 and charging would cut into my driving time.
Hi I am drive as uber with tesla but why small money low.
Hallo, Is the Uber app from the car's own screen or from a mobile phone?

car note & charging vs uber profit. Is an electric vehicle worth it? You do Uber X and comfort?
Of course that main PRO is if you work on a high traffic market.. otherwise, it’s not worth it.
perhaps a black interior as 1st tip?
You'd be surprised! As I say in my 40k mile review, I've had no problems keeping the white interior clean! It's also the topic of many compliments! Personally I'm very glad I went with the white interior, but I understand that it's not for everyone!
@@DriveMiles it is not about keeping it clean perhaps?
If it's not about keeping it clean, then it all comes down to personal preference!

How much weekly you make ? Like the average?
Hello! Thank you for your video! I’m thinking about getting a Tesla to do Uber, is the model three or the model Y better for Uber your thoughts?
Personally I think the Model Y is the better choice based on room and ease of entry/exit. Not only slightly more roomy for the passengers, but also more room for luggage if you have to do an airport run!
Are you restricted to only driving on the Uber platform?
Unfortunately in the areas I've driven (NJ & CT), Lyft requires it's drivers to be at least 25. I have not explored any other options.

Love your car man. I just picked up a Tesla Model 3 LR. I’m in Berkeley CA and looking to do Uber.

Uber seems much more lenient (UberX and Ubereats are 21+) seems like UberX would have more constant demand than DoorDash too
Do you recommend the 260 mile range Tesla for driving Uber ?
Personally I believe you should get as much range as you can afford. That being said, the RWD Model 3 is a very capable vehicle and can still perform well as an Uber, but you will have to stop more frequently to charge. Biggest benefit is that it doesn't harm the battery to charge it to 100%, unlike the longer range batteries.

100 miles?????????? I've been doing ride sharing for 10 years so far and my average is 200 miles.
Tip and tricks to rideshare driving... Jump... off a ... .... You've won the game.... because you no longer around to do this BS no more...LOL
I’m not investing nearly 90k for Tesla to drive for Uber, picking up nasty people dogs and cats period, get old ass Toyota Camry for uber
That is lazy as shit of Uber to not charge them ! You should have filed a police report and had him charged to teach his ass a lesson...
@@jminaya90 good strategy.
@@LJ-jq8og yeah.. I thought of it.. but it would be a hassle.. not worth it for a $10 cable. I just let it go. He’ll get his.
@@marcostudd Glad you told us. Makes me not want to do it now anyway...
Oh you’re not a real Uber driver.
