    Very interesting. I would like to see a reprisal of packet for use other than APRS.

    Excellent tutorial, thank you very much for this! Unfortunately, the symlink for the PTT step doesn't seem to function as expected anymore, or I'm doing something wrong. But this was very helpful!

    Hi, is it possible to have better looking maps with more detail inside that software? (without having to go to a aprs.fi)

    instead of using udev rules you can use the /dev/serial/by-id/my_usb_device symlink that is automatically created when you plug in a device.

    The thing that would be best sent over a USB interface, the audio, is sent over audio jacks... the thing best sent over an audio jack, a simple switch... is sent over USB.
    ... what IS this madness? LOL

    Excellent level of detail and explanation! I'm encouraged to try it. I'm interested in a messaging solution for my pickup truck to use with special events. There are a couple of bicycle club events a year up in West Virginia where I volunteer as a SAG, and while we use voice repeaters for dispatching help to riders needing it, we've started to incorporate APRS, really with an eye toward leveraging the messaging capabilities to transfer information and status to tracking software in the command center behind the scenes. This helps keep the voice repeaters a little more free for the tactical communication, and prevents sharing riders' personal information (i.e. phone numbers, etc.) over the repeaters. The fancy Kenwood and Yaesu rigs with APRS built in are nice, but aren't inexpensive, nor are they well-suited for easily and quickly leveraging messaging without attaching them as KISS TNCs to computing equipment running Xastir, Yaac, or anything else. Direwolf and Xastir certainly seem like a nice solution, and would probably support our needs and wants without demanding high-end hardware, keeping the cost down to equip many mobile and portable units supporting an event. Thanks again for your detailed walk-through on how to get these going on Linux!

    Have you seen a data mode cable for a baofeng ht? I have successully installed and run direwolf, yastir and yaac on a netbook running ubuntu 16.04 LTE. But I can only receive data using a cable from the speaker/headset output of the ht to the mic input on the netbook. I downloaded the osm map tiles to my netbook and thought this would be a pretty nifty, compact, portable inexpensive multifucntional solution for field days or emergency situations. I saw a youtube video on constructing a cable, but I am suspicious of how it might work. I enjoyed watching your videos. I could have saved myself some headaches had I watched them before I set up my aprs app. Thanks! David DM3BC

    • @konradritter7543
      @konradritter7543 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well for the sake of all the others I will switch back to english. The easiest but most expensive way to solve your problem is to invest in a ready made solution. This cable displayed in this video could be available for the Kenwood standard (which is the same as the Baofeng, afaik), if not, there is one universal cable to wich you only have to solder a plug for your HT. There is other small interfaces like the Wolphilink. So much about capitalism ;)
      If you want to build something yourself, you can go the really cheap way and just use a few resistors, capacitators and audiotransmitters. If you do this, you will have to use the VOX of your HT. If you are new to the field in gerneral and can read german, I can give you a link to my blog, where I tried to write an overview article for Digimodes. (I would like to share the like via pm, so noone can say I am only using this platform for advertisement :) )
      By the way, in propper HamSpirit, I would of course be willing to build something for you, in case you are unwilling or unable to do so.
      Anyways, I would like to hear from you and help you out with any further questions.
