wow i never seen a banjo like this, i guess is custom made or something or are there a type of banjos that comes with this fifth string as a base note?
Jeff Menzies of Kingston, Jamaica built a limited number of this particular model. The fifth string is a high drone, as with other 5-strings. The tuning is relatively low (Double “G.”)
Not necessarily by design. This tune is customarily played in “Double-D (a-D-A-D-E)” tuning. I prefer tuning this instrument in lower registers, for both playability and sonority. In this case, it’s in “Double-G..”
Beautiful. Had me spinning a lyrical yarn in my own head even if I am the only one who will ever appreciate it.
Love that fretless sound-great playing
Love the smile at the end.
Pretty damn good. I've never seen a fretless banjo before
The Indian sarod is essentially a fretless banjo! With a lot more resonating strings/chambers
That ain't easy on the fretless.... sounds so lovely
Enjoying
Thanks Steve

Wow excellent tune! When did you start learning?
I started playing guitar when I was about 12. I’ve been playing Clawhammer banjo for not quite 7 years.
Yuhhh
Good picking
You playing a banjo made by Bob Thornburg?
This one was built by Jeff Menzies.
Is that a baritone banjo?
Not necessarily by design. This tune is customarily played in “Double-D (a-D-A-D-E)” tuning. I prefer tuning this instrument in lower registers, for both playability and sonority. In this case, it’s in “Double-G..”
