I had the honor and pleasure to study this quartet with Mr Dubinski at IU School of Music back in the nineties. What a great musician he was. I still recall rehearsals under his supervision.
THANK YOU so very much for sharing this. It literally brought tears to me. Such memories. I got to study with Shebalin on and off from 1991-93 in Paris during his visits. He was the best! Thx again.
Borodin was a Doctor who turn turned to research organic chemistry successfully yet had this musical creativity he was a member of the mighty handful who eschewed formal music education taking as their inspiration Russian folk songs and tales. Rimsky -Korsakov left an autobiography My Musical Life describing this and much more . BTW he was a liberal in his thinking championed women in medicine. He often went to conferences on the latest developments in this field. Sometimes these were in Paris and he would look up Liszt and play over his compositions one such being In the Steppes Of Central Asia . PS forgot that he was posthumously awarded a TONY for his contributions to the musical Kismet . Forrest and wright took his music added lyrics and fully credited Borodin for the music.
i performed this my junior year of high school with a wonderful group of my classmates. Thanks to them for a wonderful experience performing one of the most staggeringly beautiful pieces of music ever written (in my opinion)
No better versions available than the old Borodin quartet! There is a recording of Kopelman quartet (Kopelman being the ex 1st violin of Borodin q as well) in TH-cam, that's excellent too. Other versions are simply not to listen after these performances, they are inferior. Valentin Berlinsky, my favorite!
Dubinsky was an amazing teacher. I was lucky to have a few chamber music coachings with him at Indiana University in the early 90's. The best string crossings in the business. Nocturne shows this.
I love your playing! Thank you for your hard work and your dedication to your love. Music heals, no? Again, you sooo interpret Borodin, Thanks. Charlie H,
Simply by a slight moment of forgetfulness you bring a heap of unnecessary criticisms from a group of smartipants. Thanks for reminding us of Borodin's accreditation.
Dubinsky or Kopelman? Both fantastic violinists, similar sound. Dubinsky does capture Borodin very well here. As great as they were led by Kopelman, I liked their sound even better with Dubinsky.
I love Dubinski playing But my heart goes to Kopelman You can here with Dubinski that they are the same generation, all of them in the top form When Kopelman came , you definitely can hear that some of older players started to lose their form

Berlinsky's cello sound and espressivity. One of the best ever.
So fortunate to see them play in St Georges Bristol back in the 1980s and 90s..... always brought tears to my eyes.
❤
In spite of the sound quality, the true spirit of Borodin rises in here!
Absolutely the best simply for the balance & virtuosity of each player captured by the sensitive/knowledgeable camera shots for once?

Exquisite. Never heard it played any better.
Thank you so much. Magnificent. Authoritative. Overflowing with heart.

No one will ever play this music like they did
Thank you SO much for posting this gem of a video. It is truly some of the greatest playing out there.
tomatojuice12 I agree!!
I love your playing! Thank you for your hard work and your dedication to your love. Music heals, no? Again, you sooo interpret Borodin, Thanks. Charlie H,
He was a top notch Soviet Scientist, who just happened to have a hobby of writing music. Somehow he set an excellent example for us to follow.
You know , Mr. Matta. Borodin died in 1887. Soviet's haven't even been invented by then. Please do your home work before writing nonsense
@@jorndrogi576 so much for Lenin and Stalin.
I agree wholeheartedly with this.

Najładniejszy kwartet jaki ktoś napisał. Wykonanie też wspaniałe!!!
Maravilla de pieza. Y una dulcisisima interpretación! Tan sensible.
Very nice string quartet music! 👍
Hello,
Thank you very much for this BEAU-TI-FUL music !
Best wishes !
Jean-Charles Bourquin, in France
I heard them play this (defining) piece in the 1980s.
With Kopelman!
Mr. Dubinsky emigrated USSR in 1976.
Stunning.
Is this love?

Grazie!!!

Beautiful✨
Molto emozionante.

This playing is the so masterful! I do feel the tempo for the first movement was a bit rushed though, but that's my opinion.
There's a sense of urgency they all play with in this however....Uncanny to watch

R. Dubinsky ended up teaching at Indiana University. He travelled extensively with the Borodin Trio
Who is his the most famous student ?

I thnk the horrible sound is because of the age of the recording and the transfer as no one could make these sounds in the flesh.
