A very usefull video. I have bought a Step 8 and a TipTop One and they came yesterday. I want to have voices in my pieces and now I have it. The Step 8 controls the One (which ist a sample player) that plays voice samples. Thank You for this great Ideas in your video!
Im looking into using a turing machine with the pulses expander. I want to use the gates from pulses mostly for drums. Then I want to keep the beats interesting and unique and thought the step 8 could make that happen. If you compare this to Muxlicer and MI Stages, do you think one of those 3 would be easier to setup and use live for unique beats? Initially, I was going to just use a batumi in phase mode but not sure it would be that good or easy to use live.

Kinda feels like Step 8 behaves how one would expect Voltage Block to behave. But, of course, Voltage Block actually is very different. Step 8 is far more straightforward and intuitive. But aside from its lack of gate outputs, Voltage Block is more powerful. You just have to be comfortable with not being able to visualize the sequences after you enter them. Which is a common and critical flaw in many Malekko modules. Step 8 appears to be more playable and fun.
Thanks! I use the Squarp Rample, which can rotate or randomly select samples in a bank. So I used a few similar slightly different hat samples there. Variation always sounds great :)
It's a mild vexation to me that the phrase "analog shift register" is hardly ever used except for Turing machine type applications, because a proper shift register is super useful for creating related melodies.

More is more. But it would also made it more big and expansive of course! The sliders are just attenuators, so if you want output level control you can patch a VCA after any or each of the analog outputs to achieve the same. This is the right modular approach I think :)
@@MonotrailTechTalk looking at the face plate, another row could have been added and it would have cost him less to add cv control over level than it would cost someone like me to purchase 8 VCA’s. So in my opinion it would be much more convenient for the level control to be included. But it is what it is and it’s a nice module non the less!

I'd say they very different indeed! VB is the better sequencer, but as this video shows, step 8 is designed to do a million other things :)
