I think I know what’s happening at the ninth death at 10:37. Mario is stepping on dark matter which is a form of anti matter, (I think?) when normal matter and anti matter touch they fuse together and cancel each other out causing both to permanently disappear, and that just happened to Mario. He was basically deleted. That is Dark.
One of my earliest memories of mario is being 8 with our first Mario game, galaxy, and getting shocked to death and seeing his skeleton. ‘‘Twas traumatic. And I also remember being terrified of dark matter.

Know what’s funny, as a kid I was always afraid of the purple sludge stuff in this game. See, I didn’t realise that the hand Mario sticks out of the goop STILL HAS HIS GLOVE ON IT. So because the glove is WHITE, I thought it was Mario’s hand, but a skeleton hand. So uh like ten year old me thought that purple sludge was some like flesh-melting acid stuff and that freaked me out a lot. To this day it still makes me a little nervous even though I know now he just has his gloves on.
I feel ya on the childhood fear never leaving lol, I'm still terrified of wallmasters in Ocarina of Time even though I know where they all are which makes them super easy to kill
I feel like mario slamming on the floor when those blue enemies stick to him might've been on accident, and even the developers just never expected players to die to them
The blue blobs latch on his brain slowly taking control out of Mario and taking his soul little by little. His mind and soul disappears causing his body to have no special properties and he becomes just an object and dies and then the blue blob uses his mouth to get rid of any trace of him killing Mario. Rated E for everyone.
Def love Futurama! Watched it a lot when I was a teenager. It's not as funny as Futurama, but I also enjoyed Matt Groening's newer show Disinchantment on Netflix.

I honestly think it’s more disturbing if and when it happens when you’re on your last life. Because it’s not just a “too bad” before it cuts away on Bowser’s head. The music and sound effects mostly stop, you hear Mario let out that sound of him dying, and they let it linger for like a second longer before the “Game over” comes. I dunno. It’s creepier that way.
I feel like Mario's skeleton reveal as a costume in Odyssey was a big deal when it came out, but look at that: it's been around since Galaxy apparently.

I think what makes slowly sinking in quick sand worse is if you really mess with the controls Mario will struggle equally hard in a vain attempt to escape! But just like real quicksand, the more you struggle, the worse it gets. The fact that you still have control over Mario as he sinks into oblivion just makes it that much worse.
On the skeleton theres a way to see it when you die I remember on Mario galaxy 1 in the treat galaxy what ever it’s name was you can time it so you shock yourself and fall at the same time and then you see a skeleton for a few seconds
If I remember this correctly, as you face away from a black hole and fall in, the entire universe would age faster and faster from your perspective. Mario would essential see the entirety of his world and everything he loved age and die in mere moments, just before he's fully in the event horizon.

So the way I see the motion controle levels is that if they were controlled by the joystick like Shane and Chad said in that Normal Boots tier list, it would be too easy. They completely contradicted themselves because they said it was too easy but asked for the actually harder levels to be easier. I just didn't think that their reasoning for the game not being good had no merit. Like how is being easy a con to a game? It makes the experience more relaxing. Also, I think Mario sounds the most enthusiastic in both of the Galaxy games. Like in Oddessy, it didn't sound like Charles Martinet really cared. But in Galaxy, he sounds ready.

I know I'm a year late but I love explaining scientific stuff so heres my take on the dark matter death: Dark matter, as a concept, is like anti-matter - if you were to theoretically come into contact with the dark matter that is the opposite to your composite matter, annihilation would occur, basically meaning your matter and the dark matter would cancel each other out, causing your cells and molecules to be ripped apart, at a much higher intensity than if you were to undergo genetic mutation from strong forms of electromagnetic radiation. What happens to Mario is that this process happens so quickly, due to the relatively large abundance of said dark matter, and you can see that he dematerialises, with some of his matter fortunate enough not to get caught up in the annihilation process getting flung away into the surrounding atmosphere. The rest of him just dissolves into nothingness. Mario probably instantaneously dies upon making contact so he wouldn't be able to scream in pain, as the chain reaction of matter upon antimatter is so quick his vital organs are more than likely destroyed. Tl;dr: Funny italian plumber has his atoms ripped apart, either becoming destroyed or flying away if said atoms are lucky
