    Firstly, the recording kinda glitched at 16:20 and it went to super low fps for like 30seconds, sorry about that!     I wish there were raids in Terra Tech like, multiple big techs would come together to attack your base or something like that because at the moment it is very easy to defend your base and I think it would be cool to actually have a reason to build solid defenses for your base

    I was thinking would it be possible to create a "Drop Bar Lock" with a hinge on the back? that way you wouldn't need to be adding/taking away blocks every time...

      dragon lord robocraft was ruined when they made everything free, without limits to tiers, and they were no longer needed the dust (currency) for anything special.
      Back in the glory days you had to level up and spend levels to unlock blocks (just like now), but you were unlocking it in a way that it would give you a sample, and later you’d have to craft more. Higher level stuff needed more currency to create, and the maps were fun and semi-realistic to the future

    Lath, add stoppers to the inside hinges and have the doors open outward- no need for fixed anchors (although adding them on the inside of the fort doors would act as a deadlock), stronger against ramming if the enemy has a melee tech. Also, if it's going to get weapons, make them super short range at the bottom skirt (maybe fill in the gap at the centre bottom with shotguns- if it's opening out, it doesn't need the gap, and it gives a close-quarters "get lost" to anyone trying to melee their way in).
    Also, if you need/want to get a tech out fast for a sally, if they open outwards you can, in extremis, push the doors open from inside

    Love the terratech vids, u deffo should do more of them.
    Unfortunately I would do this same mechanic on ps4 but we have a block limit and less parts to use in our entire world, 5000 for campaign and 7000 for creative

    Simple but very effective looking.🙂 But these door builds got me thinking if one could use hover pads and anti-grav for a drawbridge (that hovers could float over while dropped)... Or a portcullis that could be slid up with a tweak of a hover/AG controller block... Or shooting the door with the AG guns! Heh, that'd be fun!

    Put the fixed anchor more towards the hinge then test if placed right you should be able to close and open with out removing the anchors

    If you add blocks in the middle of the back of the doors they would hit each other preventing the door from opening outwards so you would only need a perpetual motion thing from better future on at least one half door to keep them permanently closed

    I made a lock for a door but it needs the trailer hooks - use trailer hooks and rings with a flipping tech that has a control for hovers. Turn off the hovers, if falls on to the hook, locking the doors. Activate the hovers, it lifts above the hook and can be opened

    19:00 There could be one reason to use blocks on the back side instead of ground anchors, the anchors are (relatively) much easier to shoot off, to shoot off the blocks on the back side you first have to carve yourself through the door (through the "The BIG ones"-blocks) on the specific right place (and, eg: missiles, will target the cab, not the correct place in the door).
    You can also/instead add a fixed anchor separately on the inside, so it blocks the doors from turning inwards, so however much the enemy pushes, it can't get in (maybe it can get in if it learns how to pull somehow).

    you can put anchors in front of the doors on the outside, and then use linear motion to push the gates towards the anchor, locking the door.

    Fun fact, you can use BF air anchor things on ground techs and it lets you move while anchored, but only in the air anchor's radius. I think that would be a pretty cool thing.

    Awesome door and I like the sound of another cargo plane, but I feel that adding one half of the ornamental circles to each door toward the center as well would add towards the sense of unity, if that makes sense. Make two swingy doors look like they are definitively part of the same structure.

    Also, teeny techs will drive under your doors and steal your stuff.

    My preferred Tech layout/style/thingy is basically stuff on the inside, lots of GeoCorp 'The Big One's around the base and outsides, batteries and fuel tanks inside. BUT. Then a layer of Hawkeye 1 and 2 blocks, sometimes the newer 2x2 and 3x2 blocks, but the main reason for this layer, other than additional armour, is it is simple to put in HE shield and repair bubbles. On the outside I like a layer, and it is a chore to add this, of Better Future smooth blocks using the smooth ones with hardpoints where needed for weapons placement. I love the smooth outer look, and the fact that you can make the whole outer surface a beautiful BLACK. Better black than HE black, but only a little better.

    You could always use interlocking geo bumpers for the door lock, also you can spawn tech in the walls if you put the camera in the wall for like battery banks and whatnot so that if you do the powerplant it can look like its powering the Colosseum itself or just for hidden power

    Much better idea to keep the doors closed. Just place a block that prevents it from opening inwards. That way you can only open it from the inside and it'll stay still if you ram it from the outside. You can even ram your way out and close them afterwards.

    i learned how to make door from this video lol ^^ im very thankful for that.. i havent perfected the shape of door, but i have solved the problem regarding the lock mechanism using some simple item, so i dont have to open the door by switching tech anymore, i can just go in and it will shut it self^^.. very thankful for this tutorial ^^

    if you are worried about techs pushing the doors open, just put blocks so it can't move inward and only open the doors outward

    To defend the gates you can just build an overhang on top with weapons pointed down and out (since enemies tend to charge) and it will literally rain death from above.

    Hey, try the better future anchor at the seam of the doors. That way you can push your way in/out snd the doors will snap back into place.

    Automatic door:
    -put on a AI on the door facing outside
    -make the door thicker towards the outside
    -that way it cannot open out, only in, because the thicker outer side will be stuck on the doorframe
    -the doors will auto open and close because of the guard AIs
    -when an enemy comes, they will try to face outward, automatically closing the door
    -I accept no responsibility for when enemies chase you, and you will be stuck outside

    What you could have done, is have it normally sit open, but with the front facing the wall, so in order to attack the enemy they would have to close

    I understand that the blocks at the bottom middle need to be removed so the door can open but doesn’t that gap allow cabs to go under it? Cause then they can just spawn their tech in the inside

      Techs have to be spawned a certain distance away from an enemy tech, thankfully this rule applies to the AI spawning in techs as it does when you try and spawn in techs yourself in game. Small techs are not likely to survive the defences which are going in next from the outside, and even less so any defence on the inside. ^^

    Just my 2 cents would be design the door to always open outwards. You would then be able to place stuff on the back to always keep enemy techs from pushing in. Plus you would not have to worry about keeping the inside directly behind the gates clear of your own builds and tech. It would have the one downside of always needing to open outwards, but that doesn't seem like it would be a big demerit to me.

    Set up the door to only open outward, then you can get rid of the notch and you do not need to worry about locking them

    Put a large overlapping plate on the front,
    That way, If you are rammed from the outside, The plate catches on the other door. And stops it opening,
    But, You can still open it from the inside

    If you put stoppers behind the doors you can open them towards outside and then other techs can't ram it open, because it opens outwards.

    (I am of course fashionably late to watch the video) for the door's industrial look and ram-stopping mechanism, give the door some interlocking teeth on the front (like a big zipper :P) this should help in both regards, and should look very nice. EDIT: kind of like the alignment mechanism at 15:00, but interlocking from both doors and not just the left.

    Lath, you could just have one door overlay one block in front and the other overlaps one the opposite side. the doors have to be opened opposite ways and would stay shut if pushed. EDIT oh you've figured it out what a brilliant man.

    In history most doors actually open outwards for maximum strength. They have inner locks that make ramming them almost impossible

    LOathrax, since you have an in over at Payload Studios, perhaps you can recommend to them that they work on adding motion senors for projects such as this and they could also be used to activate rear-firing weapons, etc

    I would have gone with a hover door.
    Better future anchors on the bottom, then manually control, use the linear motion engines to raise the door, travel through, then close again.

    Maybe make a longer connector between the doors? I think if they are longer you can open only one door and it should push the other more for a more seamless for opening experience?

    Just a humble suggestion, but if you put a fixed anchor in front of each door but off to the side, maybe to put independent turrets on to defend the gates or not, but wouldnt that make it so the doors could only swing outward to a certain point and therefore make it easier to close them in the exact same spot every time? Just an idea

Maybe if you made it float up above the base for better solar pannel efficiency, then had a subsection underneath for the dynamo generators, it could look pretty cool to have that and maybe floating power relays to connect the power to the rest of the base, and maybe if its possible to put something on the spires to look like electricity is flowing into them? I dunno, entirely up to you, but i really like the idea

    Just make it were it only opens outwards with a bar on the top, that way enemies can not push it in and you won't have to work as hard to make them even

    I would think it better to open outward and make it impossible to open inward. That way there is no chance for enemy techs to push it open.
    As well, have AI on it set to follow so when they try to follow you it opens and closes automatically.

    use the hover glitch to make the gates always close and use the strength of your tech to open it if thats still a thing

    Or, you could make a lifting door. 1 solid sheet of blocks, rails on 2 sides, loads of propeller type motors and linear motion machines. 1 less tech to control and no stupid gaps.

    I think some sonic repulsers could’ve added more defensibility towards techs ramming into it, and better future one-way shields would add to the aesthetic

    Here is a question. Why not use ion thrusters (or something low powered) with a improved stopper setup. So that you can push it open and it closes behind you?

    1. Ruin bases (bases in ruin areas)
    2. Attack bases ( get close then suffer through bombsq

    So maybe this wouldn't work the way I think, but wouldn't it be cool to use turret ai anchors facing forward so that the doors would automatically close when enemies were in front of the base?

    Anyone else see the doors as a pair of faces? The solar panels being eyes, the yellow bits above them being eyebrows, and the hawkeye armor plating being teeth or a mouth? Just thought I'd share my findings.
