    Thanks a lot Bill, you love your music, and that comes across, the Dig is truly a wonderful delay.

    Thanks, Bill! I have a Volante, but it's a little more complicated than I need it to be. I'm thinking of getting the El Capistan, and the DIG, to replace it.

    Great instructional vid bill...nice drone reminds me of the drone bagpipes here in scotland...when you are walking in a great landscape, as a background to your music, it is amazing what will come forth each moment...

    This is pretty awesome. It took me a bit to figure out, as I didn't realize I had to set up the bypass button in buffered mode. (Otherwise, when I tapped the switch, the drone stopped). The other handy thing I figured out is using the volume knob on the guitar to simulate a volume pedal.

      @@chordsoforion thanks for the video. Do you think the TC infinite sampler gets the same sounding pure drone you use at the beginning by using the bypass on the Strymon?
      The Strymon sound beefier and lower but is that just because you use a lower note for the demo than what you did on the TC ?
      I play flute and want to create a backing drone that is an infinite chord. That seems to necessitate me to use the TC and build it by layer.
      I would also like to have that chord an octave lower sometimes. I was thinking I could use a pitch shifter set down an octave and build this chord that way. Or the pitch could be shifted after that chord is created by having the pitch shifter after the sustainer. What do you recommend before or after? I was think if it's after it would be good so that later the whole chord could be shifted at a later point for variation, like a C up to F and the C drone becomes an F drone.
      I Listen to these freeze effects and they sound kind of thin for my purposes but I wonder if that is just that people often play a chord in the middle range of the guitar to demo it (?)
      not a lower chord. I'm looking for a thicker sound. Maybe the flute since it's already a sustain instrument would produce something thicker, more like a harmonium drone resulting.
      Thus since the flute is already a sustained tone instrument a chord could also be built up with a looper and how would that compare also?

    I can get some great drones and experimental sounds out of my EHX Superego Plus. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a drone machine, an Attack/Decay pedal, a synth pedal, and multi effects all in one pedal.

    Amazing vid, again !!!
    Bill, did you roll back your tone knob to avoid too much trebbly feedback while using the ebow ?
    Cheers

    I like your use of bypass mode, Bill. It is very nice to have delay tails trailing away while switching to another part. I’m still trying to decide what modern delay pedal would be a good fit for me. A must have for me is assigning an expression pedal to delay feedback and delay level like I have done for many years using the Yamaha SPX-900. Does the TIMELINE have a bypass mode like the DIG?

  • @clayroundtree

    It would be great to have a list of delays that are capable of what Bill does with the Strymon Dig!

    • @mooseyard
      @mooseyard 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, it needs to be a digital delay (not emulating analog/tape) so the repeats aren’t altered, and you need to be able to set the feedback to exactly 100%. I BT a lot of delays can do this. My Flashback II can, and so can various delays in Zoom multi-effect boxes. Or, you know, you could get a looper, which is designed to do exactly this. Even the cheapest ones will let you record and overdub a 5-second loop. It’s nothing magic.

    My opinion is that the TC Triple Delay it's still the best "drone machine" around, and it's way less expansive than any Strymons.

    Very clear explanation and how to video. Well done!
    You leave me with one question only: What is the routing of the second delay (El Capistan)? Is it in parallel with the Dig (i guess not, since you would still hear the original tone through the DIG), is it in series and in front of the DIG, or is it in series and following the DIG. My guess would be the last option, but i really don't know.

    • @chordsoforion
      @chordsoforion  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since (in this case), the delays are being used independently, it does not matter as to the order. I just put the El Cap in front of the DIG.

    Hi Bill....any ideas how I could do this and make a drone with a boss dd200? Mine is set up for trails but can't figure out how to keep the drone going with infinite repeats (it just seems to fade out too quickly for a drone effect)

  • @myprivatelibrary
    @myprivatelibrary 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Forgive my ignorance. Would this be similar to the main purpose of a freeze?

  • @mooseyard
    @mooseyard 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bill, with all respect (i love your music & videos), isn’t this just turning your expensive delay into a very basic looper? You could do exactly this with some $30 off-brand loop pedal. (And it would still sound awesome because you’re you.)

    • @chordsoforion
      @chordsoforion  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To me, the effect is quite different than a looper. But sure, this would not be a good reason to go out and buy some expensive delay pedal. But if you already have one, why not explore all the things it can do?

  • @adamcourtinot5520

    Unfortunately, my DIG doesnt do that, the repeats stop quite fast, in like 1 minute, despite having the repeat knob all the way up.
    Any idea why it doesnt work ? Thanks

      @chordsoforion  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have the 12-bit delay type selected? The other 2 don't have the same decay characteristics.
