    (1) Was the Captain sitting in the Right-hand seat because he was training a another Captain sitting in the Left-hand seat (the normal seating position for the aircraft commander)?
    (2) I noticed that the Gatwick runway ATC referred to you by your old name, 'the landing Bombardier', which is probably clearer than 'the landing A220' (7:41).

    One of the things about the Airbus fleet that always has me wondering is the use of the sidestick as opposed to the more traditional yoke. When sat in the captain position, does the stick being in the left hand take much getting used to? As an avid flight simmer, using a yoke for flying heavy metal and a stick for fast jet, the stick position feels more "natural" in the right hand.

    • @tomstravels520
      @tomstravels520 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Robert Young when you fly with the yoke as a captain during approach and landing your left hand is on the yoke and right hand on the throttles so it’s not too different anyway

    • @DeltaBravoTango
      @DeltaBravoTango 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does take adjusting too but it is manageable.

    • @conorcorrigan765
      @conorcorrigan765 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you learn to fly a real plane like a Cessna, you'll learn to manipulate the yoke solely with the left hand, as the right hand has to stay on the throttle, especially during takeoff and landing. I'm a flight simmer as well and I used to fly with my right hand and use the left hand for throttles like you but I started taking flight lessons and eventually got used to flying with the left hand (now when I flight sim I arrange my control setup backwards so the stick is on the left and throttles are on the right just because it's what I'm used to now).

    • @manifestgtr
      @manifestgtr ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s how basically every pilot flies…left hand on the yoke, right hand on the throttle, etc…assuming you’re in the left seat. Of all the things that take getting used to in aviation (steep turns being the biggest one for me) using the left hand on the yoke/stick is the least of it, really.

      chicken eater 4 stripes doesn't necessarily mean captain.
      You could have two captains flying and one acting as FO. Or a senior FO with 4 stripes.
      It highly depends on the company

    • @zeFizZ

    Do you set the autopilot on approach when setting up the aircraft? Like set the certain speed, the HDG, the VS and the altitude? And let the plane descend and turn by itself?

    • @ulafs7015
      @ulafs7015 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      not really, you set the AP (auto pilot) on take off when you are about 500 ft above the ground. And the AP has multiple modes that you can change during the flight, for example, APP button, which catches the required ILS or RNP approach (gives you the track you need to follow :)) You'd be surprised how much you can program on what you want this airplane to do.

      The audible "minimums" call is manually entered into the flight computer, taken from the applicable approach chart. It is the minimum altitude allowed for the particular approach you're flying...if you do not see the runway ( or other visual cues ) at that altitude, you must immediately discontinue the approach.

      They are backwards, arent they? It’s super easy to switch the mic to the right side if you’re in the right seat, but it looks like he just flipped the whole headset backwards… which wouldnt fit on your ears anymore. I’m confused lol

    The audio on the GPWS callout is shamefully bad. I can record better quality audio sample on my phone.

      On the real flight deck, the callouts are quite clear.
