  • mnopera.org - Take a trip with us back to the Golden Age of Hollywood for this uproarious, screwball comedy-perfect for seasoned operagoers and newcomers alike. It’s the 1950s and the miserly aristocrat Don Pasquale is a silent movie star grappling with the problems and possibilities of the modern technicolor world. In the end, the old curmudgeon learns his lesson and love rules the day. You’ll be delighted by this fresh, fun, and lively production. Be sure to keep your autograph books handy. You just might see a few of your favorite stars of the silver screen like John Wayne, Elvis Presley, and Lucille Ball. October 7 - 15 at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts.
Preliminary run time of 2 hours and 33 minutes, including one intermission.
Sung in Italian with English translations projected above the stage.

Why in America they transform classical opera in a squalid pseudo-Broadway show? This is pathetic.. Poor Donizzetti!

Why not ? The music and the style of singing is still the same.

@@Kiarinadia I tell you why. Because there are things that need to be respected for what they are.
Because if you take an opera out of its contest, it is not an opera anymore and you don't get the sense of it.
This is not JUST music, this is the expression of a culture, of a specific time, of a specific taste that does not correspond to the modern times. Not everything need to become contemporary to be appreciated. Maybe people like you should make an intellectual effort to really understand what this is and appreciate it in its true essence.
We live in a world where everything needs to be easy to be digestible. It would be so much better, however, if people could instead spend some time in understanding the true meaning of things without being superficial.

@@marcosimone82 this is an Opera-bouffe, what ever the context and the century, the music and the laughable contexte stay the same. Now if it is not well sing this is another kid of problem :-) I am a musician and a very demanding one so I don't need effort to respect.
