Hi Gail, thank you- you are so welcome 🙏 🌹Yes, isn’t great that you can make your own slippers at an affordable price. And as an extra bonus family and friends like homemade gifts - made with love in each stitch 💝 😊🥰
This was so helpful Inge! I could not understand what the pattern was telling me to do but your video made it easy to understand. Thank you for sharing this!
If you are decreasing to your initial count of 76 you need to decrease 8 times. But you said we achieve the heel decreases by decreasing in 3 rounds and 3 plain stockinrtte rounds in between. This is confusing to me...on each round you decrease 4 times right? You have to put a stitch marker on both sides... every 21 stitches. I have knitted up to this point and can’t move forward. Would appreciate the help. Thx
Inge, thank you so much for doing this. I watched it when you posted a while ago and am back again as I hope to make several pairs of these (once all my Tree Trunks are done for the grand children…priorities! 😉). What a gift this is to us!
You are welcome 🙏 I will also make some for Christmas gifts. I consider doing a follow-up video with another modification requested by friends 😊 Happy Knitting with all the Tree Trunk Sweaters 🧶🥰
Thanks for the detailed tutorial. I’ve felted quite a few pairs of slipper as well as bags. I have a top loading washing machine (not high tech like yours). I generally set the water temperature to hot, the water level to low and to the longest time. I put each item into an old pillow case and close it. By using a top loading machine I’m able to continually check the felting process of each item. I don’t use any soap and don’t let it spin because spinning can cause permanent creases. It takes less than 30 minutes to get them to size. Instead, once felting is done I squeeze out the water, roll the item in towels and press out as much water as possible then shape and let dry. Once dry if they look fuzzy I’ll shave them with a disposable razor and clean off the fuzz with a lint roller. It’s important to only use 100% natural wool and nothing super wash or blends with acrylic or silk.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience 🙏 How interesting that you can leave out the soap helping to change pH-Valde for felting. It is smart that you have a top loaded machine to allow for closer follow-up on the process. I love felting, and I still make slippers.
Such a good, patient and careful explanation. I love your scientific approach to felting and seeing the stages. It gives me the confidence to try. I had been reading the pattern to knit some as Christmas gifts but struggling to visualise. Now I see it. Gestalt! Thank you very much, Inge x 🤓

I made a pair of slippers with your modifications and I love them. I will now make another pair but would like to have a higher shaft all the way around my ankle. Do you think it is possible to cast on some additional stitches to get a higher heel cap, without the decreases before splitting? In your video you say it is necessary with heel cap decreases, but why? If I make them higher around the ankle and decrease after splitting, do you think that will work?
Yes, Sandra. Absolutely. If you want the higher heel cap around your ancle you just have to make more decreases AFTER the ankle CO sts. Just as you propose. I only did the decreases before the ankle CO to make room for a High-ankle-foot. But later on I realized that I can just work the hole longer before do the ankle CO. I hope it makes sense.
Thank you so much for this video. I have done one pair before, translating from google, but my wasn't as nice yours are. They get holes after some months and I definitely made another ones following your explanation. Very grateful for this !😍

Hello, I have made something similar. I used the inexpensive Lion Brand Fisherman's yarn, and it felts very well. I made them just like regular socks, but the pattern was easy for me as I have made numerous pairs of socks. I felted mine in the washing machine .. i had to keep checking the size. You can pull the felted slipper into a slightly larger shape and bring the toe more to a point for shaping. Takes about 4 days to dry. I will enjoy trying this method next :) My pattern was called 'Fuzzy Feet"
Hi Nancy @nancynewman6592 Sounds great. Thank you so much for sharing 😍 I will check out both the Lion Brand and “Fuzzy Feet”. I remember seing some Danish webshops with the Lion Brand.
I'd love to learn more about these nice slippers before the next pair is on my needles 😍Please share your experience with the slippers e.g. type of yarn used, any modifications and/or your experience with the felting process and used parameters/settings.

@@IngesKnittingLab I’m in Halifax, Nova Scotia. There is a long history here of knitting felted mittens for Fishermen/women. Briggs &Little is the last real woolen mill in Canada (I believe) and a lot of people use this historic scratchy wool for rug hooking too. There is No Way I would have been able to understand this pattern without a video tutorial! Cheers, and thank you for this lovely holiday gift.
@critchie - Unfortunately, I haven’t been to Canada yet. 🇨🇦 Checked out pictures from Halifax - lovely. Thanks for sharing. I will check out your fishermen mittens. I am very fascinated by the different crafting traditions and techniques around the world 🤩 Have a lovely holiday 🎄🧑🎄
felting rather happens from changes of temperature (hot to cold and cold to hot) as well as from friction, that is why it is good to put it together with some other at least one peace of garment.
If you want to felt shoes by hand, I use so called green soap, the smell is not nice haha but works good😊 You use a very hot water and cast it like crazy, and put hot water again and again course it will felt faster! You end by taking the soap out with warm water and the finish with ice cold water ;)
Wow, thanks for your valuable tips. 🌹 I can see now, that I have been far too cautious in my felting process 😂 I can speed up the next time with a much larger temperature change.
The best is to use merino wool, but with no superwash. Icelandic wool is hard to felt but possible. You can also use your dryer ;😊 use the wool dryer balls to cast on the felting items.Use a large plastic bag if you don't want to clean after wards 😂 When felting wool and silk the dryer is used 😊
Thank you so much for sharing, Anna. 🌹 It makes sense that the softer and more crimpier wool like merino is better for felting. I guess I will also dare use the dryer with wool balls the next time. I already look forward to experimenting more and optimizing the felting time. 🌞
Hello ! Thank you so sooo much for your video. It is very helpfull. And by the way, I would like to know about what you are wearing please, it is very nice 😊. Sincerely, Nadege
Thanks 😍, you are welcome 🙏 I am wearing one of my own designs - a summer tee. Unfortunately, I have not published the pattern yet. Hopefully, it will be on Ravelry ready for the summer next year 2025.
Thank you so much for explaining the pattern! Could you please explain which stitches you passed on the new needle for the separation of the 2 feet? Did you stop after the last SSK and then passed on the next 32 stitches onto the new needles? I am stuck on this step😢
Yes, this is exacly what I did 👌 - however ,with my modification I have 36 sts .The numbers) below refer to the numbers in my description box below the video. I hope this makes sense, otherwise feel free to ask again. 😊 5) After the last round of the heel cap decreases, place one half on the stitches on another circular needle (36 sts). The first stitch on the new needle is the stitch above the last SSK stitch. 6) CO 2x 8 sts. You now have in total 44 sts on each of the circular needles for each foot before the new ankle decreases on top of the foot. 7) Knit 6 rounds, make ankle decreases as in the pattern, Knit 5 rounds, make decreases as in the pattern. After the decreases I have 40 sts on the needles.
Thank you 🙏 No, unfortunately the pattern is only in English at Sandnes HomePage. I was taught French in high school but now it is very very far from fluent. I can only say a few sentences, sorry. I will soon publish my own seamless slipper pattern - Felted Pearl Slipper Boots. And I will make a tutorial where you see my hands working - not sitting in a sofa. Maybe this will be better to understand in a non-verbal manner. You can see pictures of the slippers on my instagram profile. Happy felting 🧶
Are you supposed to end up with a hole in between the two feet? Does only one foot get additional stitches cast on? Or am I supposed to pick up the new stitches from the first when I start knitting in the round for the second foot?
No. You make a double cast on at the ankle. And continue using the “second stitches” when you start the second foot. I hope it makes sense. This is my variation. You can also make a single cast on for the first foot and pick up stitches for the other foot as you suggest.
I’m curious to know if you knitted the total rounds for the heel that the pattern calls for and then did you decrease before separation of the foot? Or did you begin your decrease 6 rows ahead so that after decreasing you had the rows indicated for your size slipper? Hope that makes sense😂
It makes full sense 😘 The pattern calls for 27 rounds (heel) before the separation. I did 30 rounds and then + 6 rounds of decreases - so in total 9 rounds more than the pattern for the heel. Remember, I used DROPS Alaska and not Sandnes Fritidsgarn. I find that all DROPS brands felt much more than Fritidsgarn at the same washing parameters. And I really needed more space for the ankle. 🤣
Hey Inge, first of all thanks for this tutorial. I like the way you went deep in the physics behind the felting… very nice. However, I am having an issue. I am knitting a size 39 European and according to the English translation of the pattern I was supposed to cast on 76 sts so I followed your steps by casting on 84. The issue is that when starting the decreases for the heel. It is not clear to me if you decreased on both front and back of your knitting and placed one marker every 42 sts and did the *k2tog, slipped marker and slp slp knit after marker * two times every round resulting in 4 decreases per round… because you said, that you knitted 6 Rounds in total counting the in between rounds of simple stockinette, ending up with the initial count of 76 sts … this doesn’t add up and I am stuck now trying to figure this one out. I would really appreciate the help. I am excited to finish this project :) yours are so pretty with the higher heel. ❤
MY MODIFICATIONS to get a higher heel cap (EU Size 37) and larger "ankle hole": 1) CO 42 "rounds" on the two needles as a Turkish cast on corresponding to 84 stitches (sts). (the 84 sts are more than the pattern calls for to get the higher heel cap) 2) Knit 30 rounds before decreasing the heel cap. (more rounds than the pattern calls for to get a larger hole for the foot "to enter" the slipper). 3) Place markers: Knit 21 sts (K21), place marker (PM), K42, PM, K21. End of Round (EOR). (important to center the decreases around the ancle). 4) *Make decreases before and after each marker: K2tog, slip marker (SM), SSK Knit one round* Repeat from * to * 3 times. Now in total 36 rounds have been knitted before separation into two feet. 5) CO 2x 8 sts 6) Knit 6 rounds, make decreases as in the pattern, Knit 5 rounds, make decreases as in the pattern. 6) Knit 20 rounds (in total 17 cm from the ancle cast on) From here on I follow the pattern for the toe. I really hope this makes sense otherwise send me a gmail or a new comment :-)
@@IngesKnittingLab hello Inge, thanks for the fast reply. Yep, it definitely helped when you are specifying that 30 rows in the beginning make up for a larger hole.. I frogged back there to stick to the pattern for that part. And the tunesian cast on was a very clever choice.. thanks for the explanation. I am excited 😊
Hej Inge.
I have watched the part where you divide into two feet sooo many times, and I can not understand how you do it. After the double cast on part, which one of the sticks do you use to knit the 8 added stitches? It just wont work for me...
Hi Sandra, Yes, this double cast-on on the ankle is a bit tricky. I pull the upper needle to continue working on the first foot. The lower needle is connected to the other foot with stitches on rest. I hope this works out for you. Otherwise, you can skip my modification and do a more simple backloop cast-on method as suggested in the pattern. Good luck with your project 🤞
Yes, I fully understand. You are not the only one. I consider making a new video showing this step better now that I have better rekording devices. But unfortunately this will not help you right now. 🥴
PS.
Hi Emma, I understand you - it is confusing. I use a Turkish double cast on method winding the yarn 42 times around two needles which will end up being 84 stitches when I start knitting 🧶 I hope this makes sense. Maybe also looking up a short video on the Turkish cast on method would be helpful for you. Good luck with your project 🧶
Hej Tina, mener du sy sammen i hælen?
This written patter is making no sence, with the dec, I got 44 st on and it want me to dec 2 stitches 5 times and I Supposed to get 40 stitches for the foot part, well that only 2 decrease rounds?
Hi Miranda, @mirandavikanderson6958 If you are in the pattern where I think you are - separating the two socks - I think the pattern wants you decrease only 2 times. You have 44 stitches. Decrease by 2 sts. Knit 5 rounds (without decreases). Decrease by 2 stitches = 40 sts. I hope this helps you 😊

Sounds great. Thank you so much for sharing 😍 I will check out both the Lion Brand and “Fuzzy Feet”. I remember seing some Danish webshops with the Lion Brand.
Beautiful work, Inge❤
This is so helpful!
Tank you Regina 🙏🌹You are very welcome 😊
I'd love to learn more about these nice slippers before the next pair is on my needles 😍Please share your experience with the slippers e.g. type of yarn used, any modifications and/or your experience with the felting process and used parameters/settings.
I have added my modifications in writing in the description box. I hope it makes sense otherwise send me a mail or comment.😊
Great tutorial!!! Thank you!!
Thanks Kate 🙏🌹
Thank you , thank you! I was gifted some wool yarn from Hobbii the Natur Uld Hjertengarn in jeans blue and pistachio. 10 of each color.. This should be perfect my daughetr and I to do. Happy holidays Inge 💝
@Pickles6115 - You are so welcome 🙏 The Natur Uld sounds perfect for the job 🤩 Enjoy your mother-daughter-slipper-knitting 🧶 🎁 Merry Christmas to you, too 🎄⛄️♥️
As far as i am now, i'd like to thank you for this so very helpful video - you'll safe a x-mas present (have to undo some rows..) Thank you so much De bedste hilsner fra Nordtyskland from Christine
This is so great! I’m just getting g started with this project, and appreciate the details and modifications. Wish me luck. I’m using a wool yarn from Canada from Briggs and Little, “heritage”. Cheers from Atlantic Canada.
Thanks 🙏🌹😍 you are welcome 😊 Looked at the Briggs & Little HomePage. Looks as a fantastic yarn 🧶🤩 Good luck with your project. I just love that you viewers write where you are coming from. I am looking at a map and learning more geography 🤩😍 Cheers
Thank you !
You are welcome Chris. 🌹
felting rather happens from changes of temperature (hot to cold and cold to hot) as well as from friction, that is why it is good to put it together with some other at least one peace of garment.
Yes, thanks. 🙏 🌹 I fully agree. As a newbie felter back then I tried to explain the physics at 34:18 🧶
I have got my wool so off I go. Thanks for the video. ❤
You are welcome 🙏🌹 Oh, it is the best getting new lovely yarn for a new project. Happy knitting and felting 🧶
Wow, such a great video! Thank you for all of your hard work. I am inspired. 🧶
You are so welcome 🙏🌹 Great 🧶🤩
If you want to felt shoes by hand, I use so called green soap, the smell is not nice haha but works good😊 You use a very hot water and cast it like crazy, and put hot water again and again course it will felt faster! You end by taking the soap out with warm water and the finish with ice cold water ;)
Wow, thanks for your valuable tips. 🌹 I can see now, that I have been far too cautious in my felting process 😂 I can speed up the next time with a much larger temperature change.
Thank you
You are welcome, Agnes 🙏🌹
The best is to use merino wool, but with no superwash. Icelandic wool is hard to felt but possible. You can also use your dryer ;😊 use the wool dryer balls to cast on the felting items.Use a large plastic bag if you don't want to clean after wards 😂 When felting wool and silk the dryer is used 😊
Thank you so much for sharing, Anna. 🌹 It makes sense that the softer and more crimpier wool like merino is better for felting. I guess I will also dare use the dryer with wool balls the next time. I already look forward to experimenting more and optimizing the felting time. 🌞
@IngesKnittingLab if you wonder of anything about felting, you can always ask me, "the felting artist "
Thank you. I will for sure 😊 Do you have a TH-cam Channel or Instagram page?
@@IngesKnittingLab I just have mine , I'm working on it 😆 just posted my first video. Probably better to have it under my company SILFA
Im new to youtube 😃😅 would you recomend me doing this personally or under My Pearl by SILFA?
Thanks 🙏 😍 Yes, it is my own design. However, I have not published the pattern yet.
Thanks 🤩. I plan on making a pattern ready for testing and release during Q1 2025.
Thank you ! Very nice tee ❤
Oh nice! It's in English now. Google translate got me through it.
Well done. 👏Yes, Google Translate is our best friend 😂
Loved watching you make the slippers. How many balls of Drops Alaska yarn did you use for these slippers?
Thank you Michelle 🙏🌹 I used 4 balls for EU size 36/37, 5 balls for EU size 38/39 and 6 balls for EU size 44/46. 🧶
Thankyou and Happy Holidays to you @@IngesKnittingLab
Thank you so much for explaining the pattern! Could you please explain which stitches you passed on the new needle for the separation of the 2 feet? Did you stop after the last SSK and then passed on the next 32 stitches onto the new needles? I am stuck on this step😢
Yes, this is exacly what I did 👌 - however ,with my modification I have 36 sts .The numbers) below refer to the numbers in my description box below the video. I hope this makes sense, otherwise feel free to ask again. 😊
5) After the last round of the heel cap decreases, place one half on the stitches on another circular needle (36 sts).
Wow! You are truly wonderful and so kind! Thank you for the fast reply! This is very clear. Thank you@@IngesKnittingLab
@blueliningsus - when you just love to knit and move forward fast, you cannot be stuck for days, can you?😊😅
Thank you 🙏 No, unfortunately the pattern is only in English at Sandnes HomePage.
Just a thought - you can also enter the pattern into ChatGPT to get your French translation. Long live our new AI world 🤩
Are you supposed to end up with a hole in between the two feet? Does only one foot get additional stitches cast on? Or am I supposed to pick up the new stitches from the first when I start knitting in the round for the second foot?
No. You make a double cast on at the ankle. And continue using the “second stitches” when you start the second foot. I hope it makes sense. This is my variation. You can also make a single cast on for the first foot and pick up stitches for the other foot as you suggest.
@@IngesKnittingLab Yes that makes sense! Thanks so much!
Where can you get shoe blockers?
You can get shoe blockers more places e.g at Amazon, and different kinds. Happy felting 🧶
Hi Nathalia, I am visiting friends right now, but I will get back to you later today.
MY MODIFICATIONS to get a higher heel cap (EU Size 37) and larger "ankle hole":
1) CO 42 "rounds" on the two needles as a Turkish cast on corresponding to 84 stitches (sts). (the 84 sts are more than the pattern calls for to get the higher heel cap)
2) Knit 30 rounds before decreasing the heel cap. (more rounds than the pattern calls for to get a larger hole for the foot "to enter" the slipper).
3) Place markers: Knit 21 sts (K21), place marker (PM), K42, PM, K21. End of Round (EOR). (important to center the decreases around the ancle).
4) *Make decreases before and after each marker: K2tog, slip marker (SM), SSK
Knit one round* Repeat from * to * 3 times.
Now in total 36 rounds have been knitted before separation into two feet.
5) CO 2x 8 sts
6) Knit 6 rounds, make decreases as in the pattern, Knit 5 rounds, make decreases as in the pattern.
6) Knit 20 rounds (in total 17 cm from the ancle cast on)
From here on I follow the pattern for the toe.
Great - have fun with your project 🤩
How is it folded into itself without an opening?
Yes, it is tricky. Have a look at time stamp 38:39
Hej Inge.
I have watched the part where you divide into two feet sooo many times, and I can not understand how you do it. After the double cast on part, which one of the sticks do you use to knit the 8 added stitches? It just wont work for me...
Hi Sandra,
Yes, this double cast-on on the ankle is a bit tricky. I pull the upper needle to continue working on the first foot. The lower needle is connected to the other foot with stitches on rest. I hope this works out for you. Otherwise, you can skip my modification and do a more simple backloop cast-on method as suggested in the pattern. Good luck with your project 🤞
I worked it out after some trial and error 😅😍👌
17:57. I don’t understand how to make new stiches. It is hard to see how you do this from behind 😞
Yes, I fully understand. You are not the only one. I consider making a new video showing this step better now that I have better rekording devices. But unfortunately this will not help you right now. 🥴
PS.
Mange tak for tippet Ina.
I'm already confused (I struggle to understand patterns) - why did you only cast on 42 stitches if it asked for 84 stitches?
Hi Emma, I understand you - it is confusing. I use a Turkish double cast on method winding the yarn 42 times around two needles which will end up being 84 stitches when I start knitting 🧶 I hope this makes sense. Maybe also looking up a short video on the Turkish cast on method would be helpful for you. Good luck with your project 🧶
Are these standard sizes for men or women?
Tha Sandnes pattern is for both men and women.
Where can I find the written pattern in English please?
@francoissainte-marie7908. You find the link to the pattern in the description box. Enjoy your slipper project ☀️😊
Choice. Ankle. Otherwise, excellent English! Can’t wait to try a pair myself
Thanks Beth 🙏🌹 Good luck with your project 🧶
Hej Tina, mener du sy sammen i hælen?
This written patter is making no sence, with the dec, I got 44 st on and it want me to dec 2 stitches 5 times and I Supposed to get 40 stitches for the foot part, well that only 2 decrease rounds?
Hi Miranda, @mirandavikanderson6958
If you are in the pattern where I think you are - separating the two socks - I think the pattern wants you decrease only 2 times.
You have 44 stitches. Decrease by 2 sts. Knit 5 rounds (without decreases). Decrease by 2 stitches = 40 sts.
I hope this helps you 😊
@@IngesKnittingLabthanks I will look again,
@mirandavikanderson6958 - Great. Don't give up. You've got it 👟🌞
