Rwanda mineral exports surpass target

Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board exceeded its target by 55 per cent, generating $373 million in revenues in 2017 compared to its target of $USD 240. This was attributed to sustained investments into modernising mining activities and exploration for new types of minerals. CNBC Africa spoke to CEO Francis Gatare on progress and challenges in the sector.

Rwanda needs to invest in the processing of these minerals so as to add value to exports. New industries can be developed by processing these minerals and by using them in manufacturing industries.
