BMW makes the best engines for tuning. The new M340i with a simple tune does 471 HP. I am an Audi guy and there is no doubt that if you want the best bang for buck, BMW is the way to go. If I had the money I would buy an xDrive M3 in a heartbeat. That car is the ultimate car.

BMW never fails to impress me with their cars, especially their M cars~ For me the E46 M3 is the best one, because of that amazing 3.2-L inline 6 engine, and just the sound that it makes, and the timeless look~ Is there a reason why BMW tends to underrate their power outputs for their engines?? EDIT: The E90 M3 is probably close in terms of my favourite M3, either that or the E46 M3, can't forget about that 4.0L N/A V8 from that E90 M3, what a beast that was back in the day.
They underrate it so that if the car is driven in the worst conditions affecting performance (minimum fuel octane, non-ideal temperature, high altitude, etc.) that it will still produce the advertised numbers.
I think its more they try to rate the car closer to what it actually produces on a dyno. More manufacturers should do this, I currently drive a ZL1 rated for 650 but produces closer to 560‐580 on a dyno
It’s awesome that you’re comparing it to the Model 3 performance. Used to be the other way around with all other cars. Not sure how often people will be using launch control at stop lights though lol. Nice review and content.

The VW Golf R and the M3 are two cars that have been released lately that combine a fantastic powertrain and chassis with some other big letdown, be it the interior or exterior. Correct those shortcomings and both would be fantastically solid vehicles
The new Golf R could have been the greatest hot hatch of all time, were it not for VW's garbage capacitive touch interior. That alone completely ruins the car and keeps it from even being worthy of consideration.

AWD is the only way to go for any performance car, but especially for cars intended as a daily driver. The traction control is more dynamic with AWD. Great review. Would any of you guys take this over a base Porsche 911 carrera for around the same price?
Yup I would simply because A base 911 isn’t as cool theoretically as a m3 if it was a GTS and above then I’d choose the 911
Great review! Thank you for the info.
How do you like this M3 compared to your Cayman GTS??
