Pope Benedict XVI: From the Third Reich to the Papacy

In this video, Dr. Rudolf J. Siebert, Critical Theorist and Catholic Theologian, takes an introspective approach to the discussion of Joseph Ratzinger, the late Pope Benedict XVI. Joined by Dr. Dustin J. Byrd, Professor of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Olivet College, Dr. Siebert talks about his many commonalities with Joseph Ratzinger: they both grew up in Nazi Germany; they both attended the Hitler Youth; they both were in the Luftwaffenhelfer and later in the Wehrmacht; they both spent time in a Prisoner-of-War camp, and they both attended Catholic seminary. However, Dr. Siebert chose to live the life of an academic layman in the United States, while Joseph Ratzinger continued his career within the Roman Catholic Church in Germany.
