      I don’t know why you wouldn’t take Tims advice. They probably over charged you on labor, Tim would’ve saved you some money and had it done right. I’ve never seen Semi Casual do anything with a Detroit motor, at all. They USE to build damn good gliders, and you see what they’re building now: over priced bottle babies that are gonna have emission problems out the ass, and emission systems will run you over 30K to fix, and months of down time, AND, when it goes out, it’s not covered under warranty, it always goes out right after your warranty expires. I’d walk away from them as fast as I could, while my shit still ran, and never look back. But that’s jus me.

    Don’t start half assing stuff already. Just do the inframe and if you wind up with a conventional truck you’ll have a reliable back up or you could run two trucks if you find a driver.

      He posted on Instagram that Blue Collar was back together, and based on his replies to the comments, he half-assed it again. I knew he would never go for an inframe, and a re-sleeve was probably too much for him as well.

    As a truck mechanic, I would estimate both for the customer but push for an inframe, but if I was you I'd just pull the engine and go through it all, re gasket and clean it all up. If you can build a 5.9 you can build one of these, they are easy

  • @bradleydavidsankey

    I would do the complete in frame. Chances are liners have dropped too. If you have good liner protrusion then you could get away with replacing one cylinder. I lost a valve seat that wiped out cylinder 1. The other Cylinders looked good, however the protrusion was at .001 or less. Two were below deck. They were surprised I hadn't blown the head gasket. Good luck!

    If it’s a non emergency to get that thing back on the road, why go in twice? Do the in frame, address your heater lines, and everything else now so it’s turn key. Whether you’re using it all the time or not, it’s nice to know that she’s good to go. Plus think of all the content with the rebuild…. Shit will practically pay for itself

    60 series Detroit and cylinder 6 was shinny but 5 through 1 was crosshatched still. We dropped a new liner and piston/rings in cyl 6.
    The truck made it about 60,000 miles and cyl 3 crapped out the liner o rings. NOT WORTH JUST 1 CYL LINER - if your for sure it's going to retire to light duty- then maybe- but those liner o rings are on borrowed time- good luck-

  • @dieselbronco9247
    @dieselbronco9247 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If it were me I'd fix the problem and run it, these big truck engines aren't like car engines where you have to do everything at one time they will do just fine if you fix what's wrong and keep running. I mean it would obviously be better to do a full in frame and less potential problems later on but too many people get a case of the "well while I'm in there I might as well" and then get annoyed because it costs 30 grand. Keep old blue collar on the road as long as you can! Good to see you back again Bruce!

    one reason I like my cummins big cam motor- it has 3 individual heads, I can pick them up myself, if one cracks, just replace the one. just under 700k miles on it and still has the crosshatch patterns in the cylinders. you have some real shiny cylinders there, need to do an inframe/piston rebuild.

    The thing's got a million plus miles on it and the fact some of it is in as good of shape is remarkable. I think you're most likely going to have to overhaul it because in my experience with used four wheel trucks, you always have to basically rebuild someone else's mistakes which can get costly if the previous owner didn't take great care of it which in my truck has been the case. These are the risks you take with buying used and if I could do it all over again with my dad since the truck I'm driving is my first to buy me a new truck I wouldn't have had to worry about doing all this fixing and money spending to until way down the line.

    Do the in frame now , it’s apart and will need to be done anyway! Get it done then it’s behind you and no worries or issues! Go for it 🇨🇦

    Piston and sleeve in it is my opinion. The rest look great.

    Sleeve and cylinder I think is the play still a reliable girl and you wont have to worry about it even if you use it for kicking around

    For the cost of buying a newer truck possibly a def burner I'd do the full rebuild on blue color fix it all up and keep riding that truck is already paid for granted repairs for this are costly but give it the best and it will return the favor beats buying a 100k newer truck to worry about def systems or computers going bad all the time glad your back like your content look forward to seeing more

    If you just replace one piston and sleeve, the compression will be different than the other cylinders and it may not run smooth.

    I’m going to say if the cam bearings look like that then the bottom end bearings probably look the same if not a little bit worse if only the head gasket has been done given the load that gets put on them compared to the cam. I would do an in frame if possible.
