Abba - Ring Ring - Full Performance (Agnetha replaced by Inger Brundin, Austrian TV 1973)

- At that time in 1973, Abba was still called "Björn & Benny", but Agnetha & Anni-Frid/Frida were already part of the group. However, when Agnetha Fältskog gave birth to her daughter Linda in 1973, she was replaced for a short period by Inger Brundin, who we see in this video, on a trip to West Germany and Austria.
Spotlight was a music show for the youth, which was aired between 1968 and 1978 by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF). It was the counterpart to the shows "Beat Club" or "Musikladen" in Germany.
When asked at work who my celebrity crush was, I said "Anni-Frid Lyngstad. I think she's my perfect woman".
"Who's that ?" would always be the reply.
"You know, the dark haired one out of Abba".
"Oh my god, that's the last person in the world I'd have thought of - you being in to Heavy Metal ".

@@TaxingIsThieving Sadly not. It was for a fancy dress, party which I'm not keen on at the best of times. So I made the minimum effort for maximum effect. I've got the long hair, the ears and it was just a trim of the beard and a couple of fake warts, black shirt and jeans already in the wardrobe, just needed the Iron Cross and the hat and hey presto - instant Lemmy.

Inger Brundin recorded professionally as Inger Heinerborg. She was a Swedish Christian/Gospel singer with a fantastic soprano voice who sounded eerily like Agnetha but perhaps with a little less "personality". She passed away in 1993 at the young age of 41.

@@bassboysix I know, I mean i checked Inger's album cause she has albums too, and she slightly sounds like Agnetha. I also asked my brother to guess whose singing when I let him hear one of Inger's songs, and he also mistaken her as Agnetha. I don't know if you will hear the similarity between their voice once you listened to it but for me, she hauntingly sounds like Agnetha a little bit...

I think this was the second time Inger Brundin stepped in for Agnetha. The first time was on German TV in January 1973 when Agnetha was heavily pregnant. Not sure what the rules are now but airlines (or a lot of them) wouldn't carry very pregnant women back then. Agnetha was still able to perform because she appeared with the others at Melodifestivalen in February, weeks later.
This performance was in Austria not long after she had given birth. We have to remember that this was early 1973, a full year before ABBA won Eurovision. So although the four group members were well known in their homeland, not many people knew of them in the rest of Europe. That's why the felt they could temporarily substitute one at that time. After they became super famous, they'd never perform with one of them missing.
The inventors of the "happy sound" in happy times...btw. Frieda is really beautiful whenever she was really herself.

Early ABBA records were billed as Bjorn and Benny. Here in the US, "Ring Ring" was the first 45 (on Atlantic) billed as ABBA in mid-1973. It did OK, but when the group won Eurovision the following year, "Waterloo" hit big in Europe and the US, and the worldwide success followed. Inger looks good; sorry to hear she passed so young.

Wow, I never knew any of this. I never knew Agnetha had a daughter this far back in their careers and I have watched several documentaries on ABBA. Funny how they kept that off the table. Thank you for the post.
Well she married Bjorn in 1971 and had their first child in 1973. Part of the reason for splitting was that she didn’t want to tour extensively with young children.

It was well documented about Agnetha being pregnant during this period in documentaries and wasn't hidden away, as you suggested.she was in her final stages of her pregnancy during Ring Ring being performed as a contender for the 1973 swedish Eurovision competition which they didn't win.they even thought she might not be able to perform and have the baby during this time or at the competition itself..there are heaps of photos from this period with Agnetha heavily pregnant and ready to pop,and photos of linda growing up with the members of ABBA.. linda also appears in the live music video for "I Have A Dream" both of therir children weren't hidden away but were kept out of the limelight but they were there and regularly mentioned..Bjorn and Agnetha had kidnapping threats made, after they divorced. Agnetha has also done solo albums with each child when they were kids,in swedish

@@Laceykat66 no you didn't say "hidden away" I did,but you basically did by saying "funny how they kept that off the table" it was generally talked about because this was one of the reasons why ABBA didn't tour much because Agnetha didn't want to be away from the children and suffered guilt big time,she also didn't like leaving them when they did promotion for the new albums which only recently Bjorn said he couldn't understand why at the time she felt that strongly until recently he now understands.this why ABBA did a lot of TV specials back in the day . when ABBA did interviews they mainly talked about their work,not idle chit chat that you get these days and all the 6 children of ABBA where not generally talked about in the selling product of their brand and Albums in interviews,very rarely if they did but were mention in the documentarys made for television (not interviews)if the discussion came up regarding about there marriages..
