Kingston make quality RAM. Even on the desktop side, early adopters of DDR5 struggled to run 4 DIMMS in their motherboard at the advertised speeds - the first time I actually saw it working well was with using Kingston. I think a lot of people overlook them but they're a solid brand especially when it comes to RAM.
Yes, I always use Fury ram on my desktop, not only does it work amazingly well but it looks great! I used to use corsair years ago then had a couple of bad sticks, moved to Kingston and never looked back
@@MashITTechmy Kingston ddr5 exploded in my laptop
@@Smokeblast1seriously? you got photos of it?
@@parsipax6337 yeah lol
There is the video I was waiting for, thank you! Great to see this actually works
oh yes, sorry its taken so long :)
There is almost no data out there on power consumption differences when moving from a stock 16 or 32 GB config, to 64 or 96 GB. Additionally I wonder if using single rank memory for the lower capacities extends battery life, vs the dual rank required for higher capacity sticks. There is also the question of 4800 MT/s vs 5600 MT/s effect on power consumption as well.
I'd love to load up with 96 GB, but at what cost to battery life? This isn't data that most people search for, but with so little info out there, a video on this would probably attract a large chunk of those seeking it.
I am currently looking into this as a couple of people have asked. Currently try to find a scientific way to best test this out. Will let you know how I get on 👍

A good start may be to see how much more wattage is drawn from the ac outlet when idle vs when running benchmarks. I know Factorio stresses memory hard, so that might be a good non-synthetic benchmark to throw at this. I'd assume that wattage increases at the ac outlet for faster/higher capacity?/dual rank RAM, should remain within 10-15% of the increases measured on battery power, unless the RAM is being under-clocked when on battery.
Any reduction in RAM performance on battery power, would show up in benchmarks, and perhaps also be detectable if a lower RAM speed is reported by the system when not plugged in. Tests comparing power consumption from the AC outlet, using a power management profile such as Asus' "Turbo" that can advantage of it, would be interesting to see, as a comparison point against a power management profile that is suitable for either battery or grid power. I'd expect RAM that stays clocked identically on grid vs battery, to show the same difference in power consumption, even in a grid-only power management mode.
An alternative to measuring consumption from the grid/AC side, is to intercept one of the battery leads for current measurement, and tap the other to also get voltage, so a wattage can be calculated. More work, but I'm not sure there will be a more than a fixed % difference vs measuring watts consumed from the AC powered supply. Another TH-cam channel measured DDR5 power consumption at the stick level on desktop, but this would be overkill, and perhaps even less useful since what we ultimately care about is the impact on battery life, including consumption effects on related hardware when RAM is swapped.
I don't need it...I don't need it...I don't need it....
Great review as usual Dave :)
Thanks mate and my office is FULL of things I NEEDED 😂
your ass
well i really admire what u did, so yeah it was really a nice thing to be assured of "since i was wondering about the exact 96 ram kit"
keep up the nice great things u do 🥰
First of all, thanks so much for your review and be the light for all of us that we are worried to know if the 96 will work or not. As I could read, you finally decided to get back to the Fury Ram, which I purchased thanks to your other review. Your decission was regarding the speed as I could understand, is it right? Only this? You could see some delays in heavy workloads? I use after effects, premiere, illustrator, photoshop and 3D model and from my ignorance, I feel that 96 will be better than 64.
Again, thanks so much for your time and help!
I have a eluktronic Prometheus laptop will this work for those laptops? It has dual ram slots?
One can never go wrong with Kingston
I tried 2 sets of the crucial 96GB RAM during normal tasks it worked fine but in games they would crash.
Ran RAM tests they all passed.
Ended up going to the Fury 64GB and gave up on the 96GB..
Mine is a Razer16 just like yours I believe.
thats so weird. I have the 96gb workingt fine but it is slower than the fury so I ended using the fury myself
@@MashITTech yeah I got blue screens and memory IRQ errors but it passed memory tests 🤷♂️
Fury work well and I’ve downgraded the firmware to get 5600mhz back, I saw no benefit to 2.02
What about Mushkin Redline 96GB 2x 48GB DDR5-5600? Do you think you will get similar results as the Crucial kit?
Could this also be used on the 2022 and 2023 models of msi gt77? And since it has 4 ram slots, making it 192?! That would be insanity, though it speeds would probably lower than their desktop counterparts.
Awesome video mash and how do you feel working in laptops with less RAM after this any significant difference?
Thank you mate. It would totally depend on what I was doing. for just gaming and light use (browsing/office/content consumption) I still think 32gb is the sweet spot. My work load is pretty heavy (video editing/photo editing/3d design/development/VMs) therefore the more ram I can get my hands on the better. If I was stuck with just 32gb I could cope but I would have to be careful with what I was doing was any one time. I hope this makes sense?
yep, depends on what you're doing!@@MashITTech
The razer blade is much better than leigon. My Legion pro 5's ram frequency drops to 5200mhz when I upgrade to 64gb.
I don't even have the laptop I will put it into, but I already have the ram collecting dust! I ordered a framework 16
Same laptop (Blade 16, 4090 i9), in need to upgrade from the stock 32GB. Will go for Fury 64GB. Fund them under 200$. Thanks! PS: any benchmark on editing, office work and gaming?
hey, did you update your bios to latest version? it seems like the latest version 2.02 can not main 5600mhz for 96 memory anymore.
This video is very helpful. But I'm curious if 96GB ram also work on blade 14 2023?
Can you do a test upgrade for the Razer Blade 15 [2022] with RTX 3070 Ti and Intel 12900 CPU?
You had made that one go up to 64GB of ram before, but how about we test 96GB now?
which razer blade would you choose the 16 or 14 inch I would like your opinions I was thinking on the rb16 because of 4k but don't know if I should get over rb14
I wonder if it's possible to build a ram drive in windows to make use of this much ram.
I used to do this years ago! I will have a look into it again :)
There probably is some legacy software (20+ years old) that could do this
hi can you please confirm if this kit will work with the MSI Stealth 17 Studio A13V please ?
damn I bought the 96gb modules for my razer blade 15 with 12th gen i7 (12800h). I can't get past the black screen, with no razer logo showing... Does the 12th gen razer blade not support these 96gb ram modules?
that cpu says 64 max
I just wondering, is support 48 + 8? Total 56?
Should it work on Acer Predator Triton 17 X
... the major question is whether you can install 2x 48 GB modules to Blade 14 (2023) ?
and the second question, whether you can put an 8TB (double sided) SSD into the machine as well ...
When I get some spare time I will try the ram for you :) Would love to get an 8tb drive in but they are stupidly priced in the UK and I just can't afford it at the moment
@@MashITTech thank you for your "lightning-fast" reply ! My plan is to upgrade to 2x 48GB first. I'm fine with 4TB SSD right now, but would like to upgrade to 8TB next year. You know, I'm very excited about the "above" hi-end possibilities 🙂
@@_CharlieHarperwere you able to upgrade the ram to 96 gb?
@@FMSUERO 'haven't tried it yet, I'm still keeping my 64 gigs which is good enough for me at the moment, but I most definitely will, as soon as I run out of memory for the first time ...
nice video, what will happen if you do 2x64gb of ddr5 ram i know the manufacture saying max is 96 gb ram, some people have tested it and it works great. maybe a next video idea
greetings from the netherlands
I didn't even realised 64gb sticks had been released! do you know who made them?
it's possible to also add this RAM to the Alienware M16 4080 ? do you think it could work, because intel says 64gb ram max support
It should work fine, I don't have one in the studio to test atm but hoping to get another m16 next month
Did you have any problems with temps on your ram under load? I have a legion 7i pro gen 8 and my ram chips get extremely hot under load(like 110C). Just wondering if you had any issues as well.
Has anyone attempted these new sticks on a laptop using 13900h laptop?
So far I tested in the P1 with 13800h successfully. Will be testing in a legion 7 with 13900HX soon
Yes please test with 13900H
Hi mate, which one is your everyday carry laptop? Razer Blade 16 or ThinkPad P1 Gen6?
In all honesty I prefer the blade 16 over the p1 for my use but I actually use the blade 14 as my daily carry as I need the portability and yet the 14 has enough power for my needs
Currently, I take the Fujitsu U94/a as an everyday carry laptop (weight: 900g). However, it is hard to do some 3D modeling work or data science (AI) in the field. So I am planning to purchase a mobile workstation. ThinkPad P1 Gen6, HP zbook studio 16 G10, and Razer blade 16 are on my list. Now, I prefer the Zbook studio (13900H, RTX 5000Ada, 64G-5600, 4K 120Hz Dream Color), but the Razer Blade 16 can come with higher specifics (13950HX, RTX 4090, 64G-5600,4K mini-LED) with almost the same price. I have no idea about the performance of these laptops when they are unplugged. Could you give me some suggestions? (BTW, my daily backpack is Mystery ranch Urban Assault 24L )@@MashITTech
Morning, mate! Can you test these in the Alienware X17? Do you still have your R1 or only the R2? Let me know, thanks!
so sorry mate, I recently got rid of the X17 to fund this years laptop purchases 😢 the downside of being a small channel
So you can actually do this on the M18. I'm not sure about the x17 models. The only issue that I've seen on Reddit is people have mentioned you just can't get the faster speed with 96 gigs of RAM.
So if your use case has more RAM dependency in terms of storage, I would go that route. But I can't. Quite honestly see why you would really need 96 over 64 in any given task 😂 It's honestly just a flex from what I can tell... a cool one albeit 💪🏼 But I think the speed is actually more beneficial. So having 64 gigs of RAM running at 5200 megahertz would be more beneficial than 96 gigs of RAM but only running sub 5000MHz
That's not 100% accurate but I agree speed is the most beneficial but its timings are as important as the speed. The m18 struggles running any ram at 5600mhz unless there has been a bios update I have missed. If you look at the fury which is also running at 5600mhz like the crucial in the blade and is much faster due to the better timings. With the 96gb crucial, if the speed is dropped to 5200mhz it will also get slightly better CAS timings. This is also the case when I used the fury in a laptop that maxed out at 5200mhz
please can you test that kit on Dell G16 Gaming (7630) for 96gb ram
my laptop, ROG G713RW, advertises 4800mhz, can I use 5600mhz or it'll be redundant?
is it possible to add this ram to Alienware M18 as well?
sure is but it will run at 5200 unless dell have released a new bios allowing the higher speed
I would like to know what is the model of CPU because Intel says taht i9 13900H supports max of 64GB
the razor blade comes with the 13950HX. It also worked fine in a Lenovo with 13900HX
Good question maybe the exact cpu is going to determine correct compatiblity
I’m using the same rim in the OLED, 15 inch model, but I don’t know how to set the ram speed. How do I do it?
-Why do you need so much RAM?
-Yes
For almost 99% of people 96gigs are useless. But for developers, scientists, professional video/pictures editing is may be useful.
you are absolutely right but you have no idea how many requests I got to test the 96gb kit! I am a heavy user and be honest I am happy with a faster 64gb fury kit I use
Hi.
It is possible to test DDR5 RAM 64Gb & 96Gb on ASUS ROG Strix G16 model G614JV-N4120 from 2023 ?
Thank's
Is that practical and practical to certain laptops?
It should work in any 2023 laptop with 2 sodimm slots 👍
@@MashITTech thanks
Is it possible to use this amount of ram in a razer blade 14 2023 edition?
I can install this in asus rog strix scar 18 13980hx or not /& if yes this will work with 5600mhz or not
have you tested them on lenovo legion pro 7i gen 8 13900hx 4080? I want to buy 96GB 5600mhz or 64GB 6000mhz for this lenovo laptop and I am wondering if it works or not! please try these rams on your lenovo laptop as well, thanks.
Did you try this? I would love to see the results.
Hi. Bought couple of crucial 48gb sodimm. Installed them into my razer 16 with intel i13th - no razer logo - just blank screen. No boot.
Removed them and get back to factory 2x16gb sodimms - everything ok.
So either this solution require some additional dances around the laptop or it just don't work on every 2023 razer blade 16.
Really if there is some advice how to make 96gb in 2023 razer 16 work - it would be great. Cause now it just money thown away on 2x48gb sodimms
Did u try 96 to work i am thinking about buying it too
wish i could afford a laptop, i dont even have a deaktop
It support on intel i7 12700H? Gen 12, 2022 cpu? Is like combination 48 + 8, 16 = 56 / 64? Is possible to adding 48 GB stick on these laptop?
I havent got a 12th gen laptop left to test but in theory it should but will only work at teh speed of ram your laptop allows (ie 4800 or 5200)
So I have to put windows 11 back in Noooo pls tell me it’s not so I have a gigabyte G6 I thought about putting that in I don’t want to put windows back in the labtop?
you do not need to reinstall windows for just a ram change :)
It's razor balde 16 2023?
Yes, 16 was only produced this year so there is only 2023 version 👍
Youd reckon theyd go into the m17 r5 22?
Yes it should be fine but it will run at 4800mhz and tighter timings 👍
@@MashITTech 4800 is the max for the motherboard then ? Thank you
What about an asus vivobook 16 x pro k6604ji
Will this work in the Alienware 18 r2?
Thats insane mashit😅
haha thanks mate. How are you doing?
I have a Razer blade 16 and I bought the samd kit. Why mine is only 5200 mhz...
Maybe they sent you the wrong one...
Hello, first of all thanks for this video. After seeing it I decided to upgrade my new blade 16 with this 96GB RAM kit, but when installed it has been detected 5200 Mhz instead. Did I di something wrong? There are some settings I have to change to have it working at 5600 Mhz? Thanks
sadly Razer released a BIOS which limits all 64gb and 96gb to 5200mhz. Only option would be to downgrade BIOS. In all honesty though, it drops it back to 5200mhz speed but lowers the CAS timings so it will still be fast
Oh I see.. I did some benchmarks and seemed pretty fast with a decent latency so I was wondering what I did wrong! Thanks for your reply.. I am pretty happy with my 96gb kit.. thanks
nice! will this be compatible for my ROG SCAR 2022 G533ZX model? intel i9 12900H , thanks 🙌
I haven't got that model to test but there is no reason it won't work. It will probably run at 4800mhz as its 12th gen but you will get better CAS timings as a trade off
@@MashITTechcan you test it on 2022 laptop, specially on intel gen 12, 12700H legion i5? Thank you.
128 GB on MSI GT77... 😉
4 slots ftw!
The only problem with the MSI GT77 other than the atrocious looks and terrible bezels 😂 Is the fact that it only gives you I think two m.2 slots?
I think I would be happy with 64 or 96 GB RAM but have four m.2 slots for more storage capacity. My personal two cents in the matter.
Theoretical 20 Terabyte NVME storage outweighs 16. Which even then there is an extreme case of storage. But for a lesser price it's more obtainable in an alienware chassis with four slots and cheaper SSD prices if you don't want to go all out. It's much cheaper to run eight terabytes on four m.2 2 TB sticks that are less expensive than two 4tb m.2 slots
Can you add additional ram to what is already provided by razer or will it cause an error ?
Hi can 96 be fitted on razer blade 16 2023 model ?
yes it sure can
What do you benifit from a ram upgrade? Help please
Potentially nothing! It totally depends what you use your computer for. If you are using it for just gaming and light office use I would say 32gb is the sweet spot. If you are a heavy user for say video editing, photo editing, development, 3d design or VM use you will quickly use up that 32gb of ram and then it uses your SSD as swap which is slow and not great for the SSD.
I am having an issue, although I followed same process and same products, but my laptop is razer blade 16 2024, but instead of 5600MHz, its showing me 5200MHz in task manager and also 2 of 2 slots used instead 2 of 4, as per your video, can you explain what might be the issue?
Unfortunately razer released a bios recently which downgraded the ram speed to 5200 on my 2023 model and it clearly applies to the 24 too. I think it was to improve stability even though my kit ram perfectly. The only good news is even though it’s running at 5200 it will be with lower timings
@@MashITTech does it effects performance? will Asus Zypr 16 2024 can be better than Razer Blade 16 2024?
Can it be used with the Razer Blade Advanced 2022?
It should, Gary has taken the blade 22 home with him (he uses it for editing) when he is back in the office tomorrow I will test for you
Which model laptop (YEAR) is this? 2023 or 2024?
2023 version but 2024 is just a refresh so will work fine
I thought the max capacity was 64gb.
64gb was the max ram available when it was released! these 48gb chips are new and work perfectly
So it can 128GB RAM?
I expect so if I could source 2x64gb chips
please do make another vid if you are able to find a 2x64gb kit, would love to purchase it. thanks!@@MashITTech
always on the hunt 😁 as soon as I find any I will get them in
would this work in the AW m18 R2?
Worked fine in the r1 so should also be fine in the r2 as they are essentially the same. The r1 does clock down to 5200 so I expect r2 will too but it tightens the timing because of the lower speed to still a worthy upgrade
@@MashITTech thank you, i also seen on reddit also that it would work; and yes, the 96GB clocked down to 5200, which is the same speed of the 64GB in the machine now;
Dell customer service (the best i ever dealt with) instead of sending back the $295 for the $200 price drop on the same day i received the m18 R2 last week (mentioned in another thread you commented on), they sent $313.73😳;
now, with that, i can now look at the 96GB; but i'm also looking for a high level Dock with KVM for two laptops (USB-C or HDMI) and two 4K monitors, any suggestions?
@@private-nobody6667 wow that is good! Glad to hear they came through for you, certainly better than dealing with Razer CS 🤣 I have looked at a few products that you are interested it, a company called TESmart sells them, here is a video on one of their products: th-cam.com/video/dtKoEkiMXCs/w-d-xo.html they do everything from 4 PCs to 3 monitors to just 2 PCs and 1 monitor and have various input choices but warning in advance they are not cheap!. I just received the 4 PC to 3 monitors and although I have started testing it I havent started filming yet
Wait what, 96g in a laptop
Oh Yes! 😃
that is an illegal amount of RAM
Haha I would have preferred 128!!
Viagra for laptops. It does nothing for performance...
To be honest, I have to say, the color of the new rams is really cooool
