4 AM on the mango farm Thailand. Just changed our old dogs diaper and he wanted to pee again. Your taking me back to the 60's and 70's are a breath of fresh air. Growing up on a dairy farm my only music outlet was the radio in the milk barn and the tractor radio. A 500 watt local day time station on the tractor and PBS night time in the barn. I was just dreaming I was driving around the hills in my 68 Mustang. Barry's songs really brought back memories.
Never knew that Barry and his wife had lived in my country -NZ- as my college english teacher used to say "try to learn something new every day" and today I did just that.
Lee, thank you for all these musician videos. They have been such delights. Some of the contemporary Christian artists you have worked with were trying to testify to Truth. I hope you can hear that as you review your past. No coercion on this end, but as the song ended, now we come to Him on bended knee … 🙏
SO INTERESTING! Thank you for this post, Leland! I was 12 when Eve of Des was on the radio and loved it so much. Also my father was working in Reno and was able to see the Christies several times in the 60s, and I loved their recordings as a kid wallowing in beloved recordings♥
Barry's voice can do a lot of things, but the growl is unmistakable. It's right up there with Howlin Wolf. I enjoyed these songs. I believe The Duel was Stephen Spielberg's first full-length movie and one I've watched several times, and I'll watch again given the chance. Cool tidbit on the sounds of the truck going down. I've wondered how that was created. Love and Thanks ❤👍❤👍
As a teen my first introduction to “Eve of Destruction “ was an episode of Greatest American Hero with Joey Scarbury on vocals. Loved the song a lot and bought a copy of the original McGuire version on cassette. Congrats on 1/4 of a million subscribers Lee!
Goodmorning Leland!! Such interesting history! Thank you 🙏 So lovely you all had a good time together with family and friends☺️Great stuff! Hope and love to all!! 🌹🪷🌹🪷🌹🪷🙏🎶🖕🖕🖕🖕👍❤️
Yay Lee!! 250K subscibers!! Ohhhhhh, so exciting! 🥰👏👏🎸😊🎵🏆 Well, the sun has just gone down for the night here on the east coast. It's a windy, rainy day here on Cape Cod. We could always use the rain, the wind? That's another story. 😂 Felt warmer out here today; 60F°. Tomorrow, we're back to winter, but this is New England after all. 😂 ☀️ ❄️ Barry McGuire, Have you Heard? Great tunes!! 89, wow! Thank you, Lee! 🎵 Gosh, I miss you! Love you bunches!! 🥰❤🎵🎸🤗
Hello Leland. Have been decorating for Christmas . Found something that will 100% bring your wonderful spirit to our holidays. So we know you cannot come by physically , but we will look at this and you will be with us 100% in spirit. I’d like to post the photo here for you to see. Please let me know how I can send it to you. :) Merry Christmas
Like some brilliant things do, "Duel" just came out of nowhere and appeared on the TV screen to mesmerise the unexpecting viewer. No trying to explain or make it into a complicated plot, just the experience. Dennis Weaver sitting there at the end, distractedly picking up a stone and throwing it. Great stuff. 💎 And I just learned that it was based on a short story by Richard Matheson published in Playboy! So someone actually read those magazines... 😂
🎊🎊250k!!!! Congrats!!!!! A quarter million viewers can't be wrong!!! Two notes from me on this one: 1. I remember my Mom (the country fan) mentioning The Christy Minstrels, and 2. (Somebody can tell me if I'm wrong on this one), I believe he would be most famous for being mentioned not once but four times in the chorus(?) of the Mamas and the Papas' "Creeque Alley" (1966) which was and still is regularly played on radio.
I have a neighbor that I walk w everyday. Yesterday he mentioned lyrics to Eve Of Destruction. I said Barry McGuire! Friend said, "I don't know", I'll show him today's video so he will know
Aloha Leland, I wanted to wish Chester a Happy Birthday, he turns 76 years old today. I know you guys were close friends and traveled thousands of miles together. ❤️🤙🏻
You picked both of my favorite songs from that album. I remember playing this album on the air at the college radio station where I worked and attended. I also use to play Chubby Chubby followed by Fat Fat Christiana by Gary S Paxton.
Herb Melton was the bassist for, "A Band Called David." What a great player! I imagine that you knew him Lee. I enjoyed your work Lee with both Barry and 2nd Chapter of Acts ("Roar of Love", just to name one). On, "Light of the World", Lee there's no doubt your phenomenal work caused more than a few souls to convert. 😉😉
Hey Tim , JT now has Larry Golding on keyboards, Jimmy Johnson on bass, Mike Lawler on guitar and Steve Gadd doing the drumming. He's had this backing band for quite awhile now.
I see Jackson every time he comes to San Diego and I keep hoping you, Russ and Danny will be on stage. T😊wo years ago Jackson ended the tour here at Humphries and Russ was in the crowd.
Didn't mean to mislead you Tim. I'm not Lee but a good friend of his. Been following James since 1970 and of course Lee and the others inn the Immediate Family. Hopefully he sees your comments. Bob Love L.A.
As of the day this video came out, Dec. 11, 2024, Barry and his wife are building a new house up in Washington state. Of course, he has retired from playing music.
Actually I do that a couple of times a week, bowing the bass right next to the bridge. It's an exercise from Leopold Mozart, the father of you know who, which sounds horrible but teaches bow control. It's done with a metronome to try to get a certain duration of the note.
Evening Leland 🧙🏼♂️ 💖 ☮️ .. Thankyou for Barry Maguire 🎤✨🎶 Healing energy ⚡ to Maureen,yourself and the boys 🐾 🐾 🐾 Glad Maureen had a good Birthday 🎂 🎉
Hey Leland! I was chatting with you a few months back about you joking with me and I was truly rolling with laughter! Since then I've seen you on music youtubes with many of the greats! I noticed so many of your beautiful bass guitars! Were they your picks or ones gifted to you? P.S. your bald hairline hasn't changed in years! Gotta patent your secret my friend! Ha ha! Stay in touch!

Hey lee. Congrats on 250k subscribers.

Boy, those names really take me back - Herring, Talbot, Ward, Owens, all significant players in my love of CCM, as far back as the early '70s!

The song may be titled Too Fat to Fly but that Bass is certainly flying, especially on Light of The World outro, I classify as a Bass Solo!

Hi! 👋🏻
Thanks for Barry!!!!!
Saw him three times. First in 1977, and the last one in 2008.
Barry's voice sounds smooth on these recordings , not as rough and gravely like Eve of Destruction and Green Green. A really nice sound.😊❤
Atta Pepper Maureen glad you had a great day and Night!!!!!!!!
"Duel" was Stephen Spielberg\s first feature film
250,000 not bad. It would be nice to see the TH-cam plaque on the wall behind you??????
Have never been given one.
Hi Santa! 🎅🏻 🎄
Duel was Stephen Spielberg's first full length feature film he directed.
🚛🚛. This was a three meal video so we just got to the end. Loved the "Duel" story! Back in the days of network TV: everybody saw it.
