I really enjoy this podcast, even as a Texas fan. I think Tennessee is under more pressure here. They are good, but have they really been tested by a good defense? My horns are good, but the same question applies with our defense..have they played anyone with a top flight offense? I think this will be a tight one. Venebles will bring exotic pressures that Nico hasn't seen. I think they will confuse him.
Well said…people are assuming TN’s offense is elite, but OU’s defense doesn’t seem to be assumed in the same light. Even though OU’s defense is more proven. (So many returning starters, and they were borderline elite as a unit last year)
I’m just saying. . . I think between OU’s defense and TN’s offense someone is going to be exposed as being overrated. And I don’t think it’s going to be OU. . . TN may still win, but the assuming that they are just going to run up the score on Ou is what’s insane to me. TN haven’t played an even halfway decent defense. I can’t wait for this game.
I do expect venebles to have nice scheme for this game but it is hard to get exotic with the way Tennessee spreads the field and how fast they snap the ball. Uga got pretty exotic a few times in 22 but I don't think this OU defense has the same personnel. 2022 uga was an all time roster

One thing that will help is if the defense provides the offense with a few short fields. And Oklahoma cashes in with touchdowns.
Whoever gets more of the obvious stuff right wins this game. Turnovers, efficiency/assignment soundness, making the layups, and time of possession.
We don’t need any heroes. We just need guys doing their jobs well.
Can we get more of that 3 tight end set? And run the clock. The shorter the game the better chance to keep the defense rested and the score minimal.

Tennessee's DL against our OL gives me real worries. I wonder if Jackson Arnold makes it though the game the way our OL has been playing. PLay slow, time of possession might be our best hope. We can't afford 30 second 3 and outs.
I agree with Gabe y'all may have to say F it and max protect some a bit and just run 2/3 man routes and what Teddy said about running some screen/shovel plays must be incorporated to keep them off balance and slow them down

Force Tenn to hurry up 3 and outs like we saw from OU under lebby.
Start with a slow methodical offense to keep Tenn off field and out of sync.
Once advantage has been established and Tenn defense is tired of being on field, hit them with hurry up.
I hope Alley and Venables are up all night all week coming up with new looks that will confuse Tennessee
Look for play-action pass on the first play of the game from them.
Win the time of possession and keep Tennessee's offense off the field.
There's only one problem with that ... we don't care about time of possession. We score fast and often GBO
Tennesse had 212 yards and 13 points offensively in the first half vs NC State: one possession taken away from the pick 6. Not sure saying NC State stopped the TN offense in the first half is super accurate.

I'm worried that JA may not get out of this game Healthy. Our OL and RBs must block to give WRs time to get open. I'm confident in our Defense we will sow them down but not stop them.. I see a game 28 -17 TENN.. Best case OU wins on a DEF TD.
Our crowd impact will NEVER be SEC caliber until 2 things happen. 1. we get younger fans. 2. We get a new crowd engagement team or the current CET learns how to do their job better.
I believe that we are gonna unleash nic Anderson on some deep threat routes. That will soften up the Tennessee defense and allow us to snag a victory in a hard fought win.

A lot of the old people in my section usually stay the whole game. The only time I see them leave early is the early games when it’s very hot! The students though need to get better…

We don't know yet whether or not Tennessee is the best team in the country (they might be), so treat this one like we made it to the playoff and play balls out to win. At the same time, stay healthy because this is just the first SEC game and we will have more big time opportunities later in the season to make a statement if this one happens to get away from us.
Venables D needs to SWARM and stagger Nico early and often,and home crowd LOUD.OU will outscore 27 24

Let’s not overcomplicate it. Our OL will be dominated by a bona fide SEC DL and our defense will eventually break as a result. Tennessee embarrasses us in our first SEC game. And we should be embarrassed with what we are fielding.

Well, that is true. One side of the ball has a horrific OL, which is OU, it is not a good recipe for Arnold
Only problem is Tennessee will have the same plan, and unlike OU, has a highly potent running game and freshman QB

tempo is the most moronic option ever in this game. Tennessee is better hands down. Their 3rd set of DL's are still better than our offensive line. The best option is to slow and shorten the game...hope Nico has a couple of turnovers. The more plays that happen the better team usually wins. Defensively I think we are pretty close to them...but offensively we aren't close right now.

All I want is a defense that doesn’t give up long play touchdowns and holds teams to field goals instead of touchdowns in the red zone. If we can get a few guys back and have an average offense at least I think our defense is good enough to take us really far.

Am i missing something with the defensive line commentary? They are 74th in the country for sacks per game and Pearce has accounted for 1 total tackle
Tennessee hasn't played a team willing to drop back and pass. Been all quick passes which is why the back end hasn't really been tested thus far. I think oklahoma will actually try to run traditional pass plays with real drop backs.
And James Pearce is usually done pretty early. He's probably played less than 50 snaps this season through 3 games and gets doubled majority of the time

@@user-jf8oc3ri2q last I checked Tennessee hasn’t made a playoff or won a championship. They have a shot this year now that it’s expanded. They have been mediocre and trending up the last few years. All ou needs is a punchers chance and they have it.
Im not going to dispute that Tennessee is a really good football team but are we putting too much stock in them blowing out 3 bad teams? Im not that impressed with the NC state win. That team barely beat LA tech the week before. Kent state lost to Saint Francis University who ive never heard of.

I'm just saying that everyone picking Tennessee to win big might be putting too much into those non conference games. We're going to find out.
Oklahoma will play mostly base defense because of tempo and the wide splits.

Multiple seasons recently OU has played good defense in the "pre season" games and everyone thought they were going to be great. Turns out they were just average.
I'm sure this defense is better, but I'm not convinced they are a top 25 defense. Let's see what they do Sat and the. Assess them after Texas game when they have actually played a few decent teams.

We dominated up front against Texas last year by making their fat boys run side to side. If we can get their ole big fellas tired we may have a chance to run some clock. If we can run the clock that gives us a slight chance of keeping the game close, if we can keep the game close we have an even smaller chance of getting the win. Imo this plays out 3 ways. Our offense is electric with the guys we get back and we try to get into a shootout. Score ends 45-42 leaning Tennessee. Other is we are able to run clock and keep the score lower around 28-24 leaning ou. Third is the nightmare scenario, they get an early lead and force us to rely on our passing attack which has sucked so far. If that’s the case we lose 42-17

The host starts out this podcast with “what more could we as fans want“? The answer of course is quite a bit, a lot. How about an offense that is fully prepared to be competitive at the highest level? How about an OL that is ready to compete at the level equal to the millions of dollars we as fans pay the OL coach? So yes, we as fans could want much more than we’re getting right now. The possibility of being embarrassed as a program on a national stage by a far lesser program is not all that we could want. 🤮
Lesser program? Better stadium, check. Larger fanbase, check. More money, check. Decades in a real conference, check. You have heisman winners. That’s it.
