So let me get this straight: 1. You pay Daniel Jones $40m only to get part way through the year and realize he's not the guy, despite overwhelming prior evidence he wasn't the guy. 2. Even though your owner did basically everything short of commanding you not to let Saquon Barkley, you didn't read the room and let Saquon Barkey walk anyway. 3. Saquon Barkley doesn't just leave, he goes to your divisional rival and has one of the best years in history for a RB. And yet somehow Joe Schoen keeps his job? Good work if you can get it I guess . . .
My guess is Mara is looking more at his track record than that of Schoen. When an owner is on his fourth GM and fifth head coach in nine years, it is an indictment of the owner. When a franchise is spinning through regimes like that, there is no other conclusion. Mara is hoping that Schoen can fix it to save him as opposed to him simply assessing Schoen has having done a poor job and trying to find a better guy to run the franchise. It is weird that the GM and coach are being saved by the failures that came before them.
Well you have to put things into context if you want to be taken seriously. 1. For DJ... Mara was 110% behind keeping DJ. What YOU think as a fan doesn't affect Mara's thinking. Mara thought it was the right move, so it carries no weight in Mara's judgement on Schoen. 2. Letting Barkley go WAS the right move. Now I would have looked to trade him the previous year or even this year with a tag and trade, so you could control where he ended up. But signing an aging RB with significant injury history to a multi year contract with significant guarantees, on a team that is... at best, two years away from contention is a dumb move. Now its a fair argument in a vacuum to say, they should have cleaned house here. But the people who say that, never have actual options to replace them. Who is coming to save the day? What in all of Mara's hiring history gives you confidence he would have made better choices? I can live with keeping them, as I could have lived with cleaning house. It's far better than what they were wanting to do, which was to sacrifice Daboll and keep Schoen. That guaranteed failure for two or more years. Now at least, if things fail we can clean house after 1 year.
@@Metalgarn Why is everybody ignoring the fact that we are getting healthy on the cap side. Schoen is responsible for that. I believe now that we are in better shape cap wise. It will get better. IMO.

@@mattcarberry368 I'm a Bills fan. Daboll didn't just happen to be there. There is a reason Josh's development in those early years was amazing; everyone credited Daboll from Josh to McDermott to the fans. The Josh Allen we're all saying is a MVP candidate now, was still super raw when he came into the league. Big arm, Tight end body, and the will, but it's Daboll's coaching that got us to that AFC championship game. After Daboll left, the offense got dsyfunctional again under we got Joe Brady. Mr Mara can be mad all he wants but he created this situation.
They might need to get a vet QB because i have a feeling if Sanders ends up as the QB, him and Nabors will take over the team by week 5 (if they don't win games). Nabors already, as a rookie has mouthed off about the team several times, if him and his buddy Sanders become the next dynamic duo, they'll end up running the show
Choosing Daniel Jones over Saquan was the worst move by a GM since Ryan Pace drafted Mitch Trubisky over Pat Mahomes & Deshaun Watson. Joe Schoen will never win a Super Bowl with the Giants.
Prior to Daboll’s stint with the Bills; 2009, Cleveland Browns: QBs - Brady Quinn, Derek Anderson; 5-11 record, 29th in points. 2010, Browns: QBs - Colt McCoy, Jake Delhomme, Seneca Wallace; 5-11, 31st. 2011, Miami Dolphins: QBs - Matt Moore, Chad Henne; 6-10, 20th. 2012, Kansas City Chiefs: QBs - Matt Cassel, Brady Quinn; 2-14, 32nd 2022 record (9-7-1 and 4-7-1 Div) beat a terrible Viking team and smoked by Eagles in Playoffs 2023 record (6-11 and 5-7 Div) - no post season. Forced Wink out and let #26 leave 2024 record (3-14, 1-8 at home and 0-6 Div) - eliminated from post season on Thanksgiving
Those QBs didn't do anything on any team! Casell maybe. None of them were good at all pretty much. Most of the ones you named had enough talent to be good NFL QBs.
It's a sick culture and I think that the game has passed them by. Get an experienced QB in and develop the line by signing some veteran offensive lineman. Shedeur Sanders is not the answer, because losing with just piss him and dad off and they'll become another distraction that the Giants don't need. If the Giants go 9-7 next year, they have a chance. If they win under 6 games, it will be another 3-5 seasons before they get on track. Also, get some DB's who can tackle. Tackling in the NFL is a lost art.
We travelled 1,200 miles to see our beloved Giants in Munich and that Jones performance, that flea flicker, will stay in my mind FOREVER. It’s up there with that **** Judge’s punt formation on 3rd down.
Not a fan of "sack somebody" as analysis. We don't have this coverage of analysts by other analysts, do we? That said, Schoen should have quit out of embarassment.
I can't imagine what high talent free agents or draft picks will want to play for the Giants next year if you can't even rely on the coach and GM lasting past that year.
Problem isn't Brian Daboll's coaching. Problem is their GM who can't assess talent. Also, letting go of Saquon, who they would've had to pay at maximum $16 million a year against a $40 million dollar quarterback who's "contract year" had 14 touchdowns.
Considering that none of the past GMs or HCs became HCs or GMs elsewhere shows he made the right move then. To now second guess doing it again? Give me a break. He needed to move on from these guys. They both would land on their feet. Daboll would undoubtedly get an OC gig and Schoen an assistant somewhere. They’ll be fine.
The problem is Daboll does not seem like the coach he was in his first year. The fire on the sidelines and press conferences looked why dialed back as if someone had told him the tone it down. Even the half time adjustments became ineffective. I liked him a lot in the beginning but somehow he looks like a pale version of himself the last couple of years.
How many adjustments can you make with such a terrible roster? It’s obvious that Daboll can coach but he has a shitty roster. GM should have been fired
There decision is Very disrespectful to the fan base who fill the stadium week after week this team will be bad for very long time the weakest team in the division
Seriously if the giants had even mediocre qb play they would’ve won 6-8 games. Daniel Jones is beyond terrible. It’s insane he lasted there as long as he did.
and the giants fans need to leave Mara with a totally empty stadium.. and no viewership on tv.. pull the money from Mara... then you will see major changes to the giants..
The Giants tied with the worst record in 2024 (3-14) now plays the most difficult schedule in 2025 (.574). The Giants Home schedule is brutal, the two weakest teams on the home schedule are Dallas and the 49ers, both who will likely recover in 2025 after key injuries in 2024. Hard to see how the 2025 record will be much better than the 2024 record before the FA and draft.
So I am curious if perhaps this is sort of play to act stable and a place which has a quarterback centric coach to convince Deion Sanders that this place is where his son should play
I’ve said this over and over. It feels like Mara told them if they do everything they can to make it work with Daniel Jones no matter what happens they get a chance to do it their way. Now here we are.
Well if this segment were Sophie's Choice it'd be a lot shorter.... It's a yes! Team has regressed every season over the last 3yrs, the offence is putrid, the defence is arguably worse, especially against the run to the outside and in case that wasn't bad enough we haven't fixed the cap (yes we've cap space in 2025, but we've also got no QB on the roster and 30 free agents). I'm all for stability, I believe it's generally how you build a franchise properly, but only when it's moving forwards - not when it's moving backwards.
In my mind, the 2025 season is over the moment the owners keep them after so many screw ups. You have a coach who was not prepared with a punter in a game. When was the last time that happened in the pros. Keeping/Paying QB over RB. Not really doing due diligence to change the whole physical conditioning training staff after yr after yr with so many injuries. Horrible scouting department. On and on and on.
4:43 I love you, Rich and you can talk about Michigan all day, but it comes to my Giants. I don’t know. You never dragged me as 100% on point. Of course Mara has lost patience. We’ve all lost patients as franchise is not acting like a flagship franchise anymore so we’re all fucking frustrated.
This is why the Giants winning that game against the colts for their pitiful pride was the worst outcome this franchise could’ve had. Like you said they need the QB, really without that it doesn’t matter what they do. And because the players wanted to keep fighting at the worst possible time, this team isn’t going to get one. The likelihood a team trades up with Cleveland, or Cleveland takes the QB themselves is just so high in my opinion. Then Tennessee is sort of a lock to take a QB at 1. So what do you do? Send Kirk cousins into the cold/elements? Sign a broken ego Sam darnold? How about a mummified Rodgers? This team is absolutely doomed if they don’t trade up for a QB, and the worst part is that these QBs aren’t exactly stud prospects.
We just don’t wanna end up like the last to GMs. Under fire spending too much and trading off to make a quick fix because there wasn’t patience. That’s gonna reflect on ownership I don’t wanna become Chicago
I can’t believe Mara thinks the Giants had a “Good free agency period” this year when Joe Schoen let Saquon and McKinney both leave for NFC playoff teams where they made an immediate impact. Joe backed Daniel Jones who you cut before Thanksgiving, keeping your GM is delusional.
The problem is they let Saquon walk because they didn't want to pay him $12mil/year. Well by releasing Jones early, they now owe Jones $12mil/year even though he's not there!

They might need to get a vet QB because i have a feeling if Sanders ends up as the QB, him and Nabors will take over the team by week 5 (if they don't win games). Nabors already, as a rookie has mouthed off about the team several times, if him and his buddy Sanders become the next dynamic duo, they'll end up running the show
Yes
Choosing Daniel Jones over Saquan was the worst move by a GM since Ryan Pace drafted Mitch Trubisky over Pat Mahomes & Deshaun Watson. Joe Schoen will never win a Super Bowl with the Giants.
Prior to Daboll’s stint with the Bills;
2009, Cleveland Browns: QBs - Brady Quinn, Derek Anderson; 5-11 record, 29th in points.
2010, Browns: QBs - Colt McCoy, Jake Delhomme, Seneca Wallace; 5-11, 31st.
2011, Miami Dolphins: QBs - Matt Moore, Chad Henne; 6-10, 20th.
2012, Kansas City Chiefs: QBs - Matt Cassel, Brady Quinn; 2-14, 32nd
2022 record (9-7-1 and 4-7-1 Div) beat a terrible Viking team and smoked by Eagles in Playoffs
2023 record (6-11 and 5-7 Div) - no post season. Forced Wink out and let #26 leave
2024 record (3-14, 1-8 at home and 0-6 Div) - eliminated from post season on Thanksgiving
Those QBs didn't do anything on any team! Casell maybe. None of them were good at all pretty much. Most of the ones you named had enough talent to be good NFL QBs.
@@Danny_On_Wheels44 Just the facts about the QB whisperer.
Why is everyone so sure that Daboll is a good coach? He's gotten progressively worse each year.
Giants fans should stay home and let this lousy team play in an empty stadium.
Rich is ALWAYS on 🔥
I can not support Joe Schoen anymore.
The Giants should worry about themselves.
Ah the Mara effect
How many adjustments can you make with such a terrible roster? It’s obvious that Daboll can coach but he has a shitty roster. GM should have been fired
i could maybe see Daboll staying but idk how you keep the GM around.
I hear hella frustration with Jerry in TJ's voice. Rightly so of course. That was such a universal moment, I knew exactly how he felt 😅
Joe should go for sure
What exit off the NJ Turnpike is the Delaware Water Gap? 🧐
Totally agree.
Delaware Water Gap mention, what a show.
The answer to your question is HELL YEAH THEY GONNA REGRET IT! YOU SEE THEIR SCHEDULE FOR NEXT YEAR? DAYBOL WILL BE FIRED MID-SEASON
Schoen should have been fired mid season
I don’t want to start over. Let’s hope. It’s all we got.
Only time will actually tell
So I am curious if perhaps this is sort of play to act stable and a place which has a quarterback centric coach to convince Deion Sanders that this place is where his son should play
I can understand keeping Daboll but I can't understand keeping Schoen. It makes no sense.
The GM was the worst.
When John Mara said he is starting to run out of patience, all the trash cans in MetLife started heading for the exits.
John Mara has ruined the Giants.
I’ve said this over and over. It feels like Mara told them if they do everything they can to make it work with Daniel Jones no matter what happens they get a chance to do it their way. Now here we are.
So three years trying to make it work with Dan Jones but one year to do it my way? I’d pass on that deal.
@ me too! I wish they would have as well. I don’t think they knew it was going to take 3 years to figure out the Daniel Jones situation though. lol
Guess I’ll be selling my seasons tickets this year again
They sure will regret it and so will our fans
Well if this segment were Sophie's Choice it'd be a lot shorter.... It's a yes!
Team has regressed every season over the last 3yrs, the offence is putrid, the defence is arguably worse, especially against the run to the outside and in case that wasn't bad enough we haven't fixed the cap (yes we've cap space in 2025, but we've also got no QB on the roster and 30 free agents).
I'm all for stability, I believe it's generally how you build a franchise properly, but only when it's moving forwards - not when it's moving backwards.
Linemen both sides of the ball. They need to get some blockers and tacklers. Lots of free agent QBs. Get some talent.
John Mara is finally ready to put his foot down and say I want Winning RESULTS!
Philly fans loving the decisions being made in Dallas and New York 🤣
4:43 I love you, Rich and you can talk about Michigan all day, but it comes to my Giants. I don’t know. You never dragged me as 100% on point.
Of course Mara has lost patience. We’ve all lost patients as franchise is not acting like a flagship franchise anymore so we’re all fucking frustrated.
Dabol needs to go to. He was supposed to be the QB whisperer and none of the Giants QBs showed any growth that was consistent.
If they fired Daboll and Schoen, how many coaches, including coordinators and GM's would Jones have been responsible for?
Rich, The NYG should be offering the Patriots a first round pic for Joe Milton!
We just don’t wanna end up like the last to GMs. Under fire spending too much and trading off to make a quick fix because there wasn’t patience. That’s gonna reflect on ownership I don’t wanna become Chicago
And the giants have the hardest strength of schedule next season
I’m not a Giants fan, and even I can see that Daboll shouldn’t have a job. That team wasn’t just “a good QB away from success” this year.
Maybe the Giants don't like any of the QBs in this class. Next year they'll clean house and give a new guy a shot to pick the QB?
Rumors are they’ve heavily scouted Ward and Sanders.
Standards have been lowered. Two promised Mara improvement, 5 wins.
Not sure which is worse, keeping Schoen or the Jags keeping Baalke lol
So you're running out of patience but you're only going to give them one more year and potentially let them drive the quarterback. It makes no sense
Run it back?
The definition of insanity.
Giants lining up for Milton with an eye towards the 2026 draft.
I predicted both would return. 2025 every game will be the Superbowl. We need 6 wins.
I don't know why we act like Saquon on the Giants changes anything for the Giants.
Who is the person who thought it would be a good idea to pay Daniel Jones?
That guy should definitely be fired.
The problem is they let Saquon walk because they didn't want to pay him $12mil/year. Well by releasing Jones early, they now owe Jones $12mil/year even though he's not there!
My friend is a Giant Fan
Feel bad for him. In 2025. Another
Losing season
Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott have helped Josh Allen more than Daboll. But Josh Allen was a crazy talent anyways
Our problem is John Mara
Fire the GM
Saquan was never the issue in NY. It was there awful O-Line and Danny dime bag. But put Barkley on the Eagles with a good O-line and a much better QB of course he’s going to ball out!
