One of my aunts worked for a gentleman who owned a house on Monas, and we were fortunate to accompany her when she took her vacations ' Down the islands' as she was allowed to use the place. We had great times there and I remember watching all the pretty power boats going by and wishing I could own one. Thanks for the memories.

Perhaps you may consider getting a crew of locals and showcase the cleaning up of the garbage left on Ellis Island and surroundings. If we want to attract visitors we have to make it an attractive paradise. Very little money need to be spent to clean up. Please address this with the Tourism Trinidad

Thank you so much for your efforts on this tour and for showing us the history of things that most of us have long since forgotten. I'm not quite sure why you were so shocked by the ages of the indentured servants though. Field work is grueling and has long days. One would assume that they wanted young healthy labourers to do it and I can't imagine they wanted anybody over 40. One would also assume that Jagdeo aged 1 came over with his young parents who wanted a better life for their family rather than as a labourer himself! 😉 It's no more strange than young Mexicans, Filipinos, and even West Indians migrating to the States, Canada, and other Western societies to do the most menial labour in order to get 'a taste of the good life' (in their eyes). It never fails to surprise me how people who would never deign to do "low class" work in their own country are happy to lap it up overseas.
