Robert Masse. A great book. Read it 22 years ago. Still have great memories of that book.

Danielle Green I’m about 100 pages in. Only 900 more to go! It’s fantastic so far.

This Beneventum reminds me of Berg’s Baton Rouge (my first video), another unusual situation from one of his series (Great Battles of the American Civil War) featuring special rules for the urban combat which involves about the same amount of map as seen here.
So my favourite Bergman chrome would be those rules for street fighting in the ACW at regiment level. Not too complicated but neither too simplistic and abstracted. They capture a character of this unusual situation and blend it with the rest of the rules.

Thanks for this. I didn't realize he had died. I'm sorry to hear it. I have fond memories of playing his games in my youth, notably Terrible Swift Sword and War of the Ring.

Thanks for the video. I have not been keeping tab on the wargaming scene, and only recently started to get a bit of exposure via internet. Thanks to your video I know the passing of the great and prolific designer Richard Berg. I still have wonderful memories of playing games designed by him. RIP Richard Berg.

Fantastic video. Thanks for posting this. I just starteda getting back to collecti gand playi g boardgames, and Berg's titles are some of my favorites - playing some GBACW at the moment. We have indeed lost a legend. Again, thanks for posting.

I learned of his passing from Wisdom Owl's _Invasions_ kickstarter. As saddened as I am, it seems like he not only had a long but enjoyable life with a stunning legacy to leave behind. He was definitely an influential wargame designer.
I am a fan of his designs, but have no where near your collection. I think my favorites are the _Men of Iron_ series and the _Great Battles of History_ series, but there are many other great games that I would probably lump into "favorites" category (as I don't actually rank games). I think I like MoI for the era they cover and the simplicity in the rules, while I like GBoH for its notion of cohesion of the formation being the damage taken (and taken by movement) rather than just men lost. I have the reprint of Medieval (but my board broke, I need to find a replacement) and Conquistadors to try solo, but I haven't even gotten to reading the rules. Just put in my order for _The Devil's Horsemen_ (the MoI version, not _Devil's Horsemen_ the GBoH title), and that is one I've been looking a while for.

Thanks for doing this Kyle - a very nice tribute. Check the rules for 'Birth of a Nation' for some classic Berg asides, many of which, as a Brit, I admit I don't fully understand! I met Berg about 20 years ago in London, at a seminar hosted by Prof Phil Sabin. Berg's bag had gone missing in transit and as a result, he had squeezed in to Sabin's jogging clothes. He complained about this (blaming Sabin) throughout the seminar.

one typical Berg rule is in The Devils horsemen:
12.2 Mongol Reaction to withdrawal. when the Mongols reach their Withdrawal level the Mongol player has a choice:
    - he can accept defeat and loss... and marking him a spineless wuss for generations to come, and not acceptable in any decent Mongol household. Or Chinese restaurant
He can, instead, immediately conduct a Dismount and Defend Phase (see below)
the first point is so typical of Berg. there's the same things in Blood & Roses and probably in Medieval as well the (three titles I have that immediately come to mind)
    RIP Richard Berg
