Now consider how much stuff there's around Gensokyo that eats humans and absolutely *thrives* in the dark, starting with Delicious Chickin here and Rumia, and overpowers a normal human so easily it's not even funny...? They oughta be pretty noctophobic there, methinks. :/

@joelcll Not necessarily. Mystia's songs create night blindness. You can still see, but your range is desperately cut short and it can go away. Rumia, however, has raw control over darkness, enshrouding either herself or complete areas, and can maneuver in it. No night blindness, day or night she can blackout the area she feels like. ... Buuut Mystia's a Stage 2 boss so I suppose she's got a natural one-up. =P

@devilman1996 Somehow I think Mystia's spells would work by making you incapable of seeing past a certain distance like in the game. Therefore this spell could be nullified if you used NV goggles or a camcorder, since you would be technically looking at a screen that's right in front of you.
Canon (as in "Perfect Memento" anyway) says your average Gensokyo human is at best even with an average youkai - and it's a safe bet the named boss-grade critters are varying degrees more powerful than *that*. Even the weaker end of those can after all put up a real fight against truly exceptionally powerful humans, like now Our Heroes(tm). So, yeah.
