we never know the kinds of people celebrities really are, which is why it's important not to fanatically idolize them. what a shame to see this scandal :/
@@lapisincognito Good try I'm actually Chinese :) Just so you know, a lot of Chinese people are die hard kpop fans too. You can't deny that Wu built his fan base from being a member of Exo...and then Chinese people glorified the heck out of him because on top of being a kpop idol he also has a Canadian citizenship and can speak decent English. The fact that you refer him as a Chinese rapper, laughable. LOL
I'm happy to hear these young Chinese people say they want the age of consent raised in China. I hope that this case is the catalyst for raising the age of consent in China and other nations.
I honestly don't see a reason for this. The age of consent doesn't matter if it's about rape because there is no consent. Rapist won't face more time in jail if the age of consent raises.
That's true when rape is involved but with the age of consent raised in theory it should make it harder for people to groom under-age people online. It can add to someone's prison sentence if the victim is under-age too.
@@edoppelle age of consent is also about protecting minors though, its can be an opportunity to teach young people to identify red flags and reach out for help if the need to
@@edoppelle I really don't think a 14 yr old has the mentality to consent to sex. This gives predators a chance to coerce and force consent, which is not even possible at that young age.
*I feel like as a society they need to praise the young girl who chose to expose him, because the courage it must’ve taken to do that knowing the power of his “fan base” is truly heroic. It’s truly a shame- as an army, I can understand when fans/stans get defensive abt idols. BUT THIS is something his supporters should speak up for since it is a beyond horrific matter, and DEF not try to reason his actions* ✊
Yes that girl was actually brave. It takes a lot of courage to expose scandal like this imagine there is million of fans that are willing to fight you just to protect their idol but she still exposed it anyways not just for her sake but also for the sake of the other victims. I salute that girl!
I'm also an army and I once had a crush on Kris Wu I liked his music but then this scandal appear I stayed neutral to see what is truth...And now after he is detained and decoding the things now really feeling bad to all the girls who gone through this harassing and the girl is very brave to speak the truth... And ya it's also became a problem to the fans like they can't see the negative side of their idols we should have to be neutrals and never trust someone blindly...
His career is over. Whether he is convicted or not, an agency will never sign him again. The most he'll be able to do is move back to Canada and live a quiet life.
Good. He was always annoying af in his youtube appearances, e.g. Hot Ones. He sucked on the surface, and he sucked in reality Edit: It wasn't Hot Ones, it was First We Feast.
I think it's important when discussing sexual harassment by celebrities you should also talk about sexual harassment and rape culture in general. Celebrities are less than 1% of the population, but one in every 3 women will experience sexual abuse, I think these celebrities cases should be an opportunity to talk about this issue in general, and not just a single case.
@@manahilsaleem6045china was too obsessed with him most of kpop fans always change fav idols groups and fav kactors they changed taste thru era 🤡 while cfans stuck n too loyal
I'm so glad I'm not a superfan of any celebrity anymore. Being a hardcore stan of anyone can blind you. The amount of people who have already to assumed his innocence is appalling. Obviously we don't know the full details, but in general, I wouldn't be surprised if assault/harassment runs rampant behind the scenes in the industry. It's not uncommon for people with money and power.
For those holding out hope these allegations will prove to be false: it is important to note that the burden of proof in sexual assault and rape cases is much higher in China than many other justice systems around the world. The police must have been presented with very conclusive evidence for this to have taken the course that it has. There is no reason to doubt that he is guilty.
South China Morning Post absolutely failed to talk about the matter. Thank you Asian Boss for interviewing this matter that practically all of young China is aware of
@@tonyeclau Maybe it has nothing to do with politics, maybe they're trying to get more information for a comprehensive story. I don't think international relations have much to do with celebrity drama.
His stans are still defending him on his social media accounts. His stans will defend and worship him no matter what he does and it's disgusting. At this point it's almost like a cult.
Some of the comments in this video really show just how sheltered some of these kids are. Like that girl who said she thinks its an isolated incident because she's never heard of celebrities doing this to teenagers before...what a thing to live in that type of blissful ignorance.
Exactly. This Kris incident is probably pretty earth-shattering to her given that she used to think everything's just flowers and roses. And it's just crazy how she thinks that it's an isolated incident after all of these...
Well, to be fair, there may be incidents behind the cameras but were never exposed. I think this is the first time in China that a celebrity screwed up his personal affairs so badly and made it known to the world 😂
I agree because right now that I’m 19, I think I was pretty much sheltered as a child too. When we we’re discussing about sweatshops back in high school I was ignorant to answer that consumers are not responsible and that it’s those who exploit the workers. But now I’m way way more awake of issues around the globe and she may not be exposed right now but she will very soon starting from this case. Awareness is good but I think a lot of parents choose to hide those issues for now for many reasons. edit: Also younger people aren’t really listening or viewing the news too much (me and my brothers listen but not often). It was only 2 years ago that I started getting into news more often because I was starting to be more mature. I think when you get more mature that you start paying more attention to what’s going on the world seriously and getting involve with the issues around us especially dark topics like this such as sexual assaults/abuse.
Imagine having the privilege that there are millions of girls dying for you to even notice them yet he still chose minors while any other person of legal age would have been ready to be with him WILLINGLY
Because being with someone willing makes you feel attractive, but with someone unwilling they get a power trip. It's about power, that's why they go after weaker victims, young, petite, drunk, weak, etc.
For all the laws and precautionary measures China has, I'm surprised that their age of consent is 14. I actually thought it would've been 18 or at least a year older.
At the tender age of 14 they are literally a child. They will not be able to take decision of simplest thing in life forget about sexual consent... I am simply baffled..
It's crazy, here alone in the Philippines our age of consent is 12 yrs old. Several politicians are pushing it to become 16 yrs old but it's still young.
This is one of the biggest reasons I hate the whole concept of celebrities need to be pure and innocent crap. People should never forget that celebrities are still human beings, them being rich or gorgeous wouldn't instantly turn them into an angel. They can still commit crimes so we shouldn't 100% trust and worship them. Some people who are depressed or suffering view celebrities as a god figure, a reason to live for and a role model to follow which is wrong. This kind of mentality must stop. At same time we shouldn't try hard to force them to pretend to be clean. They should be allowed to date, curse, drink...etc like any normal people. ( Am not trying to defend Kris here. What he did is unforgivable and he has no excuse to being such a scum. Am talking about other celebrities like Kpop idols who are adults yet aren't even allowed to drive, date, drink or smoke due to their companies banning it and people considering these stuff awful scandals ) I think at times the stress building up from having your life constantly controlled by your company and fans / getting suffocated with sky high expectations can lead the celebrities to lose it and do stupid stuff like becoming addicted to drugs or even lead to depression and suicide. In this case some of their obsessed, hardcore fans might follow them by also committing suicide cause they lost their beloved god figure. The whole concept of purity of perfection only leads to tragedies and misery. If the fans only focused on the celebrities talent instead of personal lives then everyone would be more happy. You can admire their looks, love their personalities, respect their achievements and good deeds but don't make your whole life revolved around them. They also shouldn't be forced to make their lives revolved around their fans and try their best to be someone they aren't. Anyway Kris's career is pretty much dead and I really hope all the victims get justice and other celebrities / people overall who are thinking about doing such disgusting stuff as well will think twice before attempting to. People would do anything to get what Kris has in his life and yet he ruined it all, it's just sad as heck! ( Hope everything I said made sense ).
Makes a lot of sense. It's too shocking to hear Kris Wu do all this disgusting acts! I support celebrities in whatever they do but there's always a limit. I'd stop supporting them if they did somethimg morally very wrong. Thank god I was never a Kris Wu fan!
I don't think this was the issue with Kris tho. China a lot more lenient when it comes to celebrity dating and kris already has a few known girlfriends and there wasn't much of a backlash for him until now. So this really don't have much to do with w.e stress he got or image he had to upkeep. He was totally capable of finding legal consenting girls and have a healthy relationship (like luhan?) But chose not to. If there's one thing about fans worshipping celebs related to this, it's that it made his head big. He felt like he had the power to manipulate young girls/his fans to sleeping with him or using them as playthings for him and his companions or whatever. It got into his head that him being a big celebrity means these girls must be Hella lucky to be with him and since he was such a rich top star he thought he could get away with it by paying hush money. Even his staffs were covering for him and threatening the victims. He wasnt expected to be pure and innocent at all but at least be a decent human with morals which he apparently couldnt do.
Well, I agree. But what these companies are selling is perfection and pure . In reality, personalities like these don't exist and nothing is perfect, therefore people tend to seek perfection for comfort or salvation from these people. Thus supporting and worshipping them like God. Just like idol companies in Japan for example. No matter whether it is in the art or entertainment industry, everything breaks back down to business which prioritise profit, benefit, advantage, power, fame and money. Kinda unrelated, but just wanted to share my point of view. So in conclusion, people who work in any entertainment industry are prepared to create a life full of facades and lies, either under the contract or for personal benefits. They are aware that job like this aren't easy and are fully prepared for it.
I think it's okay to support good music and good talent, but emotionally investing yourself into someone whom you don't even know personally can be harmful.

As ironic as it is, the industry that is full of the brightest stars also has the darkest shadow. It is much more common than what we think it is. I hope that one day, all personalities that enable and perpetuate such a disgusting culture will face the corresponding punishment for their crimes.
I really don't want to make it sound like ALL celebrities and idols are bad people or anything, but, *famous people are still PEOPLE and that means they are just as corruptable and corrupting, as any other person.* They will use their money and fame to get what they want, like anyone would. Fame will either destroy you, make you destroy others or both. Its not suprising at all. What annoys me is that there's still no reall end to the "this idol is pure and innocent OMG so handsome and clean etc." because... like... GROW UP. They're not!!! They're people with lusts and dark sides. Fans needs to stop eating-up the corporate nonsense.
My mom used to say that celebrities are people just like us, who need to pee and poo every day too. If being poor made me only capable of thinking something bad, their money and fame made them capable of making it happen.
really, this is just absurd. with his fame, look and money, Kris Wu can have any girl he want and he chose to rape girl???? How stupid is he!. Corrupted to the core. There is more to this than meets the eyes.
Haha! Makes sense but nope. But a lot of the people in more rural areas do not have full access to information, and that can affect perception. Like varying perspectives highly depend on the type of information (or misinformation) that people receive. That’s why internet is so important. You can just fact check things and search for what you want, instead of being fed with agenda-driven info.
That’s why I never idolize celebrities. Human beings are complex and you would never know someone’s intentions, especially if they only show you the best version of themselves.
Couldn't agree more. Like, I idolize Spider-Man, cause he's not real. But I don't idolize Tom Holland, because he's human, and no human is perfect. I mean, I appreciate his accomplishment as an actor...

The crazy thing is that his mom is also part of his management team, and knows about all his habits and deeds, and still tried to cover it up by bribing the victims...
He is a Momma’s boy. As someone who actually supported him for years I always knew how close his bond was with his mother. I think it had to do with being raised by a single mother, father not claiming him and him kinda taking the husband role. There’s this thing called emotional incest and I truly believed his mother condoned a lot of wrong actions from a young age into his adulthood so I’m not surprised she was in his management team. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s gatekeeping finances, shares and property while his case is still being under investigation.
On the bright side I think this scandal is also a wakeup call to all young fans (especially female) in China, there should be a limit to how far you are supposed to idolize your favorite stars. Getting physical and selling yourself cheap in the name of affection and worship is proven hurtful.
Actually it’s the entertainment companies who idolize those stars, making the young girls crazy for them and do anything for them. These companies and the industry should be limited. Because if they r not limited, there will always be young innocent girls becoming their preys.
It's important to remember that celebrities are people with money and power and people with money and power are most likely extremely corrupted. The celebrities you admire are not the angels you see on camera. Never defend anyone.

The MeToo movement is doing two great things. 1. Most importantly women have an outlet to hold men to task for their disgusting behavior. 2. Making people realize how sick and disgusting the whole ‘celebrity’ worship we have as a culture is for us as people.
metoo has nothing to do. After publishing the article, the victim and the suspect were blackmailed by a double-sided scammer. Then Wu's mother call the police first! it's sad because when a celebrity commits a crime it's such a big deal when it happens to everyone. thousands of people are victims of sexual harassment but they didn't get the justice they deserved.
Of course when celebrities commits a crime, it should be a big deal. They are role models for the society. They are the inspirations for many people especially youngsters. When they commit a crime it makes huge impacts. It even damages the reputation of others who he is involved with. So they have to be more careful and responsible than ordinary people.

Kris Wu's case has shook me to the core. And it's not only because I was mesmerized by him at the first place but because we don't know what type of people these idols are behind the scenes. Any of our favorite could be doing the same thing and we would never know that we are supporting such a predator. Doesn't that scares you?
This can be the case with any person you know, see, meet. It's good to be aware of such a possibility. Still, it's good to keep your trust in people. We just have to move through pain if something bad happens and try to remedy the situation if we can, like, supporting victims and such
I appreciate that Asian Boss always tries to focus on the issues in an unbiased way. I'm so tired of seeing other media outlets trying to influence people into believing that his alleged crimes were committed because he has Canadian citizenship and is technically a 'foreigner' in China. His citizenship has nothing to do with the crimes. If he is found guilty of these crimes, it won't be because of his citizenship, it will be because he's a bad person. (Also, to be completely frank, the only thing Canadian about this man is his passport. According to his wikipedia page (so take it with a grain of salt) he was born in China as a Chinese citizen and he only lived in Canada for about 5-6 years between ages 10 and 17.)
Wow this is really shocking, cuz all this year im being a big fan of K-pop, even more EXO. Im going to be more careful about who I admire these days starting by the pastor from the curch and the celebrities.
Do you have any idea how rampant sexual assault is in the kpop industry? If you like kpop then well you are watching and taking part of an industry that is riddled with abuse. And that includes the shoddy contracts that kpop singers have been signed to
@@DavidJohnson-dp4vv It's rampant in entertainment industry everywhere unfortunately, not just k-pop. Only difference is that they seem to be very good in sweeping most of them under the rug because of the way fan-services works in this culture. There are lots of ex-trainees who are talking about it these days in youtube, so I think more people are getting aware of it. Nothing wrong in being a fan, putting them on pedestal is the problem
In movie Sweet Sixteen , kris Wu depicted a boy Xaimu who almost killed a man for raping a girl , ironically, in real life he himself was doing the same with so many girls ! Never expected him to be so cruel !
It's totally okay to be a fan of celebrities. But it's also important to keep things rational and be willing to criticize them where necessary. I am a fan of a kpop group too, and like with almost every group there have been scandals (of course nothing as outrageous as this, if any of the people I stan were confirmed to have raped minors I would stop stanning), and I have taken to the "wait and watch". Whenever something happens I wait and see how it develops until I know more of the full picture and can form my own opinion. I don't blindly defend them nor hastily condemn them. I wait, see, and when I am absolutely sure about my own stance only then will I speak up about it. I think it's important to be open-minded to the possibility that you might have been wrong about who your favorite celebrities are as people. We don't know them. As long as you keep being aware of that and don't rush to scream "They are innocent!!!" the second a scandal comes to light it's fine to be a fan. That being said, I was never an EXO fan, but I was active enough in the kpop scene in 2012-2016 to know about them and see their peak in popularity. And even as someone who only looks at them superficially I never really liked Kris. I don't know what it was but I tend to have severe cases of antipathy with some people without being able to pin it down. Most of the time I am right about those people (of course that doesn't mean I have to be or that everyone I don't have that feeling with is automatically a good person, but I never get surprised whenever I hear something like this about one of the people I didn't like in the first place). Exo really ended up being lucky he ran back to China with this one.
this is why stans esp kpop stans should stop infatilizing their idols or trying to keep them pure. theyre not. i have been a kpop fan for 10 years and i have seen more of these pure image delusion from the recent years due to younger fans coming in. theyre not an angel, theyre humans. theyre like us, they have their hidden side of themselves. fanatic idolizing is really toxic as it hinders people to see which is right or wrong bc theyre using the person who did the crime as a base for their argument. the person who they idolize, bc they think they cant do such thing. we have to wake up from this mindset. this is why some celebrities who did crimes think they can get away with it

As ironic as it is, the industry that is full of the brightest stars also has the darkest shadow. Whether his case is proven true or not later on, we all should acknowledge that the entertainment and fashion industry across the world is plagued by a culture of sexual abuse and power tripping.
That’s even more scandalous when his family’s involved in the crime. Cops should investigate his mom & management team
She's a mother and they'll do anything to protect their offspring. Just blind love
On the bright side I think this scandal is also a wakeup call to all young fans (especially female) in China, there should be a limit to how far you are supposed to idolize your favorite stars. Getting physical and selling yourself cheap in the name of affection and worship is proven hurtful.

I think this interview was crucial for international audience since for my part when this whole story got out i didn't understand correctly the reports about it. Like for me up until yesterday the chinese police was trying to find evidence of his crimes but now i know that they already found it and are investigating further into it. So i'm like dang, just Hope there were not too many young women who falled victims to him, one is already unforgivable
Hmm... Don't trust anyone who looks and act cute and good only on the surface don't trust stage personality nowadays people fantasise about Idols especially the kpop trend but you should not believe whatever they show you, you don't know how they are in real life...you can be their fans but don't ever engrave in your mind that your idol is worlds best person with a humble personality you don't know how they are in real life they are idol not, God they are not your friends or relative that you can blindly tell that how they are in real life and how good they are...
Okay, some people are saying he is detained not arrested so okay I am not saying that he is wrong but the thing I wrote above makes 100% sense whether he is guilty or not.
Actually, you are absolutely correct. If the police detained a person with out a valid evidence, that's against the law right! So, in other words their is a valid evidence and proof about his case. And the same time, there are many celebrities involved about this matter especially drugs.I have seen somewhere out there his name is mentioned (he was one of the costar of ZLY) he was a senior celebrity. There are many celebrities involved but still investigating.
So, let us see who will be the next idol in the limelight.🤭🤗

4:13 "average people with average shortcomings"
How can this be call average shortcomings?
Exactly he greatly minimized the severity of the crimes when he said that “average shortcomings”
No no. He was not referring to Kris, but more idols. They look gorgeous, but they are actually like average people, and have similar shortcomings.
恶习 (e xi) is not shortcoming, but disgusting shortcomings
It’s the problem with the translation.
@@2024-l9n Actually, what call my attention was that they said "average" people as if this is something common in the society. Like most of the people do this.
everyone in this interview was so eloquent and reasonable
I agree with you
this is why i hate getting easily attached to someone but I can't help it
Its hard when all you see of someone is positive messages, like they will only ever post footage of idols they have edited and made sure it's acceptable to consume. Pretty much anything is a lie to an extent, maybe not everything but tbh most. We know nothing about our celebrities of what kind of horrible things they are capable of, still go on stanning but keep it in mind I guess.
Do not focus on the positive aspects of a person, focus on the negatives, that'll shatter your rose colored glasses and helping you seeing the reality of things. If you like the negative side of him, then you'll love his postive side. In this case, Kris flushed his own career down the drain.
Same here.
@@ruinheart8769 not really helpful I would say.. it would be a negative way of seeing the life and might affect yourself
I always focus and look on the negative side of every person before but that ruined me so i tried to change it.(yes i hate getting easily attached but I'd rather see the positive side first)
Kris Wu's case is only about him feeling ENTITLED.
And I am disgusted that we made him feel ENTITLED.
I hate myself for liking such a person.
Don't feel so. We never knew what was going on behind the cameras. For me I admired his looks & was mostly the reason I became a fan of him. Even among his discography, I liked only 2 songs. Antares & Coffee. Yet I considered myself as his fan, but even I regret & feel disappointed now :/ I never expected him to be innocent or so, but this was really shocking to hear for me as r@pe isn't a joke. The celebrity industry in my country is pretty much corrupted, so I thought it'd be a bit different with other countries' celebs. Guess I was wrong. But anyways it's just kris I wouldn't gonna base all the chinese celebrity industry based on him, but I pray such disgusting celebs doesn't exist in the industry (and if they do then they should get rid of quickly)

I didn’t know China had a Me Too movement also.
Only when it's someone the Government doesn't like or care about. A former K-Pop star? Definitely not on the fave list.
The Me Too movement in the US was started in the entertainment industry, whereas the movement in China was started by university students who were harassed by school staff or professors. At first the government blocked any mentioned of me too on weibo, but chinese users still managed to get around the censorship.
“Me too” has been in years for years.

Hopefully the movement will get stronger even through the countries censorship since it’s just as prevalent there as it is in western countries

We really compare idols and actors to what they do in movies and what their character represents in a movie and we go on thinking "wow he saved a pregnant women's life by risking his own life in the movie"
And so we all think that actor is very nice but actually in real life they can be opposite...
We just have to move through pain if something bad happens and try to remedy the situation if we can, like, supporting victims and such
@@wellwell7429 you are so positive 💖 thank you but to be honest I am really shook. He disappointed us. 😞

Exo really ended up being lucky he ran back to China with this one.
exactly the moment i became an exol kris was never nvr had been my fav he had tht weird vibe and attitude
this is why stans esp kpop stans should stop infatilizing their idols or trying to keep them pure. theyre not. i have been a kpop fan for 10 years and i have seen more of these pure image delusion from the recent years due to younger fans coming in.
theyre not an angel, theyre humans. theyre like us, they have their hidden side of themselves. fanatic idolizing is really toxic as it hinders people to see which is right or wrong bc theyre using the person who did the crime as a base for their argument. the person who they idolize, bc they think they cant do such thing.
we have to wake up from this mindset. this is why some celebrities who did crimes think they can get away with it

In these cases related with victims, normalize siding with victims first until the alleged proven innocent. This is because it is never easy for victims to come out and share it to the world especially when they are against a big name (as big name also have big power)
isn't it "innocent until proven guilty" ?
What needs to be proved is that he is guilty, not the other way around.
I'm not supporting him, he is more than likely guilty, I'm just pointing out the law.
