The Pier, as it was affectionately known, was an iconic venue for dance music for over 40 years, and during the period when I was a regular, from the late 90s through to the early 2000s, it was a legendary hard house night. Sadly, it was demolished by 2015, after a series of piss poor financial decisions by rhe management which caused no end of problems for the club, and once the nightclub scene began to tail off in the mid 2000s, The fate of Wigan Pier nightclub was effectively sealed. Northern Englands' club scene has almost ceased to exist, and if it wasnt for the die-hards and club owners who refuse to accept defeat, I'm pretty sure there wouldnt be any clubs left at all. Its heart wrenching to see how quickly the pub and club scene has died off, in just 10-15 years. I'm nearly 40, and when I was in my late teens, hardcore nights were HUGE, and routinely drew crowds of over 5000. Then through the early to mid 2000s, house music was at its peak, and tou could literally drive to ANY city in england, and over the weekend you would have your pick of clubs and pubs to call in at, and you could guarantee there would be a decent crowd. Music was our thing for those those of us who came of age in the mid 90s. it was EVERYWHERE, 7 days a week, in every town and city across england. Now it's all gone. Its heartbreaking, but tracks like this remind me of those nights when it felt like the entire world was smashing out shapes right along with you 😁😁😁 Happy days
