    What's happening in Syria is historic. Syria was a Russian close asset since the cold war Soviet times. It became even more important in recent years when Iran joined the BRICS alliance. With Iran help Russia had open passage through Caspian sea into Iran, Iraq and then into Syria basically into Mediterranean basin and further into Africa. Now this open corridor is blocked and there's no safety for Russian military bases in Tartus and Letakia.

    • @HuskyOwner-bl1jf
      @HuskyOwner-bl1jf 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +4

      Depending on how things go with the new Syrian government
      Russia may very well lose not only access to the Mediterranean, but also their easy access to support their forces in Africa
      Iran will find it much more difficult to support its proxy's Hamas and Hezbollah against Israel
      It may also affect their ability to support the Houthi as well
      If Syria doesn't go full terrorist state it may actually create an avenue for peace in the Middle East with a reduction in the influence of Russia and Iran in the region

    I have a theory that the fall of the Asad regime in Syria may actually help Ukraine. Trump likes people who can make Trump look good. That's why he loves dictators: they're "Strong Men" and Trump gains Street Credit based on association with them. But the collapse of Syria makes Putin look weak. Meanwhile, it wasn't lost on Trump that Zelensky got an extended standing ovation at the unveiling of the rebuilt Notre Dam. Trump may decide that hanging out with Zelensky may make Trump look better ...

    The only plus point about Times Radio's "Teletubby" repetition thing is that you can listen to the first few moments without bothering with the rest.

      By a jealous ex president trying to get back a the people that won the election in 2016. Now that he was re-elected good luck explaining why you gave up a trillion dollar air force base.

      No. Why not? Afghanistan was a burden with negligible benefit and great cost. No one needs Afghanistan except Afghans. It was a false target for the USA. Syria used to be a huge asset for Putin and the USSR before him. The way we pulled out lacked grace but should have been done sooner. What has been embarrassing since the 70s was that we never pushed hard enough for the Kurds. Also embarrassing is that we have been appeasing Moscow for ages. Clearly, that does not work!
      What we *say* is Putin's agenda has been on the front burner for whomever was in Moscow for centuries. Our weakness began with Truman...

      It’s different. Syria was the only place in the world Russia controlled, outside of neighboring puppet states. It made them some « world power ».
      Now, they are just a regional power.
      Afghanistan made no difference in the status of the countries that intervened there.

    Once Putin decided to terrorize with his "new" missile. The cards were played and he lost more than he gambled for.
