@@mikeb8138 you would think something so simple wouldn't be overlooked. i love FWF and Bon Appetit, if you like them and their camera work i highly recommend James Andrews and Insider Food. James has really great shots of the plates and he often dines at tasting menus so each short 9-12 min video is perfect if you are eating a quick bite. Inside Food doesnt have the visual flair but definitely has the production value and great shots of the food with explanations of ingredients. Their tours playlist is the only one worth watching the others are viral youtube click bait UK v US. Anyways i agree it makes this poor man's pizza look old and out of the 80s lol. Hope you get a chance to at least check out James and have a great 2025
I knew a professional food photographer, they don't really photo food. For instance a bowl of cereal is corn flakes in Elmer's glue. cut them some slack they're photoing real food truck food on the street not a staged ad campaign.
Are you kidding me? Jerk chicken pizza??? GIMME I will actually be in the Cayman Islands in two weeks off of my cruise! If I get enough time, I have got to try this place.
I grew up on Detroit Style Pizza. Loui’s is the best, Cloverleaf 2nd and Buddy’s fell off. Those are the 3 original places. That said, his pizzas look 🔥
100% back this for the Big 3. But the best is at a 1 off Mom-n-Pop in the "far north" suburb of Ortonville called Papa Bella's. The old best was a dive bar called Mr Ed's in Detroit. They're long gone but PB's somehow recreates that pizza and it's perfection. Crust is chewier and less airy and it shouldn't work so well but it totally does. It's a drive for me, and carry-out only but if ever a pizza was worth eating in the car or at a picnic table it's theirs.
@ I agree with you on the chewier crust. That’s how I remember Cloverleaf in the 80’s and 90’s. Bucemis deserves a honorable mention too. I live “far south” now in Naples FL but luckily for me there’s a place called Matthews Pizza Kitchen that has DSP just as good as the Big 3. He’s a Detroiter too and I’ll drive a hour just to pick up a pizza when I get the itch
I'm from Europe and Detroit style pizza is the goat for me. I love Neapolitana and will forever find it the best meal ever created but when it comes to guilty pleasure there's nothing like Detroit style pizza. This baby destroys NY style in any situation
If you fill right about what you want to do to better yourself and your business you do.when everyone works together as a team who understands what it takes.
imagine doing this small business dirty with no color grading properly... i really liked munchies but im starting to reconsider what i spend my time watching.
People have mentioned the colour grading, someone needs to fix the audio also, very very bass heavy, hard to understand people without turning sound way up.
As someone who previously did short format TH-cam docs for a non-profit, I suspect the color is desaturated because the difference in light source color temperature between the fluorescent lights in the truck and direct sunlight outside. if given more time and budget, they probably could give this to a professional colorist more finely balanced the color, but most TH-cam vids of this format have a very small budget and short turn around time. it looks like they had a single camera crew, natural lighting, and may have even been a contracted videographer. I imagine the editor did the best he could to make the footage seem consistent with the deadline given.
If only it was a small company not a million dollar one. Don’t suck ass when not money but talent is the issue. Even if they hired someone that would most likely make them from the region, therefore knowing how to take videos with that lighting. Stop saying a million dollar company didn’t have enough money so they hired someone else(not an employee) however the video looks like shit regardless… so your saying they hired a random videographer instead of in house and then accepted this? Nah nah nah nah. What position you or a friend have at the company. There no excuse for this to pass 2-3 people this is shit so I won’t watch… idgaf about Dre George Ginny or whoever made this. The fact is it’s shit, was seen as shit, and was tried to be passed off as “this will do” when no it won’t bad media company practices if anything you said if true. Edit:”nonprofit” is exactly what I think of when I see a sponsorship from the Cayman Islands hmmm???!?!?? lmfao what happen to the regulars with a salary… fuck I can go on and on. This is a profit company
@ oh for sure VICE sucks. they laid off a huge portion of their staff 1-2 years ago becuase the company wasn’t “meeting its goals”. i’m mostly trying to be kind to the production team that worked on this. not the larger company.the team that was given this assignment was probably cut down and stringed out on budget and manpower. it’s why companies like eater and Bon appetite and food 52 have taken over food journalism and munchies has fallen to the wayside
Not knocking this guy it just so happened to make me think. EVERYONE says we use the freshest ingredients, thats what makes our food so good. Who is out there using rotten ingredients?
When the chef from the Caymens knows the sauce goes above the cheese but Detroit chains like Jets, Howies and Caesars can't be bothered to build it properly you get saddened by the fact that someone +/-1500 miles away has more respect for local culture than the people buying soggy shit and thinking they like Detroit-style pizza in metro-Detroit. And with Jet's being the worst version they are of course the chain we are exporting to the nation. As we did with Dominos. And Caesars. Ever had a bad/mediocre pizza made in a commercial kitchen? Thank Detroit. Ever had the 2nd best pizza style in the US? Thank Detroit. Weird dichotomy my city.
Color mix on this video is hideous. Makes the amazing place, people and food look bland. I'm from the D and this was instant sadness. Please fix it and reupload, the pizza should look rich and shiny, wtf are you doing.
Deep dish used to be deep with lots of toppings and still regular bottom crust. modern deep dish is just cheap thick dough with the same amount of toppings. garbage!
Color grading kinda important for food videos. Don't do the Caribbean dirty, fix and reupload.
Definitely.... Poor color grading makes all the menu items look flat.....
its crazy that munchies hasn't learned to film food right after all these years. first we feast and bon appetit make food look amazing
omg thanks for saying this, i also felt that this is very dull and didn't do justice for the chef

The camera color is way off lol
The colors are so washed. Needs more contrast or saturation.
Came for this comment. Why is the saturation on this video awful.
Probably straight log ungraded
I bet they used AI to edit 😂
facts
Did someone forget to colour grade this?!
Yep. Sorry. F- 😂
I was about to comment that you're being just picky but yeah.. it does look weirdly raw actually.
I've been to D's as its literally right outside of my university, and I love their pizzas! My favorite is the Chili Garlic Shrimp. So good 😋!
This video color grading could be better, it's so washed and doesn't capture the vibrant color of the Caribbean.
it is awkwardly washed
That one guy saying they're from nyc and love nyc pizza then whip out ranch LOL
great work, muchies, presenting this heartwarming anecdote based on the source of life, love, and peace on earth - pizza.
D’s Nuts!
Shoutout from Detroit lfg Lions!
Lions suck 😂
Well deserved, keep continuing to win thank you for the inspiration ✌🏾
Are you kidding me? Jerk chicken pizza??? GIMME
I will actually be in the Cayman Islands in two weeks off of my cruise! If I get enough time, I have got to try this place.

Even though the colour is off, those pizzas still looked damn great. Is it worth spending 1 grand flying to the Cayman Islands for this pizza?
D's Pizza in reggae music I'm sold

The thumbnail is very colourful but the video is gray asf 😢
Going in April, adding this to my list 😍

This is how to make pizza in the Cayman Islands!!! I want it, I am coming Chef Smith!!!!!!!!! And sorry no slight, CHEF Jose!!!!!!!!!!
He should start a nut store and call it D's Nuts.
Would love to see you guys in Detroit.
I agree with everyone else, the color grading is nonexistent, things look dull/greyed out a bit
This comment is a advertisement for war chickens.

Loved this but needs re uploading with the colour sorted

I'm from Europe and Detroit style pizza is the goat for me. I love Neapolitana and will forever find it the best meal ever created but when it comes to guilty pleasure there's nothing like Detroit style pizza. This baby destroys NY style in any situation

Not knocking this guy it just so happened to make me think. EVERYONE says we use the freshest ingredients, thats what makes our food so good. Who is out there using rotten ingredients?
Buddys is Detroit style pizza.
I’m sure this place is influenced by them with its own spin on it
Buddy's is mediocre now, cloverleaf, Loui's, and Detroit style pizza company are the real deal
Bueeeeeena
Adding soy sauce to get to umami flavour. Got youu
This is what Noma (one of the best restaurants in the world) use on their Bolognese :)
way better than the dung cooked meat.
They definitely need a nut flavored pizza and call it D's nuts Pizza.
Straight log need some spice in coloring 😂😂😂 😅
d's nutz

nah the Detroit style with the cheese on top is better
Mexico is yellow, horror movies are black and blue, and the Caribbean is pale and shadow-less. Also, turn down that obnoxious music.
Toy
Where color
What in the gloomy 80's shot is this...
Color mix on this video is hideous. Makes the amazing place, people and food look bland. I'm from the D and this was instant sadness. Please fix it and reupload, the pizza should look rich and shiny, wtf are you doing.
