I think the author of Mushoku Tensei wrote him like that intentionally for character growth. they also bring that up as a plot point in Volume 7 of the book.
@@valexmx0629 there's actually a charicter arc spanning basically all of what will probably be season 2 (book 7-12) covering Rudeus' abilitys and lack there of in some aspects... Also how ridiculously unfathomabley powerful the Dragon God Orsted truly is
