      @@firepuppies4086 The fact that David Yost himself was a main character in the season where said lesbian couple went from 'a ranger and her girlfriend' to 'two rangers who are girlfriends' presumably means that he's being treated at bear minimum with the professional courtesy that every actor should get. And it was so nice to see them pivot him into the mentor-lite role. Because its a completely logical evolution of where he was when Yost parted ways.
      That he wrote and played a leading role in The Netflix movie (the on targeted at adult fans) implies that he had a strong influence on the show towards the 'end' of the franchise (though we'll see if this ending actually sticks, I kind of doubt it) and might very well still have quite a bit.
      Billy's time on the show rivals Tommy, and given he was harassed by other staff to the point of contemplating suicide: its not hard to infer a serious devotion to the show (because it can't have been the money, he was notoriously paid fast food money as a main character & I doubt that improved when he was shunted to a side character role...)
      ~~~
      Serious non-Power Rangers stuff starts here:
      Still one need only type New Florida Legislation into the search bar to see just how badly some people want to go back to the days that nearly cost a young man his life -that did cost many other just that, and caused an incredible amount of pain and trauma to countless more. We live in a world where teachers are being told to take standard non-pride rainbows down from their classrooms because they don't want to run afoul of new draconian laws to try and keep any hint of queerness away from children; the sinister rivival of the gay=pedo stereotype coming with the renewed pearl clutching over the old 'gay recruitment' conspiracy theory. Also, even before this bile all reared its ugly head: The U.S. still has no national guarantees against housing discrimination on the basis of sexuality or gender identity (same goes for services, one well known example being the refusal by certain establishments to make a wedding cake for queer couples)
      That said, in the 1970s, if you were caught at a gay club: they put your name in the paper. You were fired, *severely* ostracized & all your professional licenses were rescinded (regardless if you were lawyer, a doctor, a freakin' hairdresser). And a lot of people didn't think this would really change, not in their lifetime. Then came Stonewall. Then came Pride. Then came AIDS, the CDC being basically told to sit on their hands and look pretty while people died. Then came the AIDS quilt, an outpouring of collective grief on the national maul captured for all the world to see. And even before then, Activism, there since the beginning, it had roared to life at Stonewall, but AIDS? Well, I can't imagine what learning people would rather I just die rather than have to deal with me existing, but it left one hell of an impression on the Gay Rights movement.
      It has been bad, its been inhumanly bad. It's an honest to god miracle we're where we are now with gay rights. One we should be proud of as a society. But we cannot rest on that, there are people who want the bad old times back & too many of them are willing to take drastically undemocratic measures to 'protect the children' from a more loving and accepting society. We need to protect what we have achieved and continue confronting the inequities and injustices of society as they show themselves.
    Of the post-Zordon era, I'll argue this was the peak of Power Rangers, Lost Galaxy was them trying out new stuff, Lightspeed Rescue was the writing team applying what they learned from Lost Galaxy, and Time Force is the culmination of it all, in fact, I'm happy to argue those 3 seasons are like a trifecta of greatness, specially because of how far it removed Power Rangers from "teenagers with attitude", my personal bias is that there's far more storytelling potential when the Rangers are adults, or young adults at least.
    About the DNA stuff, given how babies are customized in the future with "perfect DNA", there's a chance Alex is more of a clone rather than a descendant, wich makes sense, Wes is a pretty formidable person, in the original timeline is likely his DNA was preserved because he did great at running Biolabs, then in the altered timeline his DNA got enhanced thanks to becoming a Power Ranger, hence why Alex goes from Red Ranger, to straight up Cpt Logan's superior. (also why Alex is not concerned about Wes dying fighting Ransik)
    My only guess about the Rangers damaging the timeline is how by creating new events, they are erasing old ones, kind of like Back to the Future, the timeline changing into choices that weren't made means events that lead into the birth of certain people never happen, like say, discovering futuristic things like the crystals erase the existance of the person who will discover them a few hundred years later.
    Overall I have a big soft spot for Time Force because it really started pushing how far writing could go for a kids show without crossing any lines, it has it's flaws, but the acting of the whole cast and the storytelling are strong enough to overlook them.
    Btw... It's amazing what a new microphone does to these videos, lol
But then a kid I was babysitting who was super into everything Power Rangers wanted to watch his first Time Force tape with me, and I was immediately sucked in. It was honestly so great and enjoyable, well-written and acted, with a gripping plot.
      And even after I’ve since seen all of Power Rangers before and after it, it’s still my favorite. Although I do also especially have a soft spot for In Space, Lightspeed Rescue, Ninja Storm, and DinoThunder, they still don’t compare to Time Force for me.       While I know the show was a near excact translation of Timeranger, I think that works in favor of the show, because they managed to rework certain elements around it and made it work out, specially with how well they manage to stand on their own compared to the Sentai side.
      A good example of this working to the detriment of the show was with Samurai, it's a great case stufy of things being lost in translation, where rather than accomodate the cultural context for the Japanese elements, they simply removed them and left a half-baked idea.
    Ayase (Lucas's original Sentai counterpart) suffered from an incurable heart disease from the future (called Osiris Syndrome). This disease was tied to a lot of his moments during the show, so Time Force cutting this part of the character (which in my mind they had to because of TV producing having an issue for that detail for a children's show), it ended up leaving Lucas without any kind of story or characterization beyond what is shown
    Vrax's character feels like the darkest Power Rangers got
    1. Was originally a human who was just trying to help Ransik only to nearly get killed by the very person he saved
    2.While he managed to survive, he was a death door with the only way to keep himself alive was to transform himself to a complete robot. Process pretty much left him rather insane
    3. Instead of the show pulling magical solution to return him to human, instead not only did Ransik find him and reprogrammed him into a servant but in the end he ends up dying. Yea. Just lying on the ground, face fulls apart, and dies. All on screen. Pretty gruesome honestly. Especially by this shows standards.
    Another little detail I like about the Helmets is that that visors look like stylized clock hands. From what I remember Time Force was a pretty decent show with good characters and on reflection tries to add a little bit of grey to the morality at play from both the Rangers and Ransik/Frax. Though again not as much as a kids show could go into back then but it still shines though, Eric trying to outright kill the minor criminal mutant, Ransik's discrimination, Alex's shady as hell actions (though trimmed down from his Sentai counterpart who apparently became the final boss, but I haven't seen Timeranger so I could be wrong on that part) Dr Farrax's fate and madness as Frax it's well done for its time pun unintended. So if you can get your hands on this series go for it and of course may the power protect you.
If the future apparently is using technology to alter the DNA of their kids to be "perfect", that makes it even WEIRDER that Alex and Wes had enough in common genetically for the morpher to recognize Wes. Strange coincidence that she actually DID die in a drunk-driving accident 6 years later
      EDIT: Correction, it apparently was caused by loose gravel, not intoxication, I was wrong about that bit.
      Also random tidbit of tangentially-related information: Austin St. John is a stage name. His real name is Jason Geiger, which makes him (to the best of my knowledge) the only Power Rangers actor to share a first name with his character.
      Actually, there are a LOT of Jasons in Power Rangers. Counting the red ranger and all actors, there were 4 Jasons in MMPR (Jason Lee Scott, his actor, Jason David Frank, and Jason Narvy), and there have been 7 others since then (including the reboot version of the red ranger Jason).
    I always found it funny Eric was supposed to die like his Sentai counterpart. On the one hand it makes sense, and I do somewhat feel it would’ve been a fitting end (Sacrificing himself to save his rival), but ultimately I feel letting him live was the right choice.
    Eric deliberately took steps to improving himself: He grew past his grudge against Wes, stopped being an arrogant jackass, and overall just became a better person. Meanwhile Naoto is almost the complete opposite: He starts out a bit less of a dick (Not much but his grudge against Taysuya is at least somewhat more understandable), but as time went on his envy and greed got the better of him and pulled some decidedly scummy stuff in the last 10 or so episodes. His death is ultimately still a tragedy (He was in the end nothing but a unknowing pawn in other people’s plans and died a quiet, undignified death after one of his few acts of genuine kindness) but it’s hard to say he didn’t have it coming.
    That’s kinda what makes Time Force Vs Timeranger kinda interesting to me: The two shows are, at first glance, very similar, but an actual inspection of both shows how different their focuses are. I love them both each for their own reasons however, with Time Force in particular deserving credit as the show that brought me back to watching the franchise after I was considering quitting watching it when it ended up being reaired in Argentina (I did quit it eventually during the Nickelodeon era though.   • @jacenskywalker507
    Time Force was the greatest season and my favorite season to me.
    I always thought of a scenario that, after the Time Force/Wild Force team-up, Reinforcements from the Future, the Time Force officers return back to 3001 and Alex notices that they, although happy to see Wes again, are sad that they again had to say goodbye to Wes.
    Alex then calls the Rangers into his office and informs them that they're being given a rare exception that they can travel back to and live their lives in 2002, and that they're gonna be given reissued old style documents for their new identities that they can then enter into the system when they arrive in the past.
    Before the Rangers leave his office, Alex first requests that Jen produce a blood sample, and also follows up by saying that Lucas, Katie, and Trip will also have to produce a blood sample themselves, so as to not make it suspicious about why only Jen would have to produce a blood sample. When questioned about what the blood is for, Alex explains that they (Time Force) will need to examine the sample to make sure that they and their immune systems were healthy enough to stay in the past permanently, so they won't accidentally bring some illness back in time and infect the population before whatever time the vaccinated cure was created.
    They're then sent to the labs and have a sample extracted from each of them. After that, they then return to stay in provided quarters where they'll wait for the analysis to be completed and they can then leave for 2002. Hopefully the next day.
    Back with Alex, he asks a scientist if he can examine Jen's blood sample while the scientists examine Lucas', Katie's, and Trip's. Alex sits down at an examination station and, hoping that his suspicions are confirmed about why Wes and Jen are compatible with and love one another, extracts a blood sample from himself.
    Alex then places both vials of blood, marked "J. Scotts" and "A. Drake", within a device in the lab and activates it. It turns out the device is a DNA identifier and Alex awaits it to complete the identification process. After a few seconds, the identifier's screen displays that both their DNA is practically identical with only a slight percentage difference.
    Alex then realizes that Wes and Jen were always meant to be together and why Jen needed to go back to the past. He realizes that he's actually Wes' and Jen's descendant, and if Jen doesn't go back then history will be altered. They won't get married, they won't have children, and then those children's descendants, including himself, will never be born.
    He then decides to not tell Jen that he's actually her and Wes' descendant, and instead chooses to let Jen live her life with the man she loves.
    After that Jen and the others return to the past where Wes and Jen get married, have a son, and the bloodline is preserved where that son and his wife then have kids which then continues all the way to Alex's birth. And time is then stuck in an endless, eternal loop where Ransik escapes, Jen and company go back to 2001, and the whole cycle repeats again and again and again.
    That's how it went in both my mind and heart. That's how my fancanon and headcanon went.
    Something that made both Time Force and Wild Force a special part of my childhood were the villains. Compared to the goofy ones we grew up with like Rita and Divatox (and even Zedd got sillier as time went on), having this genuine scary, powerful gangster who is all deviousness and brawl with a touching backstory and then Master Ogre, played by Illia Volok, was a CHILL-INDUCING villain. He had PRESENCE. Like Snape or a Dalek, something that dominates the focus, leaves no doubt of his power and evil intentions, and on both Ransik and Master Ogre, their costumes and make up were *chefs kiss* perfect. I especialy loved how Master Ogre gave me the image of an hourglass, with his dusty, sand-coloured robes and crystal ball staff, like he is the harbinger of an incoming doom. It's also fun to notice that after Rita and the Machine Empire, the americanization of Power Rangers decided to make 100% original villains, since now we can see the actors's full face and they are not japanese and speaking full english. Plus they can be much more threatening now that we can see their faces and they are less and less goofy.
    Also I think Eric planning on leaving during the whole Wes taking over his father’s company thing was to do with it being a reminder for him that no matter how hard he works Wes still gets pushed higher than him just because he’s rich and privileged. He says it in the finale, that he’s had to fight for everything he’s achieved but he sees Wes as someone who just gets everything handed to him. It’s kind of an overt “predestination VS free will” thing, that Eric tried to shape his destiny but Wes had his chosen. Ultimately though as Wes points out, just because they’re from different walks of life they both did choose to shape their own destinies, and that’s why Eric finally comes around in the finale because he realised he was wrong.
He didn’t feel accepted by the Rangers as he wouldn’t even visit them in the Clock Tower voluntarily until events in “A Calm Before the Storm” forced him to.     Also to point this out, there were also audio edits to some of the episodes. 1 being pretty major because not only does it include some of the visual edits, using alternate angles, but it had Ransik's actor recording ADR to censor the original line he said in an episode where he threatens the city. There were a decent amount of changes to the season from what I've read due to them needing to re-edit a lot of the older episodes pre-9/11 to be suitable to rerun on TV. In fact, the episodes were unfortunately not saved in their original forms, so Shout Factory & digital platforms that have the episodes in their censored forms. And while, yes, most of the episodes were completed before 9/11, it doesn't stop the fact that these edits happened. Some people have VHS recordings of the original versions of the episodes that were censored, but they're not widely available.
    It’s worth noting some of the Sentai stuff that does make it into this show and the most I have is on Eric.
    Now Daniel Southworth who plays him had auditioned for other ranger roles prior but was unsuccessful, what finally landed him Eric was his resemblance to Shinji Kasahara who played Naoto Takizawa his sentai counterpart in fact during his first morph as the explosions are happening thats Naoto not Eric due to stock footage, in 2001 that wouldn’t have been the most noticed due to TV quality but nowadays yeah it’s easily noticed.
    On the note of that Morph it’s the only time the word Fire is seen on the Morpher this is again leftover footage, as Takizawa’s ranger designation was Timefire (with the regular Rangers being Timered, Timeblue etc), and notably in the sentai every time there was a morph he would throw away his hat and shout at the top of his lungs “TIME FIRE”.
    Also in the sentai Takizawa was not the only Timefire he was the second one unlike Eric who is the only seen Quantum Ranger.
    I think the moment when the rangers are about to have their memories erased should have been like this:
    Jen:. No, everything we went through in the last, everything we experienced is part of who we are as people, and who we are as Rangers. Especially everything we experienced with Wes. Those memories, those experiences made us better Rangers, they made us better people... I don't want to lose that. *Looks to the other Rangers, they are all in agreement with Jens sentiments*. None of us do.
    That would have made more sense than the nonsense Jen spouted.
    You are so good at analyzing these seasons I'm still waiting for the day Hasbro makes you the producer and main showrunner for the power rangers franchise you've earned it
      Database Ranger should hold that title TBH. His photographic memory of the franchise is insane! He has to host the trivia contest at Power Morphicon because it would be cheating if he actually participated (I'm sort of exaggerating ofc, he volunteers at PMC)
    I can safely say that Time Force is one of my favorite seasons in the entirety of the Power Rangers franchise. It's one of the more darker seasons, yet it never loses that signature Power Rangers charm (it also aired in the year I was born).
    It amuses me that Gluto, the dim henchman that Linkara forgot about, was the big bad of Timeranger. That's an interesting reuse of a character suit, to say the least.
      Now I really want to watch Timeranger just to see what the heck was going on.
      Furio from Lost Galaxy was the final form of the final villain in Megaranger (In Space).
      Quarganon in this season (Super Demon from teamup) is an upgraded form of Jinxer's counterpart.
      This sort of thing happens quite a bit.
