    Gord Martineau, the best tv news anchor Toronto ever had. To bad city tv after many years of bringing Toronto the news, they gave Gord the shaft. Not even a thank you, retirement sendoff. Ever since Gord retired. City News has become a laughing stock. Oh and moms in the city really miss him, especially mine😊

    This was not the only time Toronto had riots like this, a similar disaster occured on September 2 1991, the final day of when the rides close down at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) and on December 31 1991 for Citytv's annual New Year's Eve Bash.

    Lol this is because rodney king? It's a different country with different cops

    • @James-nv1wf
      @James-nv1wf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it was because of the killings of Donaldson, Lawson, and Lawrence and the cops who killed them getting off without charges. It just happened around the same time.

  • @KardiFan2000
    @KardiFan2000 14 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    @anjet148 It started out as a peaceful protest (supporting Rodney King)...but some kids in the crowd got out of hand.

    I was also about a year old when that happened. I'm still confused about what this was about, but honestly, I don't think riots will work for someone's cause. Riots just cause more tension, and the innocent people who would suffer from them would be discourage to do anything to help those who started the riot.

      You would have to be at least a teenager during those times to understand. The way that black people were policed was way different than the rest of society. When the Rodney King beating was video tapes it was as if was Toronto's cops beating one of our own.

      @TheAlphaOmega wow! My comment hasn’t age well!! 😅 I was in my teens when I wrote that. I was living in a bubble thinking that we were in a post-racial society (the “I see no color” crowd). My perspective has changed over time; a key moment for me was when I saw how race riots were portrayed compare to sports riots. A Twitter user showed that anti-black racism protesters were portrayed as thugs where as (predominantly white) sports rioters were portrayed as “passionate fans”.

  • @ALuimes

    The rioters were not for the most part, protesters, just hooligans looking for an excuse just like they did in Montreal when the Habs beat the Bruins. They actually tried to start more riots the next 2 nights.

    Ah the good old days! I was a Metro copper working that night. A "city wide assist" call went out and every available unit in the city headed down to 52 Division for this. Good times! I was standing right beside the Molotov Cocktail that was thrown. Duty Inspector Bob Molyneux was on scene, and put a stop to this rampage (if you know what I mean) Different times, different tactics.A fun night was had by all!!

    I think this anarchy must have been from the Rodney King Verdict in Los Angles U.S.A. back in 1992. Imagine being in Los Angles they had even more anarchy then we had in Toronto.

    Hard to imagine. Oddly during the 93 and 93 world series celebrations there was no looting. I hope it doesn't happen again.

    I honestly wish something like this would happen again in the city. I doubt it'll happen again since nowadays everyone seems scared of everyone else in this city, and people would rather stay in the comfort of their own homes than participate in something like this...it's as if people have lost their authenticity, and just care about themselves now

    Thanks.
    Now, I'm not the one suddenly changing the subject or creating a red herring to weasel out of accounting for the original question.
    "starving millions of human beings"
    Show proof.
    "And what kind of understanding could such a person have about the world around them? "
    Obviously much better than yourself, since I make it a point of study everyday, instead of just imagining secret societies that control everything, I investigate reality.

    I didn't realize we in Toronto had a riot. I think its kind of cool but I mean, if this is in response to the Rodney King thing, then its really random to destroy Canadian shops, when its an American issue.

    "Explain to me please how a black person in Toronto is not given equal political, economic and human rights?"
    If you used any class analysis to think about it, you would be able to come to some sort of conclusion on your own, at least. Perhaps you should look at the statistics, Black people and income vs. white people, how many are in jail, where they live, etc. or like a typical closet racist do you think they are pre-genetically disposed to being criminals?

    I am not interested in your NWO conspiracies, which unfortunately seem to be popular these days, perhaps because it's easier then actually studying historical materialism and the development of capitalism, making class analysis, etc.... I don't know. I'm not sure what you mean by "specialized victimhood" if you can clarify on that I'll answer.
