- A group of six Romanians are doing a shell game street scam scheme in Norway, Oslo.
The shell game (also known as thimblerig, three shells and a pea, the old army game) is portrayed as a gambling game, but in reality, when a wager for money is made, it is almost always a confidence trick used to perpetrate fraud. In confidence trick slang, this swindle is referred to as a short-con because it is quick and easy to pull off.
In the shell game, three or more identical containers (which may be cups, shells, bottle caps, or anything else) are placed face-down on a surface. A small ball is placed beneath one of these containers so that it cannot be seen, and they are then shuffled by the operator in plain view.
One or more players are invited to bet on which container holds the ball - typically, the operator offers to double the player's stake if they guess right. Where the game is played honestly, the operator can win if he shuffles the containers in a way which the player cannot follow.
In practice, however, the shell game is notorious for its use by confidence tricksters who will typically rig the game using sleight of hand to move or hide the ball during play and replace it as required. Fraudulent shell games are also known for the use of psychological tricks to convince potential players of the legitimacy of the game - for example, by using shills or by allowing a player to win a few times before beginning the scam.

Real short version: They would not be out on the street doing this if they lost money at it. (Same as big, fancy casinos wouldn't be built if they lost money.)
Slightly short version: Never play the other person's game. The player has been playing for possibly their whole life, and you have been watching for a whole minute.

my mom told me she got into it after one of the "group" lend her some money to start playing,
at start she won so the next step was to double the winning, but my mom just was walking out with the easy win when they grab her and force to give back money....
years later I saw a "group" of tricksters and I thougth about the thing happened to my mom

@@hawilost thx pal, since my mom left the money everything flew good, this is a thing to think about, as in the nature you have the law: anything goes to reach the best result with less effort, to leave the money was the fastest way to handle that predicament and my not doing anything in adultness is the same.

But what if you do the following. Since he obviously hides the ball in his hand so he can manipulate from which cup the ball is going to come out. When he asks where is the ball can't you go turn over two of the cups and say "the ball is neither in this cup nor in this cup which leaves the only possible position of the ball to be in the only cup that is not turned over" this way he has to pretend like the ball is really there because if he doesn't do it everyone which isn't on the scam will see that its a scam. Never tried it but its a possible solution to fuck up someone that scams like this.
The best way to hassle them is simply to take out your phone and start filming them. They will fold and move on.

Nah man, the people who won it were also scammers. He always switches the cups right when the actual tourists walk up to select their cup. That or he takes the ball up in his hand when they walk up. Sometimes they’ll even bait a tourist by letting them win the first time with little to no money so they think it’s easy. But then they just baited the tourist for more gambling

2 things: The older lady in the purple jacket, the lady in the black jacket and the guy in the black leather jacket are part of the scam, because at the 4:18 mark when they switch locations, all three are there.
