...that extra iron on the binding, to make the X Marks the Spot... oh my goodness, why have I never thought to do that? This is why I love your channel and videos! You have a thinking out of the box brain...that can figure out all the fabric goodness for us...then we can just watch your videos, and practice what you have already learned to do! Love it! Happy Canada Day! From beautiful Fraser Valley, B.C., Canada!❤
I've never done single-fold binding before, maybe because I haven't made much that would be displayed and not washed. This was a very thorough and plainly explained tutorial. Thanks!
This joining technique is brilliant!!! It works like a charm every time!! I started using this technique when I was brand new to quilting and now, many projects later, it is still the technique I use, every time!! Beautiful joins every time!
This video would have been great for when I started quilting bavk in the early '80s when there were next to nothing for me to find as information on quilting. I was self-taught and did everything like you, except I used double thread. I feel like my great grandmother must have given me her talents as she was self-taught as well. I love your videos. I wish I could still quilt, financial issue have no longer allowed me to, but i still love watching the videos. I also always hand quilted, I'm just not a fan of machine quilting, which reminds me of a blanket.
Hand binding holds a happy little place in my heart. It's not used too often by me but it is used when I'm making a quilt full of love for a grandchild. Thanks for the reasoning behind single and double binding!
I have worked hard to master machine binding, but hand binding is my jam! Joining my binding with your x marks the spot method has been such a pleasure since learning a few months ago. Thanks for your videos.
Thank you for the "X marks the spot" trick! I've not seen that before and of course, I need to go watch Binding like a Boss (which I go find next!). I have bound many quilts using this method of 1-1/2" strips. For me its a time saver. I do have arthritis, but prefer pins over the clips.
You learn something new every day! I love hand stitching the binding to the back. I use very tiny whip stitches. I do like your method of using a blind stitch, kind of reminds me of a ladder stitch. I hadn’t seen the x marks the spot tip before. Thanks.
Oh my gosh I can’t wait to put binding on my finished pieces 😂yes I say pieces cause there’s multiple as I hate the binding process but this looks so manageable ❤ THANK YOU!!
Such a great video. I recently made such a hash of a wall hanging binding. The wall hanging was beautiful and it looked like a first grader did the binding. :)
Always appreciate your videos! You are such a pleasure, I’ve learned so much from you. Binding is not my favorite but I no longer dread the task. Thank you!!😊🤗
how do you secure the ends of the machine quilting? I do FMQ and try to avoid backstitching, or the machine knot stitch....instead I have brought my 2 threads to top, and later thread them onto a needle bring to back, and then tie a knot, but 2 threads don't disappear into the backing.
I do not worry about it. I know people who bury knots like you do. I have "unpicked quilting" (I have a quilt machine) and it is NOT an easy thing to do. Those stitched are pretty firmly in place. So...I start at the edge of the quilt hope for no breakage as my "1st" plan. Then, if I run out of thread or if there is breakage..... I sew on top of my stitches, or secure the thread with the reverse button and zoom into quilting.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for watching!
Very informative. I’ve never seen anything like this method
Thank you for sharing.
Awesome funny how we just keep doing what we were originally taught - this is a great option love to have a use for narrower strips as well

Wonderful!
I have really enjoyed watching your videos! Just started making a quilt first timer 😮
Wonderful!
I have a binding method with the folded corner clipper that I’ve used for years BUT wish I had know about your ironing method prior. That is genius.
It is so fun to watch how you do things just a bit differently from me. Makes me want to try it your way! Thanks.
Love your joining method! Thank you!
I wish I did this method on my latest Christmas wall hanging. Next time. Thank you.
Next time!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience ❤
Any time!

This is the most understandable tutorial I have seen yet! Thanks so much for helping me see exactly how this is done.
Great to hear!
Such a great video. I recently made such a hash of a wall hanging binding. The wall hanging was beautiful and it looked like a first grader did the binding. :)
We are extra hard on ourselves. It's okay. The learning curve is real!!

What a wonderful tutorial! The binding method is amazing. I don’t usually hand bind but this method sure make it look easy. 🙏🏻
Beautiful quilt! Thank you for sharing this binding technique!
You are so welcome!
Wonderful information. Thanks!
Our pleasure!
This is so helpful! Thank you!
I LOVE every video you release, Thank You!! 🤗
So kind!
Thank you for another great video! ⚘️
So nice of you to say.
Great x idea thanks
i appreciate this
If we do it this way we will be bound... to succeed. ;)
For sure!
Nice, Clear demo. Do you have special hints in French binding points of stars?
Not really special. Just relax and practice. Fold further than you think you will need.... and it seems to work better. Best wishes!
Beatiful!!! Your videos are máster class. Can I ask, why we end so thirsty after sewing?😇😊
Why? Oh why?
Another great tutorial, although I find hand sewing intimidating.
It'll stop being intimidating after a little practice and muscle memory is gained. (This I say from experience!)

Thank you, great video. What scissors & size scissors were you using when you cut your binding strips after attaching them?
They were a small pair of Gingher. I'm not sure of the size. Smaller obviously. I also love my Kai scissors of a similar size.
How long (secure) does the binding hold when hand sewing? I have a king sized quilt I need to do this to soon.
I've had quilts for years and years without a single problem. I do this binding on my own larger quilts when they are for my beds.
What do you do with all your quilts?
Gifts, Use them, Lots of charity.
