In Guadalajara güero means light hair, not light skin. Light skin with black hair and eyes are not considered güeros. Not even the ones with light eyes and dark hair.
Some of us have nicknames after our appearance like lighter skin (guerro), tan/dark skin (negro), chino (for those with curly hair or tiny eyes), gordo (fat), flaco (skinny) and the list goes on. Mine was chapo which is short for chaparro which means (shorty) since i used to be short. Sounds more harsh in english but its natural to some of us
What I have noticed they do in Mexico to these nick names to make them nicer is to add a ito or ita. So in your case it would be chaparrito or say gordita, a heavy/fat girl or chononito for a asian person. No body seems to be insulted by these names. It's just the way they describe each other. Everybody has a nick name of some sort. I have been described in a few ways. El es un Bolillio. This means roll but I would guess it is referring to the white bread in the roll. A little humor about Bolillo. Mi suegra les llama "Pan de la noche" (Look at the shape of the top of the bread roll). She taught me all the nasty words in Spanish first. She was a expert with this kind of humor. This is a common term for a white person. My wife calls me Calabaza a lot.
