I think Doja has a lot of strong and interesting qualities. I am a fan but diversifying her lyrical content could really level her up IMO. I love her vocal range, willingness to be goofy, play with different vocal styles, ability to go from dance pop to heavy rap even to a bit of metal influence like in the say so rock rendition. She is also an incredible live performer, one of the best right now if you ask me. I don’t even need her content to be deep or super thought provoking but just branching out of sex/sexuality and haters/flexing would be so sick to hear from her and possibly a big level up.

TH-cam music critiques have definitely been given a big head these last few years when it comes to music. Just shut up and enjoy not everything has to be insanely deep and thought provoking to be great.
The thing I like about scarlet is that there’s something for everyone. She knew her fans would miss her pop songs and planet her sounds because it’s her most successful album next to hot pink so she brought both sounds back actually with gun, pttr, can’t wait, and agora hills. This album is an 8.5-9/10 for me because it’s not just the same sound so I can vibe with more songs than just the popular ones like I did with hot pink and planet her

i’ve actually been wanting to get into production more so what is it about the production that turns you away from the album? im genuinely asking btw i want to get another perspective bc i enjoyed the album but that’s really bc i’m looking at it as a solo album but the question still stands
I had a lot of fun with this record! Thought a lot of the beats and her flow were really great, Agora Hills is one of my favorites of the year so far!!
Since i'm a fan of all Doja's eras. I like the earlier stuff, the pop era and the more experimentalish rap stuff, so the reason why i liked this new album is because it felt like it had elements from all the different stuff she has done. I loved hearing those few pop songs being a part of this album, and for example agora hills has been playing for me in a loop since i listened the album. Even thought album had it’s weaker more boring spots and of course i too felt like this wasn't anything hugely "groundbreaking" or that hugely "different" or "experimental" as the expectations would have been, but i also feel like you're music doesn't have to be that "deeper" or thought provoking to be good, because this was something different and refreshing in the lines of her career and music and in her field. It's great that artists don't try to forcefully create a totally fresh sound just for the sake of being "new", and do stuff what feels most natural and best fitting for them. I feel like this is a start of new era for Doja to do stuff that feels most suitable and more meaningful to her. 7/10
she said "all my previous songs are mainstream shit all my fans are dumb" or whatever and then she goes and makes another album full of the same tiktok music she has been previously making. im not mad at her for any of her recent scandals, at this point im just so bored by the obvious cash grab, she is as rebellious as a kindergartner. if this was the result of her selling her soul to the devil, it wasnt worth that much apparently.
if this album truly does signify doja stepping into her own creative liberties more, i’d love and really hope to see her hop back in her producer bag, truly. i got a lil sad when Anthony was introducing her and didn’t add this title 🥲
The song is musically unpalatable and sounds like a rip off of coi leray... people's reptilian brains really just fall for any puppet music execs dangle in front if us. Truly and utterly goyslop. Fantano really feels held hostage by his earthly ties to not give this redundant album a 3.5 to 4/10.
This is an album that I believe will be a turning point in her career. This album with a couple of features, maybe some higher profile production would drastically improve its appeal to the masses. I expect her next project to have a variety of features that show a good switch up of tracks
The irony of Doja Cat saying she made those dance pop records to pander is that it's only fake because she made it fake. If you make art you like and you're genuine about it, it doesn't matter if it's pop or rap or whatever. It only becomes fake when YOU do it for clout and not because you love to do it.
Her new album just sounds like an improvement on what she's done before. She's hardly done anything new, other than shave her head. And I'm speaking as a fan of her music.
I bet doja knew the album wasn’t gonna do well review or general public wise compared to her earlier stuff which is why she had the meltdowns and rude/trash behavior. That way if the album flops she can blame it on her tweets vs. the fact that she’s not as revolutionary as people think she is. The mainstream pop/rap game is just so basic rn that anyone who is slightly diff is seen as an artistic genius. Her fans won’t care tho
Doja is my favourite singer since 2021, and that moment she was cute and beautiful singer, but in actual moment she changed a lot, even if she make that video where she "apologies" for your behaviour on twitter, I really don't know how to continue a be fan her.
I preferred Planet Her to Scarlet. That had better beats and singing. Scarlet had some fun beats and she has interesting flows, but nothing to say lyrically
I agree 💯 with planet her you can put on the entire album and just vibe this one is a lot harder to get into. The lyrics are so cheesy it takes you out of it.
as a doja cat fan this is definitely my favorite album from her, i like her best when she's rapping her ass off like you said instead of singing over those boring glossy pop ballads. personally i LOVED gun and it's one of my favorites off the album along with shutcho
Demons is a good song ppl on tik tok are boring lol, most ppls complaint is the lyrics "we are enemies we are foes who are you and what are those" ppl saying it sounds like a 4th graders rap. Idk if its intentional but i like that she acts childish and not super serious in that song its more playful and chaotic. Also the line "swallowed his kids and spat out a classroom" goes hard in that song.
Doja Cats antics remind me of early 2016-2018 Soundcloud. I like some Doja but wouldn’t buy an album or stream it on regular rotation. Moo is still my favorite track.
I really enjoyed this album. The production, lyricism, flow and attitude was great. I wish we got a darker sound than what we got and hopefully she delivers that on the deluxe.
I am a fond listener of doja cats music but you put it well, she seemed to have a lack of content to rap about. It feels like there was two topics "fuck you haters im rich" and "i love my boyfriend sm" which is all very nice but I dont find a lot of songs stand out because of that. I also feel a bit confused why she would go out of her way to disrespect her fans for liking her old music then drop something thats NOT THE SAME but similar. My favourites are gun, go off, and agora hills because theyre always stuck in my head right now. Overall i do like the album, i love the beats, and i can see she wants to change direction but im not blown away in a way that feels the direspect and ridicule was worth it? Like "yall fell for mediocre pop with planet her" (which it's not mediocre in the slightest but ok) then released paint the town red, gun, go off. And i LOVED planet her i listened to it way too much, and imma listen to scarlet some more but ive got a few i skip including often and love life
dojas issue with her fans is because of her boyfriend and his past demeanor with fans of his when he was a twitch streamer but shes rly masking it to be just "my fans control me too much" or "my fans only like my old stuff"
Its needless to say, this album is a blockbuster of an effort. The whole unveiling/rollout of the project was marketing genius and the anticipation leading up to the release did not disappoint. From lead single 'Attention' , introduction to alter ego Scarlet, curated videos, immaculate percussion AND well-deserved production on every track to 90s inspired verses with delicious braggadocious delivery. Also, the release of Agora Hills and the addition of two more tracks right before the release...such disprectful behavior like that goes straight to the jugular. I had never been so invested in listening to an album in over 10 years and must say this is a standout piece of work for the year 2023. This album will receive its flowers, no doubt. Top Tracks: Demons, Gun, Freestyle, Attention, Balut, Skull and Bones Cheers to Amala for her industry feat and thank you for your content. It is much appreciated.
Ouchies has been one of my standout faves, Demons and 97 is decent too but gotta admit the album is a bit of a sleeper, a lot of repetitive personal points, maybe didn't help that she's been pretty vocal on her socials so maybe it just feels a bit hammered in at this point. Idk I'll likely still enjoy and listen to the album but I like her older stuff, dont care if that's a basic take.
I realllllly disagree, I genuinely think it’s a well put together album. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to sit through an album without skipping. Skull & bones and can’t wait are on repeat for me rn!
I need to re-listen to Scarlet, but as a first impression I expected it to have even more of this demon/villain themes throughout the album. Can't explain it but she didn't deliver it as hard as I wished she did. In some ways this album reminded me of Goblin or Bastard but not as dark and raw.
its the same basic pop crap so doja cat and every other american garbage pop music. just listen to 1 song of her couldnt finish it just generic pop music with no soul what so ever.
not done with the review but that description of planet her before 1:15 explains my feelings *precisely* i just couldn't put it into words. huge doja fan but i was genuinely surprised to see the album do numbers like it did
My biggest problems with the album were the tracks were too short, I would have loved some third verses, and there being no features. If I had heard a WSG boomboomboomboomboooooom on one of the tracks from the second half, I could've shed a tear I think.
The last 6-7 tracks of this album (and 97) were amazing imo, it was just such a drag to get to that point though. Hopefully she takes the great parts of this album and expands on it
People seem to have opposite takes here. Some people love the first half and found the last half to be a bore, and then vice versa. Just an interesting observation
@@PalitoSelvatico that’s detail oriented. I liked her performance, the demon dancers and the arrangements. I didn’t care about that other stuff. She is a bit of a wild child that’s for sure
All that build up and playing it like it's gonna be the most experimental raw album. Then she drops literally a normal doja album. They're just slightly more rage inspired...like literally everything is now.
I personally *really* like this album. The lows on the album don't get worse than okay and the highs are all truly bangers. Probably gonna end up being my most played album this year. Also, man, I LOVE Ouchies, been seeing a lot of people specifically disliking that one.
Ouchies is very 2000s hype to me-I think the people who don’t like that song must not have been around in that time to notice the nostalgia of it 🤷🏽♀️ that’s my guess. I kept picturing the song featuring in some dance movie lol
scarlet has a ton of great tracks and has a much more mature developed sound compared to her earlier projects. hot pink is her catchiest album, but scarlet is definitely my favorite from her, even if it's not as much of a change in sound as she implied. hopefully she experiments more in her future works, excited to see what she does
You know it's weird, I don't find myself disagreeing with Fantano that often, but for some reason it always seems to be on Doja Cat albums. I really liked a lot of Planet Her. Some of it was a little derivative, but tracks like Woman and especially the SZA track were incredible. I thought it was a decent to strong 7. But that being said, I REALLY wanted to like this project, but I really just didn't. The slow part of the album which was like from 97 to Skull and Bones I found really hard to listen to, to the point where I found myself constantly pausing and getting distracted. I really liked the two singles Paint the Town Red and Attention, and Ochies and FTG were fun, but yeah, this was a no for me. I'm glad Fantano liked it because she is really talented, but where he sees a step forward I see a step backward. This is like a strong 3 for me.
Often is among best songs tho, and for sure the underrated one from Scarlet. Also Ouchies Top 3 from the album. Also he wasn't really crazy about Agora Hills when listened to it and it ended as among fav tracks lol
She’s been let down by her producers. She, herself, can produce music and beats that are a lot better (creatively) than many of these tracks. Just look at her first ever track completely produced by herself way back when called “4 Morant”.
melon needs to review rise and fall of a midwest princess by chappell roan; one of the most satisfying and fun albums of the year, and that’s even with most of its songs as singles. still felt so fresh and raw and unique

Löl thank you for mentioning Wet Vagina, FTG xD I‘ve been so vibing to that lately xD
I feel like a lot of the songs could’ve fit on one of Doja’s old albums, and some of them feel like the pop music she claims not to want to make. Wet Vag feels like Attention’s worse younger sister, like a first draft of it. 97 and Gun could’ve been on Planet Her, and Agora Hills could’ve been an Amala or Hot Pink track. Balut, Demons, Often, Attention, Love Life and Skull and Bones are the standouts from this album, and I feel like she could’ve just released this group. I listened to Agora Hills and Can’t Wait once each, but I can’t listen to them again because it makes me feel bad to be listening to a love song written to a predator lmaoooo. My question is, did Doja need FTG aaaand Go Off in one album? I know women are and will continue to unfairly hate on Doja, but did she need TWO songs dedicated to hating women?????!?!! and with zeRO NUANCE?!
Girl I don’t know what is wrong w your ear but where do you get 97 sounding like planet her from? Literally nothing on that album sounds like that song
Ngl she got accused of selling her soul over a Rico Nasty/Melanie Martinez Aesthetic that has been popular for the last few years now. It actually makes me scared if Rico or more Hardcore Women Rappers then Doja if they were to get the same level of exposure.
Im no "real" fan. Only learned about Doja Cat a few weeks ago. But i find her a fascinating punctuation on this lightning fast commentary on social progress online. She seems like a normal person who hit fame and is unwilling to market herself. She is doubling down that she will not change for the fame, but she is not going to say no to taking money for her tallent.
I listened to it and I liked it but it’s not really the best thing I’ve listened to this year so I’d give it a solid 7. My favorites are Can’t Wait, Agora Hills, FTG, and Go Off.
I hope this album is the floodgate for more growth and look forward to hearing more. This album grows on me the more I listen but I agree with pretty much what you said. I give it a 7.

@@mdew578 nobody takes Kanye or his fans seriously anymore so I don't think we really have to worry about that
@@mapledemon5601 Damn 😭😭😭
Hell fucking no!
Agora Hills is THE standout song to me. I really enjoy the song and can tell it will be on my top played tracks of 2023 on spotify.
Agreed!
yeah i was thinking the same thing, agora hills WILL BE my song of the year on Spotify.
Boring 2000s song
i thought you would’ve really liked ouchies and skull&bones. personally, i found them really interesting and far more nuanced than PTTR and Demons.
Paint the town red was a commercial single. Not meant to be the deepest but still dope bars
Did not expect to see that Akira OST vinyl in the back. Excellent taste Anthnee
People think all the controversy was about the demon stuff, which idc about, but always skip over the groomer bf stuff
This is an album that I believe will be a turning point in her career. This album with a couple of features, maybe some higher profile production would drastically improve its appeal to the masses. I expect her next project to have a variety of features that show a good switch up of tracks
Can't believe Doja Cat just blocked melon on twitter for being a fan of her new album
finally lets understand agora hills beyond the fact that its a hit. That song is genuinely phenomenal
The irony of Doja Cat saying she made those dance pop records to pander is that it's only fake because she made it fake. If you make art you like and you're genuine about it, it doesn't matter if it's pop or rap or whatever. It only becomes fake when YOU do it for clout and not because you love to do it.
If the album was called To pimp a Spider you would’ve given it a 10
Her new album just sounds like an improvement on what she's done before. She's hardly done anything new, other than shave her head. And I'm speaking as a fan of her music.
i think you're confused with Drake when has he done something new ?
@@excaliber8713Honestly Nevermind
The beats of scarlet are so cheap and boring
I agree 💯 with planet her you can put on the entire album and just vibe this one is a lot harder to get into. The lyrics are so cheesy it takes you out of it.
Nothing to say? That can easily be debunked by “love life” and honestly most of the songs, but love life sums it up.
as a doja cat fan this is definitely my favorite album from her, i like her best when she's rapping her ass off like you said instead of singing over those boring glossy pop ballads. personally i LOVED gun and it's one of my favorites off the album along with shutcho
Moo was her Thriller tbh
Missed it when she was a cow
BISH IMMA COW I GO MOOOOOOOOOO
Doja tried to pull a stunt, regreted a lil and then pulled it back... album is great tho
This is what I think happened
Melon repping the Akira soundtrack on the display back there. Salute you.
Attention could have come out in 96 and fit perfectly. My favorite track on it and it doesn’t even get a mention 😢
He did a whole video sharing his thoughs on that song alone when it first dropped.
Wanted the Freestyle personally. It was kinda short, granted.
@@_Onlime oh ok got it thanks
Anthony saying "it's giving" is giving me a migraine.
This one could have been an EP
I 100% agree with you about Planet Her. I enjoyed Hot Pink way more. PH the singles were just good and the rest of the album was meh to me.
And i LOVED planet her i listened to it way too much, and imma listen to scarlet some more but ive got a few i skip including often and love life
Melon saying “wet v@g!na” is one of the best things I’ve ever heard and it DEFINITELY won’t be taken out of context
I would love a review on Corinne Bailey Rae’s new record “Black Rainbows”. Definitely a favorite this year.
dojas issue with her fans is because of her boyfriend and his past demeanor with fans of his when he was a twitch streamer but shes rly masking it to be just "my fans control me too much" or "my fans only like my old stuff"
I WANT IT, I NEED IT, NEED IT TO MAKE ME FEEL HEATED
Top Tracks: Demons, Gun, Freestyle, Attention, Balut, Skull and Bones
Cheers to Amala for her industry feat and thank you for your content. It is much appreciated.
Better than Fantano's review.
That AKIRA SOUNDTRACK in the backgroud thou.
Was surprised she said “what are those” and “coat tails” twice on the same album 💀
I realllllly disagree, I genuinely think it’s a well put together album. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to sit through an album without skipping. Skull & bones and can’t wait are on repeat for me rn!
omg yes Can't Wait is so good... people have a lot of criticism for the album but i agree with u that it was very nicely composed.
Thank youuu, Can't Wait doesn't get enough credit
@@Lazslo_L we gotta spam stream guys
I need to re-listen to Scarlet, but as a first impression I expected it to have even more of this demon/villain themes throughout the album. Can't explain it but she didn't deliver it as hard as I wished she did. In some ways this album reminded me of Goblin or Bastard but not as dark and raw.
Everyone hating the album immediately Turning into “it’s a step in the right direction” tomorrow.
Hating? Thought the general consensus was mildly positive
You have to be black with black soul to like or deconstruct this album
That kitty pryde pull is exactly what I was thinking of. God, I've been on the internet too long.
Not you ignoring Slayyyter’s album yet again 🙄🙄🙄
its the same basic pop crap so doja cat and every other american garbage pop music. just listen to 1 song of her couldnt finish it just generic pop music with no soul what so ever.
not done with the review but that description of planet her before 1:15 explains my feelings *precisely* i just couldn't put it into words. huge doja fan but i was genuinely surprised to see the album do numbers like it did
The thought that Anthony could be rolling around, drowning in a piss filled pit at a Deathgrips concert at this very moment really adds to the review.
@@jonathanpena3512 Interesting I had no idea. That's the beautiful thing about music though, everyone interprets it differently.
@@jonathanpena3512 yeah she really released a mix bag of music even though it's seems all the tracks really goes well together
Her MTV video awards performance was incredible by the way
People listen to doja with there eyes, yes
Really? The wig was cheap and the outfit didn't fit her well, the best part were the dancers
@@PalitoSelvatico that’s detail oriented. I liked her performance, the demon dancers and the arrangements. I didn’t care about that other stuff. She is a bit of a wild child that’s for sure
crazy how some of y'all finished a ten minute video a minute after it came out.
Also, man, I LOVE Ouchies, been seeing a lot of people specifically disliking that one.
this and guts for me
Ouchies is very 2000s hype to me-I think the people who don’t like that song must not have been around in that time to notice the nostalgia of it 🤷🏽♀️ that’s my guess. I kept picturing the song featuring in some dance movie lol
This is her best album in my opinion. I loved it.
Balut is actually a Filipino delicacy
scarlet has a ton of great tracks and has a much more mature developed sound compared to her earlier projects. hot pink is her catchiest album, but scarlet is definitely my favorite from her, even if it's not as much of a change in sound as she implied. hopefully she experiments more in her future works, excited to see what she does
6 for few corny lyrics and 3 mid songs is crazy
I see what you did with the “6” rating Melon
if you followed the drama, a lot of the lyrics don’t hit as hard, they sound like lies instead 🤷🏻
They hit hard especially on Skull and Bones
Thats only if you believe shes lying. I feel like these songs are genuine, i mean they could be lies but a lot of them feel sincere.
No one cares about the drama except the haters
Often is among best songs tho, and for sure the underrated one from Scarlet. Also Ouchies Top 3 from the album.
Also he wasn't really crazy about Agora Hills when listened to it and it ended as among fav tracks lol
She’s been let down by her producers. She, herself, can produce music and beats that are a lot better (creatively) than many of these tracks. Just look at her first ever track completely produced by herself way back when called “4 Morant”.
4 Morant is so so beautiful
@@brinleymccully2123 really amazing, to think she produced, wrote and performed the whole song by herself speaks of her talent
Totally agredd@@Jacob_JRW
melon needs to review rise and fall of a midwest princess by chappell roan; one of the most satisfying and fun albums of the year, and that’s even with most of its songs as singles. still felt so fresh and raw and unique
Considering the shit she was talking on twitter to her bfs accusers were luckily the whole album wasn’t that
I didn’t feel like “Go Off” was about hating women.
Where did you get "hating women" from on Go Off?? That's more of a female anthem, uplifting women.
go off is about supporting women???
Girl I don’t know what is wrong w your ear but where do you get 97 sounding like planet her from? Literally nothing on that album sounds like that song
Ngl she got accused of selling her soul over a Rico Nasty/Melanie Martinez Aesthetic that has been popular for the last few years now. It actually makes me scared if Rico or more Hardcore Women Rappers then Doja if they were to get the same level of exposure.
Can't wait for her to say she wasn't actually trying again
Im no "real" fan. Only learned about Doja Cat a few weeks ago. But i find her a fascinating punctuation on this lightning fast commentary on social progress online. She seems like a normal person who hit fame and is unwilling to market herself. She is doubling down that she will not change for the fame, but she is not going to say no to taking money for her tallent.
If it was yellow instead of scarlet you would give this a 10/10
I just wanna know if she's finally gonna bless us & retire like she said now 😂
Just me who thinks the pics of her covered in blood would’ve been a wayyy better album cover
I hate having to look at spiders 😔🕷️
wow thank you for finally getting around to reviewing the saosin album !
Overall, I give the album a Strong 7. 💽 I like FTG, Agora Hills, and Can't Wait. Also good: Paint the Town Red, 97, Attention and Balut.
I listened to it and I liked it but it’s not really the best thing I’ve listened to this year so I’d give it a solid 7. My favorites are Can’t Wait, Agora Hills, FTG, and Go Off.
shoutout to dusty ray for the cover art. love all their other art too, between gory and unnerving.
I hope this album is the floodgate for more growth and look forward to hearing more. This album grows on me the more I listen but I agree with pretty much what you said. I give it a 7.
