    Maaaaan, I mustah' bought every got dayum' HB 2B H pencil that the art store had. 10 different mechanical pencils are sitting on my desk, each of em' have a different type of lead in em'. Hmph. All you need is 2.
    "Lock in shadows with an HB"
    That's a good tip !

      Hello could you please explain what kind of HB is that? It doesn`t look like an HB, makes a very dark line, or am I missing something?

    You are a gift to the art community, and TH-cam. This is a great practice, and i wish some one taught me something like this sooner. Whether it's a charcoal, or graphite pencil, this helped me figure out what is the darkest the choice of media can get, and then work form there to create the value scale. Thank you so much!

On the noses video after You got in the basic outline and put down several different values of darks and lights You go over all the edges with a pencil (in a holder). Is that an h or hb charcoal pencil?.....or is it an hb graphite pencil or is it something else? Thanks.

    • @zinlimart
      @zinlimart  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ‘lock with HB pencil’ : Vine charcoal is easily erased. So, HB pencil is used to hold the edge's positions.
      ‘edge control’ : blending, refining, detailing, softening, sharpening around edges.

      You can do this exercise with either one! I used a 2B pencil for starters as its less messy, but I think the real beauty of this exercise is that it shows that you should first find the darkest dark of the media you choose. Once you know the darkest dark, you are less likely to second guess if you think you can go any darker, and then build hand muscle memory on how much pressure to go extreme dark, or light. Good luck and have fun! I wish I saw this type of exercise way earlier in my art journey.
