- It’s no secret that Dodge’s new 707 horsepower Hellcat power plant has caused quite a stir among performance car enthusiasts. When we headed to Portland earlier this year to drive the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, we came away with a lot of reasons to be excited. Considering that the Charger and Challenger share a nearly identical platform aside from the coupe’s shorter wheelbase, it comes as little surprise that the driving experience between the two is fairly similar. Still, with four doors, the Charger serves a different purpose in Dodge’s lineup, and the automaker has made a concerted effort to give the Charger its own unique characteristics that complement its sedan configuration and the role it will play for potential buyers. To get a better understanding of exactly what that entails, we headed to Washington D.C. and nearby Summit Point Motorsports Park in West Virginia to see for ourselves.

That car isn't made for the track. That car is made for going to work, doing the groceries and driving your kids to the training; and on the way if some fool comes up at the traffic lights with his m3 or whatever, wanting to do some quarter mile, you gonna show him one of the best looking taillights ever built, while your kids can wave him goodbye.

I can't believe this thing is starting at 60,000. That interior looks quite nice. Only problem I have is that no manual is offered, and I think the Charger looks much better than the Challenger.

No. This is a charger hellcat. No manual transmission in this model. The challenger hellcat has both transmissions available.

Taking a 700+ hp sedan out on narrow, wet, winding roads takes some serious balls and skills.
Should have maximized the speedometer readout. Couldn't really see what was going on speed-wise.

I might be wrong since I've never owned one but thinking in getting one as a starter before I get my GTR. I feel like this car even at 50mph if you floor it it'll lose traction and spin everywhere....like there's just too much power in the back wheels. Idk I night be wrong.
So what do you guys like better. The Manuel 6 speed or the automatic 8 with paddles?
I'd rather get the 8 speed probably easier to control when going balls out

Actually I have that issue of keeping it planted on dry ground. I took out the throttle delay with a sprint booster and it's kind of touchy. Gotta be careful in these things. That's the kind of power I like.

I want to see this in a head to head competition on the race course with a BMW M-5. For the price, it's hard to see buying any other full size four door sedan.
Hey checked on this and they are only making like 1300 of the hell cat. I tryed to obtain one and dodge said if you haven't ordered it yet and paid for it in full than I have no luck. Plus the first five have been sold at auction for around 800,000. Good luck getting one. And yeah Jay Leno has one and he paid well over 200, 000 for his. All for charity.

Why are radios "already on" in most of the car reviews? Whoever delivers them nds2B told to shut everything off B4 leaving the car! Hearing a loud radio blaring first thing the engine starts, doesn't enhance the TH-cam experience.

Ian Clancy Dodge really needs to offer better tires on these beasts at least as an option.
It's never worth taking the risk on public roads, that much power, you don't know what could go wrong.

To use the paddles do you have to be in 'M' mode or can you drop up or down a gear anytime while in D?

I have always had one question about these built in NAV systems like this car has plus a lot of the other vehicles as well, can you be able to actually change the voice on these like saying maybe something like a Sargent in the army or some other funny character?
This video would be lovely if the driver actually put the vehicle to its limit and red lined it through every gear and actually used the engine for what it's made for.
you simply cannot do that safely on public roads especially in the rain a drag strip is where that belongs.
As a hardcore Mopar lover all I can say is the concept was nice, but these cars( including the 392 Scatpack versions) all need to be AWD! A 3.6 AWD Pentastar version with a Ripp supercharger would be a better daily driver!
