How avoid desk-rejection: The first four minutes (Part 3)
Course subtitle: As an Emerald journal editor-in-chief, I will share some tricks and tips with you to avoid desk-rejection!
Desk-rejection means your manuscript is rejected by a journal without being sent out for review. This means not only you have to try your luck at another journal, but also you may receive preciously little advice on how to improve your chances. More than half of all submissions to journals are rejected by editors immediately “desk rejected”, without even being sent for review. The desk-rejection rate is even higher in top-tier journals as high as 80%. Thus, desk-rejection has become one of the biggest barriers to get your paper published. In this online course, as the editor-in-chief of one an Emerald journal (Asia-Pacific Journal of Business Administration), I’ll share some tricks and tips with you to hopefully avoid desk-rejection in the future.

I’m Saeed. I’m currently the Director of Centre for Industrial Revolution and Innovation (CIR4I), Taylor’s University, Malaysia. I serve as the editor-in-chief for Asia-Pacific Journal of Business Administration, Taylor’s Business Review, and Homo economicus. I’ve conducted various workshops on research and publication-related topics. I also have published more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals. I’ve received several research awards, among them are Taylor’s University Vice Chancellor’s Research Award and the Iranian Embassy Research Medallist Award in 2017. I have a passion for teaching too. I received Superhero Award 2018 for integrating technology in classroom and recently I was awarded the gold medal of EMAS award for innovation in teaching and learning in 2020. I've helped many students and researchers to publish their papers in top-tier journals. In this course, I’ll share my experience as a journal editor with you.
