  • Prof. Dexin Zhou is an Assistant Professor in Economics and Finance at Zicklin School of Business, Baruch College, City University of New York. He received his bachelor’s degree from Bard in 2009 and PhD in Finance from Emory University’s Goizueta School of Business in 2015. His research focuses on behavioral finance and investments. His research work has been cited by The Economist, Financial Times and Wall Street Journal. We will discuss financial markets during the Covid-19 pandemics, his research in behavioral finance, and the economics of the classic music industry.
    The summary:
his research: how pay inequality affects employees' satisfaction about their jobs. base pay inequality is negatively related to satisfaction, while total pay (which includes incentive) do not have such effect. 2) social network helps firm attract investors and make firms more valuable
Thoughts on the music industry: 1) live performance and music through media are substiutes. 2) tech advancement makes music over media more competitive relative to live. Thus may exacerbate winner-take-all situation. 3) classic musicians need more specialization and differntation. 4) on the government side universal basic income may be one solutions
Financial markets recently: scary and uncertain. Central banks have saved the day, but what will happen next is still very hard to know.
Career: research is fun and it's rewarding to lift disadvantaged and hardworking students into better careers.
