New to your channel loved the content. Sorry for those mishaps.😥 For food you can use apps like swiggy , Zomato and order food to your hotel from the good restaurants.😁 Yes Ola ,Uber are much more efficient than regular taxi and auto rickshaw.😊

Ganja should be legalised in India
It is part of Indian religions, culture and way of living. It is good food supplement, medicine, textile etc. It is one of the important medicine herbs in Ayurveda. It is offer to God Shiva.
Even British colonial could not dare to ban it in India but Indian govt under pressure From USA has banned ganja .
Alcohol manufacturing companies lobbied worldwide for ganja banned .
Sanskrit ayurvedic name of ganja is Vijaya ( the Victorious).

WOWW.. Such a honest video.. Appreciate it guys.. One thing for sure.. always always drink water from a bottle from a reputed place only. these days apparently they too are being adulterated.. but 95% of the time, you get genuine quality. But you can drink from the water dispensers that dispense cold water.. they are safe to drink. Street food carries that risk always no matter the country you have it in.. But do remember, ,when you are back in India,, try doing the southern part of India too and no matter which part of the country you are in.. always always ask for help if you are not sure.. Local people 99.99% of the time are pretty helpful and do take pride in helping foreigners. As a woman if you ever feel threatened or unsafe,, just ask help from whoever is next to you guys especially ladies.. or even police.. they will help you... I have been out of India for the past 15 years but I go back every year and pretty much everything I said holds truth.. Good luck on your travels..

The water thing really depends on your location to be honest. Some cities have water supply, which is treated and is safe to drink, that's what most of us prefer as well and I haven't heard of anyone getting sick or dying from it so. You'll also find homes which pump ground water to drink, which is also safe, but the taste might vary, so it's up to you. But yes, there are places you should try and avoid drinking the water, but obviously it's not all of India, it's not like we all drink "mineral water", which btw, isn't as safe as you guys might think either, but that's a different topic I suppose.
Point is, if you're in a city with treated water supply, it's safe to drink from the tap. If the local people are safe, you'll be too. But if you're at a place where you can't confirm if the water is treated, avoid it all costs.
People do also use water purifiers, so you can also ask someone for water from that. But you can drink tap water depending on where you're, just be careful.
And as for you guys, you're both pretty cool and adorable. I hope you guys come back to India again after this whole pandemic thing is over. Take care of yourself, stay safe. Good luck!

Quite apt and humble way to put things into perspective. Anything can happen in India.
Definitely many positives and some weird uncomfortable moments. But anything more, like groping or assault is a crime, and you have all rights to call police and report.
We really feel bad when things like this happen to inspiring travelers like you both, but thats something we must address it and work on it.
Yes, India is a little complex, but i know you guys love to see the order in the disorderly chaos. :) Take care.

Hi Sally and Ed. I like watching travel vlogs and I just stumbled upon your channel. Nice to see your trip to India and your feedback. Thanks for your nice and Honest opinions. Sorry for the Incident.. I agree, its a bit difficult for the foreigners traveling in India, due to the food, uncomfortable stares from the people and of course the scams. But I hope you've had some nice moments. Keep traveling.. Lots of Love from India !!!

You can carry a chain and a padlock. Indian trains do have hooks underneath the seats to lock your luggage with a chain for extra safety (though most trains have Armed personnels during night hours).
And for that military issue, foreigners do carry drugs in certain routes and places, for example getting drugs in Varanasi is pretty easy. You can be checked in these places. Just dont carry drugs, and do keep an eye on your luggage.

The thing you mentioned with drugs if it's some local police I would say it's a scam but with military officers it's a bit unlikely. Himachal Pradesh is a place where a lot of people go to get high you can see weed growing everywhere and a white foreigner is expected to buy some weed(ofcourse a stereotype type or misunderstanding and ed has a bit of hipster look). The seller probably got pissed and misinformed the police. Like you said it's never a good idea to buy drugs or marijuana in a strange place.
PS: Weed only became illegal in India fairly recently. People aren't that strict towards weed. During holi festival a drink is served all over North India with weed and nobody cares. So just weed won't get you in that big of a trouble. But the real drugs might especially for a foreigner.

    • @SallyAndEd
      @SallyAndEd  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Thats a really good point. The fact that it was military police (we think) means it's unlikely it was a scam. Now that i've spoken to a few people about it i'm beginning to think It was probably just coincidence and I was profiled because I look like a hipster with a beard

And I strongly believe even a small incident should also be reported to police. But having said that, if you take even bare minimum tourists safe practices India is very safe even for a lone woman traveller.

In india it's like, you can simply ask for help to any person standing next to you, he might even go to certain limits to help you. Basically the actual reason behind this is Indian feel pride on helping others, as it's embedded in their character. They believe in 'vasudhev kutumbkam', which means whole universe is one family, that's the core believe that persists through our india. So if in case you feel any problem, you can simply get to anyone close to you for help, may it be a male or female, because females of India are just lit🔥 in teaching a lesson to such bad people, they will help you as a family member, and I can ensure this. Infact later they might also invite you for a lunch or dinner and it's just normal in india😅, because there nothing like unknown people in India 😂🙏👍

To be very honest, I myself haven't traveled to Northern plains in many years now. Sexual harassment is a very common thing specially in the northern plains. Once you are into the mountains and valleys, you can expect decent humble people. South is very safe and so is north east. Last few years I have restricted myself to NE and the South mainly, after having a family to protect. I cant be bothered worrying for my family's safety while on a precious few days of holidays.
