First of all, thank you for an excellent review. I've had the Q20 and got the early bird directly from Anker, for the Q30 so I bought them also. I have a divided opinion. I think Q20 is comfier and the ear pads are better. So kudos for that. The Q30 has better sound, only if you use the equalizer as intended. The noise cancellation is really good on both but Q30 has the crown, as it can change based on different environments. Taking phone calls, they both have done a decent job. I never had audiophile cans or top end ones but both Q20 and Q30 have been doing a very decent job. The only downside with all over ear/circum-aural cans is the heat they generate. I cannot wear them for more than half an hour. Anyway, If you could compare the Q30 to the Liberty Air 2, I'd appreciate it.
Nice review. Thank you. I have a question though: I wonder if the equalizer settings in the app of the Q30 are stored in the headset itself. To say it different: does the equalizer work on other devices without the app installed?
This is the most detailed review of these headphones I was able to find (and watch) on TH-cam. Hats off to you, sir, for the high attention to detail and for a job very well done. Thank you!
This is by far the most detailed, in depth and informative review of any product i've seen so far,(and i' ve seen a few)....meticulous... RESPECT!!! I'm interested in the q30s, over a month now but finding this price in or to Greece, is simply not possible...
Lovely review, just what I needed to commit on buying these cans. Thank you very much for your hard work and the attention that you put into creating your content and interacting with your audience in the comments section!
One of the most thorough, helpful reviews I’ve seen. Currently listening on the TT soundsurge 46 which already sound excellent so more clarity is intriguing! I’m really happy with these Taotronics, but the custom EQ, transparency and various ANC modes are very alluring. Most curious if the Q30s are able to cancel more voices than the TT 46. Thanks a ton and keep up the good work.
Many thanks Troy Irvin - much appreciated! The Life Q30s are a good balance of price and features - but will be getting more ANC headphones in to test soon!
I just bought these headphones based on your detailed review, and I have to agree. Out of the box sound, I do have to agree with your assessment that the bass can be slightly overpowering. I noticed this with songs that used a bass guitar (I noticed this quite well in the song No Ordinary Love by Sade, R&B). I'm really happy with my purchase overall though, it has a good sound and at this price am well satisfied :-)
I've been looking for a review for life q30 s and your review cover all the questions I have. I really appreciate the attention to detail and your effort👌👌👌👌
Great review. I've tried the OneOdio A30's and had to send them back as the sound quality was rubbish with the NC on, so I got the Q30's instead. Couldn't agree more with all the points you said, sound quality is good and tweakable to your preference, the NC is good and that battery life is epic, what a bargain for £59 considering what you're getting
Thanks for the good review. Really have enjoyed this model since April 2021. Really nice sound after tweaking the sound ( classic rock fan). For those who ask microphone not bad just sometimes sounds like a cheap cell phone. Supposedly, Q35 added work quality microphone.
Outstanding review, as ever. Would appreciate a comparison with the Sony XM3/4 and Bose QC. Only drawback for me with the QC30 is mic quality- not sure it’s good enough for calls
Thank you JN TURNER! They are certainly usable for calls - but this is something, like the ANC that doesn't match the far more expensive headphones. I will try and compare them in the sound test to the Sonys in an upcoming video.
As of 2022, these headphones no longer support ANC over the wired connection. This is an important change for those that want/need to use these with a wired connection in a noisy environment.
The bass is really nice on the Q30 , IMO the Tribit Quiet Plus are really nice sounding across the board, bass is better on the Q30 . I would go with the Tribit if sound is your priority.
Thanks for the comprehensive review. sounds like a worthy successor to my old media monitoring Q10s with the ear cups now disintergrating. Have you per chance tried replacing the ear cups on the Q30? Or any other Anker headphones for that matter.
thank you so much for this comparison ! I'd make a big mistake if I bought a tribit Quietplus ... Quietplus has too less bass and deepness for me, but taotronics is TOO focus on bass, Q30 in this good middle !
Thank you Adam B! The Tribit are still good headphones - and they have one feature that I love which I've only just discovered - zero latency. So with the right device you get no lip sync delay - a real issue with Bluetooth headphones. But overall I probably prefer the Q30s.
@@TheTechnologyMan I didn't mean that these are bad headphones, but I personally prefer the bass-deep sound, but he is not the main character in the headphones. Tribit They sound very nice, but the anker headphones give the color I like (delicate V). Zero latency is not especially important to me, because I don't play games (playing on the phone is not particularly pleasant for me, I prefer a computer / console if I have time for it at all;)), and watching TH-cam with a small delay is not any bothersome. Thank you for your answer :)
correct : Zero latency is NOT especially important to me, because I don't play games (playing on the phone is not particularly pleasant for me, I prefer a computer / console if I have time for it at all;))
Arrived today. They are great, sound, input, comfy even for big heads :), ANC is great -all I needed and wanted ...and yes they look like premium quality with a somewhat mate look even in real. I just have some questions if anyone could answer... Should only the right mic work on Windows? It registers input sound only when I tap the right ear pad, left is mute, some people say it is normal, the second mic(on left) is like a slave for ANC so it does not catch vocal input. Headphones do not power on aux so no ANC? Some people on Reddit wrote that they can power ANC on aux, I can not. Allegedly, this option is disabled since the last firmware update but no official note was found. Also seems like there is no Linux support for mic out of the box, needs tweaking. - Expected. :) Thank you.
Glad you're enjoying them in the main. I don't have them to hand at the moment, but I'll check your queries when I get a chance. Hopefully someone will get back to you before then.
Hi! I was also searching about that and I found a forum where Anker explained it (it was intentional tho), this is the support email To make sure the stable Bluetooth connection, the original chip manufacturer close the ANC feature in the wired mode. In this situation, there is no access to use the ANC mode when using them via the aux cable now. In addition, please note we can’t downgrade the firmware and there is nothing wrong with this firmware version. So sorry for the disappointment.
Thank you for your detailed thoughtful review. The only outstanding question I have is about the sound quality for a called party. In a noisy environment does the called party hear you with good call quality. Driving is a car with the window cracked or down is a good real-life scenario.
Thank you John Littlefield! If you listen to the section on mic quality - this is basically what the called party hears. They might be ok in that situation - but it's hard to say for sure.
I have a question, the mic test wasn't as detailed as i hopet it would be so cn you please tell me if me or my interlocutor would have a problem during a normal conversation in diferent environnements such as metro, mall street. Will i have to raise my voice and some effort so i can be heard ? And will my interlocutor catch the noises or people's conversations aroud me ?
Great review! Does the sound quality deteriorate when using the headphones with a wire? Also, do the app EQ settings persist when using the headphones with a wire?
Thank you TheWorldWillBeOK! Theoretically the sound is better wired but depends on what you're listening too - I can't usually tell the difference. EQ settings do persist.
Excellent review, Great video. I am writing from Colombia. I think that Soundcore Life Q30 is the best option, Sound quality, great price, comfort, ANC, Soundcore App. I will use them in the office, to listen to music at home and also to walk outdoors, normally 2 hours a dayThat would be a problem considering the heat generated by over ear/circum aural cans, on the other hand this type of headphones are the most recommended for big head like me. If you could compare the Q30 to Mixceder E9. What other headphones can you recommend?
Thank you R X! I think for their asking price they offer good value - look out for Black Friday deals that may still be around - they were quite reduced!
easily the best of the bunch. even though I mostly use natural headphones, I don't like the sub bass roll off the tribit have. it made it sound hollow on some tracks. the q30 is basically what the boss cq35 tried to be but much much better (I really dislike the 35) the only real downside to this pair is that AAC is the highest codex it has, which is baffling because their 50 dollar TWS have aptex. granted that doesn't make a difference if you have an apple device, but it's still annoying. id happily pay an extra 100 dollars for an ldac inclusion, honestly..
How did these headphones do on phone calls? I'm looking for a pair for my remote job, however, I read a review that said these did not do well on calls. I do not have consistent background noise for random loud noises from neighboring homes that I do not want picked up in the background.
Just received mine from Amazon. Would have been nice to know that as of 2022 the Q30 ANC won't work with a wired connection to the aux port. I'll be returning for one that does.
Wow. Thanks a great review. Really getting me thinking. My wife’s tt bh85?? Have lost all power after a few months. Now do I replace like for like or go up to the q30? The tt for me are bass heavy, don’t like that. The wife just wants something for indoor calls and audiobooks and video, with anc when travelling. Have to have a think. I personally use nura phones and love them. ANC up there with Sony in my opinion and the sound personalisation is brilliant. These days do we need to spend £300 on a headset.
@@TheTechnologyMan These arrived yesterday and I must say I am not disappointed. The equaliser is great to fiddle around with. There are certain songs I've simply never heard clearly until now. It's as if you have an entire HiFi system on your head. I don't like to spend that much on headphones usually but I'm glad I invested in them in the end! Thanks again for the great review!
Excellent review. Since a lot of wireless headphones disable their internal DAC when used with cable, do these headphones sound worse when used with 3.5mm cable?
This is sort of an edit on my previous comment. How do you engage ANC when wired? It doesn't work and also on their website it's stated that ANC is not supported with aux. I'm aware that your review is 4 yrs old and the model I got says "upgraded" so maybe it has something to do with yours being an older model... I don't know
Thanks Gidon, great review as always. One thing I missed is - how do they sound when connected by the 3.5mm jack with NC turned on. Seen a comment somewhere that the volume gets drastically reduced. Could you clarify on this please?
Thank you unclnis! I've just double checked on an iPad and it was a little quieter - but definitely not drastically. I had to switch a few times to even confirm the reduction.
Thank you Vitor Machado! Don't think the EQ settings would affect the codec - there's always an EQ applied - even before your play around with the settings in the app.
2 questions: If i use them in wired mode. Would they still need be charged? Also, some people are saying the sound quality is worse on wired mode as opposed to non-wired mode.
Just got mine today. It's my first time having a ANC headphones. Is it normal that I'm still clearly hearing other people's voices talking even my ANC is on? It cancels the ambient sounds but the sounds of the people is still clearly there.
Nice review. I have had an issue with these headphones: I have charged with their own cable and they stopped charging at 60%. I have used a 5v/2A charger (got from my phone). How can I avoid this issue? I would like to buy them another time. Thanks
Hello, I’m currently using the ASUS Noise Cancelling Plug In and I’m planning to go wireless. Anyway you might or can compare NC-performance between this and the plug in? Thanks!
Hey! Great review! I am getting an offer on these Headphones for around USD 66. What i really want to know is if it does a decent job when it comes to zoom/MS Team calls for work? How good is the call quality ( after the firmware update) and can we use them either through bluetooth and wired? If we can use them wired for calls, does it make the call quality better? Appreciate your feedback guys.. I just have a day to decide since the offer is valid until tomorrow! Thanks!
Thanks. Sorry might be late for your deal. I would listen to the mic tests and decide if it's good enough for you. I found call quality ok and I'd say very usable in a quieter environment. Don't think the mic works wired. Will check when I have time.
Good review, thanks! But i have a question. I want the headphones for work. Using them mostly for conference calls. I look at them cause they say Q30s have ambient sound cancelation on microphone. I have 4 kids and thats my main topic. To have others in my room watching TV, but the one that im talking with dont listen another sound diferent than my voice. Do you know if Q30s are good doing that?
Thank you David Pozo Plumed! They're not bad and the mics do have noise cancelling - but I'd suggest listening the mic tests. I think that sounds like quite a challenging scenario!
I already saw it, you made a record on a coffe shop but i miss maybe more test about mic. I mean, today we are all working at home and mics become a main part of a headphone. In future reviews could be nice to play music or TV so loud and try mic there. That could be helpful. Anyway you made an amazing job. Thank you very much.
Just received my Q30's . £56 thank you Amazon. Initial sound check not impressive. Knew about the Anker app off Google. Got to the equalizer quickly, boosted bottom base and vocals and the sound came alive. Much better. Build quality not premium, but still OK.
I am about to get my Q30 tomorrow. I was just wondering, If i set an eq to my headphones using my phone, will the eq reset whenever I connect/use the headphones to another device? If I use Aux will the eq reset to stock aswell
The second half of the clip after the short pause where the scene also changes to a coffee shop, had quite loud background noise - so the headphones didn't do a bad job. I can't say whether they'll be any firmware updates - you'd have to check with Anker. Hope that helps.
I have the Q20 and if I should nag about something it's that I would like them to be a bit tighter on my head. They have a much more "round" design than e.g. Sony xm3 and if I shake my head they simply fall off. Can you say something about the fit of the Q30 VS Q20?
Yes these are similar - a little loose as I mention in the video. I just have the headband a little tighter than I normally would. But I don't have the Q20s.
Can ANC be used without playing anything (ie music) on them at the same time -> so just to enjoy some quiet by disabling the outside noises (ie in a loud work environment)?
@@TheTechnologyMan Thanks. I bet that can get a bit hectic ;) Do you in that case just put on the Headphones and enable the ANC via the button...or do you also have to play some kind of "quiet track" in order for ANC to start working?
I just purchased some and I love them! But I can't pair them with the app, which means I can't change eq settings etc...I have a Google pixel 4a. Anyone know what might be going on?
@@TheTechnologyMan Well that's the thing, they are connected to my Bluetooth, so I can listen to music and everything fine, but it's just in the Soundcore app they are not picking up. It just says "searching" and then stops and says "select Bluetooth device from settings" and then I do and nothing happeneds. Sorry this is very long but am grateful for the help 😊
Try reducing the playback speed to 0.75x - TH-cam does a good job on this. And you can enable captions - I have full transcripts for every video. Hope that helps.
I've not tried the XM4s - but the Soundcores aren't as good as the XM3s. When you put the XM3s on, you have almost complete silence in a lot of situations.
I'm my opinion, its about 80% of the sony's. low rumbles and air flow completely disappear, but the sony's will almost completely eliminate high pitched noises and voices. I've been in a situation recently where I was next to 3 running airplanes and I could barely hear them with the ANC, with the exception of said higher pitch noises. for most people, these will be enough

Thanks, i can t wait to see how it stands against the soundcore q30
Excellent review, Great video. I am writing from Colombia. I think that Soundcore Life Q30 is the best option, Sound quality, great price, comfort, ANC, Soundcore App. I will use them in the office, to listen to music at home and also to walk outdoors, normally 2 hours a dayThat would be a problem considering the heat generated by over ear/circum aural cans, on the other hand this type of headphones are the most recommended for big head like me. If you could compare the Q30 to Mixceder E9. What other headphones can you recommend?
Thank you Jorge alberto Galvez Jaramillo - hope everything is ok in Colombia! I've not tested the Mixceders but thanks for the suggestion!
I like your review it's very detailed
So would you recommend buying these headphones?
Is it a good deal for $80?
Thank you R X! I think for their asking price they offer good value - look out for Black Friday deals that may still be around - they were quite reduced!
Pros: long range over 40 ft, stable connection. Cons: bad microphone not good for calls
easily the best of the bunch. even though I mostly use natural headphones, I don't like the sub bass roll off the tribit have. it made it sound hollow on some tracks. the q30 is basically what the boss cq35 tried to be but much much better (I really dislike the 35) the only real downside to this pair is that AAC is the highest codex it has, which is baffling because their 50 dollar TWS have aptex. granted that doesn't make a difference if you have an apple device, but it's still annoying. id happily pay an extra 100 dollars for an ldac inclusion, honestly..
I think it must be an Apple thing - manufacturers dropping aptX support. That's why I was pleased to see NFC support ...
How did these headphones do on phone calls? I'm looking for a pair for my remote job, however, I read a review that said these did not do well on calls. I do not have consistent background noise for random loud noises from neighboring homes that I do not want picked up in the background.
They're pretty good - IIRC I have a mic test in the video so you can hear for yourself?
Just received mine from Amazon. Would have been nice to know that as of 2022 the Q30 ANC won't work with a wired connection to the aux port. I'll be returning for one that does.
👍
Thank you Mark Bowen! Yes Anker are doing a good job with the app - something setting them apart with these less expensive headphones.
Great review
Thank you Jagpreet Bhullar!
Not that I noticed.
I don't know
They may have changed them slightly since I reviewed them - it was a while ago!
What does reset the headphones mean?
What does it do to your headphones if I push the on/off button for X minutes
IIRC it's just to clear the pairings.
Great review, thank you!
Do they still use AAC while the EQ is on, or does it fall back to SBC?
Thank you Vitor Machado! Don't think the EQ settings would affect the codec - there's always an EQ applied - even before your play around with the settings in the app.
@@TheTechnologyMan thank you, I ask that because I heard the Sony XM3 does that when EQ is applied in their app.
2 questions:
If i use them in wired mode. Would they still need be charged?
Also, some people are saying the sound quality is worse on wired mode as opposed to non-wired mode.
In wired mode you're connecting with the 3.5mm audio jack which won't charge them if that's what you mean?
Is the Soundcore Life Q30 better than jbl 660nc in terms of sound and noise cancelling?
Sorry I've not tested the JBL but good suggestion!
@@TheTechnologyMan Thank you for the response
Hey does the headphone work on DualShock 4 controllers when wired? I’ve heard that the mic does not work when connected
Sorry not tried them with DualShock controllers.
Did you test them with the *provided* AUX cable? In wired mode, nothing works! Not the app, Not the EQ and not the active noise control.
Yes - that's right you lose the Bluetooth connection when connected with a cable.
@@TheTechnologyMan You BT and ANC and EQ.
Just got mine today. It's my first time having a ANC headphones. Is it normal that I'm still clearly hearing other people's voices talking even my ANC is on? It cancels the ambient sounds but the sounds of the people is still clearly there.
Yes these don't block out conversation.
Nice review. I have had an issue with these headphones: I have charged with their own cable and they stopped charging at 60%. I have used a 5v/2A charger (got from my phone). How can I avoid this issue? I would like to buy them another time. Thanks
Thanks. Have you another cable to try, and another USB port / wall charger / power bank? Otherwise I'd contact Anker. Good luck.
What do you think about it for working out
I find over headphones too hot for workouts personally - but that's going to be personal preference.
@@TheTechnologyMan really appreciate it. What about it moving on your head when you workout? Doesn't it fall off?
The headphones were pretty secure on my head IIRC.
What rating out of 10 would you give soundcore anker life Q30
At its price point and compared to other headphones I've tested probably an 8 or 9.
Mine won't connect with NFC, am I missing something?
I would double check you can connect with NFC to another device. There is a bit of a knack sometimes!
how do they fit? Do they completely cover ears or stay on ears?
Yes they are over ear headphones - they completely cover my medium sized ears.
Hello, I’m currently using the ASUS Noise Cancelling Plug In and I’m planning to go wireless. Anyway you might or can compare NC-performance between this and the plug in? Thanks!
Thanks for the suggestion!
Was wondering if the custom eq settings only work when music is downloaded, or if it works whilst streaming music (for example on Spotify) as well?
It should be anything played via Bluetooth - local or streaming.
What is your opinion about soundcore life Q35
I've got these to test - but not managed to get to them yet! Thanks for the nudge.
How better are the Q30s from the Q20s if you have encountered with the latter pair?
The ANC is more effective.
@@TheTechnologyMan Even the most basic noise cancelling without the extra features?
Does resetting the headphones make it forget any custom EQ from the app that it was once using?
I think a factory reset will - but I'll try and confirm that next time I have them out.
@@TheTechnologyMan Okay; Thank you!
How is the audio latency on these for say like HBO Max, Netflix etc? Just curious.
Thank you!
I don't have them to hand - but IIRC it was pretty good with Netflix - didn't try HBO.
@@TheTechnologyMan Okay sounds good, thank you for the reply!
The Soundcore Life Tune headphones are the same as the Anker Soundcore Life Q30 ?
I don't know for sure but think they're the same.
OK thanks for the suggestions.
the wired anc mode no longer works
I'll have to check that thanks!
@@TheTechnologyMan Is this due to the new firmware 2.30?
Just received my Q30's . £56 thank you Amazon. Initial sound check not impressive. Knew about the Anker app off Google. Got to the equalizer quickly, boosted bottom base and vocals and the sound came alive. Much better. Build quality not premium, but still OK.
Nice price! And glad you've adjusted the EQ to your liking.
How does multi-point connection work on Q30? Can we do it with click of a button?
Yes a double press of the power button as I show here: 3:36.
I am about to get my Q30 tomorrow. I was just wondering, If i set an eq to my headphones using my phone, will the eq reset whenever I connect/use the headphones to another device? If I use Aux will the eq reset to stock aswell
I'm away so can't check this right now - but IIRC the EQ is remembered on the headphones themselves.
are these water resistant?
No unfortunately not :(.
Hello, is Anker soundcore Q30 better than Sony WH-CH710N?
Sorry that's not something I've tested yet - thanks for the suggestion.
Does the nfc pass through if there is a thick case on the phone?
It works with a case - I didn't try it with a really thick case sorry.
Hi Sir, microphone test was only for a very few seconds and sounds very unnatural. do you think it is a fixable issue with firmware updates??
The second half of the clip after the short pause where the scene also changes to a coffee shop, had quite loud background noise - so the headphones didn't do a bad job. I can't say whether they'll be any firmware updates - you'd have to check with Anker. Hope that helps.
@@TheTechnologyMan There was a firmware update (1.8) to fix the microphone problem, not sure if this video was done after the update or before?
I got Sony WH-XM3000's Used for 130$, should I've got the Q30s instead?
Do you mean XM3's? If so - they are superior headphones and sounds like you got them at a great price!
Thanks you
You're welcome!
Can ANC be used without playing anything (ie music) on them at the same time -> so just to enjoy some quiet by disabling the outside noises (ie in a loud work environment)?
Yes - I often use them like that (particularly useful in the current climate with 4 children schooling from home!)
@@TheTechnologyMan Thanks. I bet that can get a bit hectic ;) Do you in that case just put on the Headphones and enable the ANC via the button...or do you also have to play some kind of "quiet track" in order for ANC to start working?
No you just turn ANC on with the button.
So would you say these have the best ANC out of the 3?
Yes I would. It's not night and day - but it's the most effective I've tried for less than £100/$100.
does the high res audio work in wireless?
Yes that's in wireless.
Do they leak a lot of sound?
As long as you don't push the volume too high they're pretty good.
The Soundcore’s easily sounded the best of the three to me, it wasn’t even close.
They do sound good!
do the earpads replaceable?
Just double checked - doesn't look like they are easily replaceable.
I just purchased some and I love them! But I can't pair them with the app, which means I can't change eq settings etc...I have a Google pixel 4a. Anyone know what might be going on?
Have you made sure they're not connected to another device?
@@TheTechnologyMan Well that's the thing, they are connected to my Bluetooth, so I can listen to music and everything fine, but it's just in the Soundcore app they are not picking up. It just says "searching" and then stops and says "select Bluetooth device from settings" and then I do and nothing happeneds. Sorry this is very long but am grateful for the help 😊
Sorry I don't know - they work ok with an iPhone and basic Android phone I have. I'd contact Anker and see if they can help.
@@TheTechnologyMan no worries bro! Will take em back to the shop that I got them from and see what's going on. Thank you for your time 😊
Good luck!
Are you speeding up your voice, or am I just super high
Try reducing the playback speed to 0.75x - TH-cam does a good job on this. And you can enable captions - I have full transcripts for every video. Hope that helps.
Why assume it can’t be both ?
The volume on PS4 is low, why?
I can't say for sure - I don't have a PS4 to test it with. Have you max'ed out the volume on both the PS4 and the headphones themselves?
is this aptx?
No they don't have aptX.
avantree aria pro how they compare ?
Sorry I've not tried those but thanks for the suggestion!
How's the ANC compared XM4?
I've not tried the XM4s - but the Soundcores aren't as good as the XM3s. When you put the XM3s on, you have almost complete silence in a lot of situations.
@@TheTechnologyMan Awww. Sad
They're still pretty good considering they cost over £200 less!
Q30s take the w in my opinion
They are still a great option for the price!
Bro did you try gaming on it
A little too much latency gaming for me. But you can use the supplied 3.5mm cable.
