    Hey, I've been practicing aikido, judo and bjj, and I find great success with ura otoshi/sumi otoshi variations. Many thanks for this great video!

    Good stuff with interesting variations. I know it as SUMI-OTOSHI (corner drop) in both aikido and judo.

    I'm back at this video after we did some Ura Otoshi drilling yesterday, I might make a video on a no gi idea for it that seems to work for me, I busted my calf muscle a bit so I'll have to be careful for a few days haha, if we make that video I'd love your feedback on it!

      Happy to discuss. There’s much more that can be taught on this technique. The main point is that uke needs to have their foot forward on the same side as the grip.

    Good combo. Bjj and D. Ryu.

    Great technique. I like to do an ippon osoto if uke really defends my seoi. This would be a great secondary attack if they create some space from there. Thanks.

    This forms of Daito-ryu used to study body structure and how it can be locked. No more no less.

    This is pretty cool- huh aikijujutsu... it mixes 2 things i like - bjj and soft arts... i can practice this soft and harder

    This is super exciting..I am a student of Kondo Katsuyuki and have a keen interest in learning BJJ. You answered a longtime question for me about the arts complementing each other. May I DM you sir?

    Enjoying the videos exploring ways to pressure test the kata. What lineage of DTR do you study?

    • @Aiki_and_Jiu
      @Aiki_and_Jiu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Takumakai through a US study group. I’m a bit of the black sheep by training outside the box though 😏

    • @donw6372
      @donw6372 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, DTR is still hyper traditional and doesn’t take too kindly to cross-training. I thought you moved in a familiar way, majority of my teachers are former Takumakai.

    • @Aiki_and_Jiu
      @Aiki_and_Jiu 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it works no gi as well, having a solid grip on the wrist joint. I may put together a future video for this. Thanks👍🏼

    Is there a difference between this and Aiki version of Sumi Otoshi? Or is just in the name? Thank you!

    • @Aiki_and_Jiu
      @Aiki_and_Jiu ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is a similarity with sumi otoshi and this technique. Whether they are the from the same technique, I’m not certain, although they appear very similar.

    What would be the legality in judo

    • @Aiki_and_Jiu
      @Aiki_and_Jiu 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Zero concern. It’s similar to ippon seoi nage, just a different angle.

  • @kenh.5903

    Similar throw in aikido. I hate it, useless technique as far as I'm concerned.

    • @Aiki_and_Jiu
      @Aiki_and_Jiu ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is a pretty solid technique. Timing and angles need to be correct, as with any throw, but you end up in great position after the opponent is on the ground.
