As usual excellent thought process. You call this your enemies, I call this my demons. Regarding the time and responsibilities that come with being a husband and father, while having a full-time job: For my part when I have a time consuming project in mind, I explain it to my partner and we agree on an organization. So rather than putting me to work from the second part of the evening (and finding myself tired the next day at work) we agree on the evenings that we spend together and the one that I spend alone at my office for work on this project. This procedure allows both to settle the question of time and also the question of guilt because I have the approval of my other half :) Regarding the impostor's syndrome, I live it too. But it's simpler since I don't expose myself to the world. I think this syndrome is somewhere a good sign. It is found in people who are rather competent, perfectionists and who see their shortcomings rather than their abilities. We must ensure that identifying these is a resource for working on them, not a source of discouragement. I work a lot on this feeling of not being good enough. I think the key is that when that feeling hinders our power to act, you have to trust yourself a little less and a little more confidence in others. For example, there are reasons why I find you great. You can know your weaknesses and not understand why listening to you comes to enrich my own weaknesses. It is not incompatible. You have to trust the other. If you accept the criticism, the right balance is to accept the compliment. It is easier to accept criticism because it is often explanatory. The compliment is less so, especially when it comes to "likes" or "number of views". And besides, I will not explain to you what I come to look for in your videos and which I love so much, which is an excellent illustration of my point. Good luck with that ;)
Thank you A lot of great advice here. Your approach shows great balance, and it's an equilibrium I aim to achieve. I've already made steps in some of this, and my wife is very supportive of my goals. Other aspects I will work on, but advice from folks like yourself show me that its something that can be done. Thank you again!
Man. Thanks for this. It was really inspiring. The guilt thing really hit home for me because we’re trained as adults to be serious all the time and to not have “childish” hobbies. My brain is constantly questioning if I should be “wasting my time” doing this channel and there is a certain amount of guilt that goes along with that. This is a great video man. Very relatable. Keep writing and take care!
Thank you. I think anyone who makes content for TH-cam will always face some form of guilt, in part brought about by the judgement of others but mostly from ourselves. Keep up the good work with your own channel.
Honest and insightful video. Thank you for putting into words what bedevils many of us. "We are our own worst enemy," as they say. Our internal "critic", our doubts, excuses and general "self talk" taking place inside our heads can easily prevent us from achieving our dreams. "Push on!" I know from experience this is easier said than done. Cheers, and best of luck in your endeavor!
Time can never be truly defeated, because you can always have far more ideas than you have available time. That does mean you have to assign priorities a bit; it might be great if you could write, do graphics, design 3D models, make battlemaps etc. but some of those will always have to be pushed down the list. How I deal with most of my writing is a system. I work on a rather high number of supplements at the same time. Many work well for systematic progress, because they have definite discrete components that can be worked on, such as one entry on a list of 100. Others may be less easy to divide up. My system is to work through my list of currently active projects one at a time, so that hopefully each project gets a little further advanced every day,
Yes to all that! Totally recognise everything you say. Somehow you have to find a way through and do it anyway. For me, I had a health scare and it was the kick to get published. But not just that, I kind of had to trick myself. I wasn't writing, I was just jotting down a few notes. And then joining them up. Surprise, something was finished! I am convinced I am a hack at best, but I have earned my £1. And I know you are a better writer than me!
Good evening Humble. Once again proving nature in the name. Hope you are well. I understand completely where you are coming from in relation to time (father, finance, key worker). I can also relate to the other aspects you have presented. Since my comment on your previous video, the only thing I've managed to do in relation to my own project is complete a table of contents for me to work towards. I find that taking it in steps helps, though you probably already know that. Lack of self confidence is the biggest hurdle for myself. Unlike yourself (working on a supplement for an already established system) I decided to go whole hog (probably a mistake lol) by working on my own system (or take on a previous system I should say) so as to fit my own world, the basics of which I already have the outline for as I used it for a D&D campaign a few years back. The biggest knock back for me was that I thought I'd come up with something unique, a world design I hadn't found in other RPG's or fantasy fiction until one day I walked into Waterstones to look at some new releases, picked up a novel, thought it looked good and bought it. After reading it, the list of expletives was a long one. The author must have had something similar in mind because it was almost my world to a tee, probably because of that, the series he wrote after has become one of my favourite fantasy series ever. This became my major hurdle. I kept thinking why should I bother now that it's already been done etc but once I got over the similarities and confirmed the differences I forced myself to get back on the horse. It may no longer be the unique take on the fantasy RPG I wanted it to be, but at least it will be different enough to stand on it's own. Wishing you all the best in your endeavor and look forward to hearing more about the project as it progresses. Anything I can do to help a fellow gamer please let me know :)
Thank you, and thank you for sharing. Nothing quite like when you think you have something unique only to find its be done before, but there is a lot be said about putting your own spin on it. Wishing you all the best with you project! I'd love to see some of your work!
Great video. As a non english speaker that is actually writing in English I can say that the more you write the easier it gets my main problem is the lack of vocabulary. The best advice I can give you is start small don’t think on an epic adventure. See drawings, maps or anything that might trigger inspiration. What I also do a lot is usage of a Trello when ever I have bullet point idea I write their. And then see where that tiny dot take me afterwards. Also having people that encourage to do it is the best. I wouldn’t have started writing without the ZWEIHÄNDER Librarians
You understand what the enemy is. I think that's half a battle. When you do have time to create and you may not be performing up to your expectations. Step back and think. If you get an idea the least bit good then write it down.
I got published by Kenzer kind of by luck. I approached one of the people from the company at a con and pitched my scenarios. He told me to write a short sample scenario and send it to them. I did so and they actually published it and paid me! Actually, they published it before they even told me they were going to publish it. That led to three more scenarios all connected by a common story arc that was actually published by them for 3rd Edition D&D. I'm also working on some self publishing for Call of Cthulhu through the Miskatonic Repository which allows you to publish Call of Cthulhu product on DriveThruRPG and pocket part of the profits. Have you thought about that avenue? I envy you your TH-cam channel. I have trouble getting double digits on most of my videos.
That's amazing! Having the confidence to do that is something I'm working on. I'm thinking of using the zweihander library which is there version of the "d&d guild". I think that's similar to the Miskatonic repository. Thanks for your story.
We all have our monsters man. Here's to standing with you to see the bastards off

Also- Demons sounds a lot cooler!

Because the demon is within and we constatly struggle with it :)
I see the enemy as an exterior factor.

By putting it into words hopefully we can dispell such negative thoughts

I am definitely getting myself organized. I joked for years how I never used a work diary or day planner...now one seems invaluable
@@YourHumbleGameMaster I love being organised. I'm just not very good at organising myself!

Sorry to hear about the health scare, but motivation takes many forms.
