Much has been modified be the museum. The court was never covered. The two small, but functional, cannons were by the east door and aimed at the stone boat. That could of expanded the story. I was there before the museum "restored". it. It is beautiful, but fake in many parts.
Any modifications made to the estate and its collection are done only when necessary. A glass canopy was added to the Main House as part of the plan to enclose the space, adding an HVAC system, to help protect the building and its contents from the effects of the natural environment and the hurricanes and storms that frequent Miami. The museum is open and discusses these changes as part of tours as well as on our website and social media. Anything not historic or original is presented as such for transparency.
