Pausing is better than ummm, aaah sounds, but it is so difficult to feel confident while pausing, my reaction for any pause is to fill it with any sound otherwise it feels like everyone is expecting me to say something
You're sooo right!! It can feel especially awkward if the interjection like um/uh are a habitual pattern in our speech. It's so funny how pausing actually makes you sound more confident as a result.
Hello Rebecca. I hope you're doing well. Very rare and useful video. I have a question: How is the "u" in the word "bury" pronounced? Like the "a" in "rake" or like the "e" in "left" ? Thank you.
I'm so glad you found this lesson helpful! 🙂 "Bury" has a typical pronunciation of /beri/ the same pronunciation as a "berry" , the fruit. /e/ often also often seen as a diphthong /ei/ in IPA. There are very often slight inconsistencies among dictionaries IPA as there are dialectal variations. Depending on which dictionary you use, you'll see differences, but that's just part of ever-changing speech! I hope that is helpful!
@@proactivepronunciation Very helpful ! Thank you for this more than complete answer. You're the best. I'm going to buy the course that you just released (about intonation) :) Are you on tik tok? If not, you should be. Your courses have a potential you don't even realize.
My pleasure! No, not on tiktok... maybe one day when I have time to expand. Awesome, I really hope you like the intonation course! And thank you for your very kind compliment:) You're too kind. Reach out any time if you have questions!
