Ice Cream Mangos - Tasting Florida Mangos

- Today, Craig and Valerie taste an Ice Cream Mango grown here at our farm, Sulcata Grove.
We will be tasting both mangos grown at our own farm on the west coast of Florida and from other Florida farms (mainly on the east coast). Mangos taste different when grown in different conditions and when picked at different times/ripened differently. Our opinions of a particular mango are just that - opinions on one specific mango, off of a specific tree, growing in a a specific location. We are not evaluating a variety in general and by no means intend to offend anyone by our less than stellar review of what might be your favorite mango.
Sulcata Grove is our 2 acre, backyard food forest. We grow over 60 varieties of bananas along with many fruit trees. Our videos are family friendly.

We planted ours 2 years ago and now has 60 fruits on it we are excited
monique m what did you fertilize is with?
@@aandistudiophotographyvide2986 I used fruit tree fertilizer spikes and some cow manure. We live in south Florida so lots of sun and plenty of water with rain and our sprinkler s.
monique m thank you for info
How big is it now?
@@aandistudiophotographyvide2986 just under 6 feet
Sounds like a good mango. Great review.
I love my ice cream mango never experienced any disease but she's a slow grower. To put in perspective i planted all my mango trees at the same time and there all around 20+ feet with yearly pruning and the ice cream is only around 10 feet with no trimming and lite crop every year 20ish mangoes a year.
Ours has done pretty well too. Are you close to the coast or have nice breezes where you are? Ours seems to flower 2-3 times within a 6 week period, which helps extend the season a bit.
@@SulcataGrove We're in port saint Lucie and same here 2-3 times flowering a season.
Got one tree two years ago. There’s 4 fruit on it now and new flowers coming 🤞
It's an older video that we didn't get around to uploading until recently. I think the film date should be in the description
Sounds like yum!
Ah-ha... so "brown leaf tips" can be a sign of anthracnose. Here in Lehigh Acres, Fl, I am battling the anthracnose w/ Copper. Thanks for the note, re: ice cream / anthracnose. Unfortunately, striking that one off the list. I need anthracnose resistant, like Mahachanok or Nam Doc Mai. (BTW, I'm still trying to figure out if my Cotton Candy mango is / will have an anthracnose problem. Last Fall the little tree was struggling, I thought anthracnose. However, a nice flush began a few weeks ago, and looks healthy without any treatment. I have my fingers crossed.)
Hello what other varities do you have ???????????

Hi. nice variety mines died second year. By the way have you tried the butterscotch sapodilla. If so how much do you like it lol!?
Rodney Rutledge sorry to hear that. A friend gifted us a Butterscotch sapodilla tree, but I haven’t tasted the fruit yet. Hoping it’s a great one. I removed our 3 year old Morena to make room for it.
How tall do you keep your tree???
i.am.remy I think it’s around 8’
What is your average temp
Summer’s have been highs of 95 and lows of 75°. The lowest winter temps have been 28°
Hi how can I get a scion from your farm?
I don’t sell scions at this time, but Tropical Acres Farms does a couple of times a year.
