Warriors will probably trade the Wolves pick and their own for an all-star player or proven veterans. As a Warriors fan, I feel a bit worried about a rookie developing in the Warriors organization. The team seems so be at a crossroads between putting all the chips in or staying competitive but drafting for the future. After seeing how the Warriors handled Eric Pascall, Nico Mannion, and particularly, James Wiseman, I can’t say that any player would be successful. The last homegrown talent to be successful before JTA is Looney. Rookies require special attention, as management can mold them to fit the scheme of the team that drafted them. Plus, the lack of patience that some fans have is absolutely pitiful.
Davion Mitchell definitely fits on the Warriors system, but they already have a player like him. His name is Gary Payton II and already 28 years old. He was the 2021 G LEAGUE DPOY. Back to Mitchell, I already claim he's gonna be a draft steal. He's already 22 years old, which means he knows his role. I kinda like sharife and bouknight more. I think Knicks are trying to go for both of them. Bouknight is from NY and said to the Knicks he wants to play for them
People just need to use their eyes with his shot. If he's that comfortable creating jumpshots off of the bounce, and the vast majority of his jumpers look fluid, smooth and comfortable... Then he can freaking shoot lol. Don't overthink it. The FT shooting % is on a very low sample size. And he very likely struggled from 3 early adjusting to the size he was playing against. And there-in lies his biggest issue... his size. He's just small. And there will be certain limitations with that. Dude is an NBA player tho.
I don't understand why we didn't trade down a couple spots for him so that we could get some more value out of the pick. Happy with the prospect but not as much when Bouknight & Moodey were still on the board
As much as I like Jalen Suggs I feel like Mitchell would be a better fit with a team like the Golden State Warriors who can be a great on-ball defender from the guard position and be an explosive playmaker who can break down the defense to open things up for shooters like Steph and Klay. Being able to be alongside all-time great shooters should also bode well for his shooting development.
I respect that opinion, but I strongly disagree. Suggs at 19 was nearly as good as Mitchell as an on-ball defender and also has ELITE anticipation in the passing lanes. Suggs is also a better/bigger athlete with more vertical pop than Mitchell. Jalen isn’t currently on the level of Mitchell as a 3pt shooter, but the FT% from Davion concerns me a little for his actual long term 3pt potential. Jalen has great form and a quick release even if his release point is slightly low. I think Jalen will shoot it similarly to Mitchell in the long run in the NBA (in the neighborhood of 38%). What separates the two as prospects is passing vision (Jalen is a small notch below the Luka/Trae level but not much and his execution and actual passing ability/creativity is every bit of Luka) and age. Jalen has a higher ceiling simply due to age. No matter the team I’d take Jalen ahead of Mitchell because of long term potential. I also believe Jalen can help a rotation immediately because of defensive effort/playmaking and his passing. I’d also bet by the time his rookie season rolls around Suggs will be a solid enough shooter with the potential to be above average to good (36-39%) in a short time.
