    Strangely, I actually like the VO2 max because I know I am getting better doing them. I'm repeating SSB1 now and look forward to SSB2 with the VO2 max intervals. I just mentally push/challenge myself by saying...hey it's only for 30 seconds, 1 minute. 2 minute etc. As the young lady stated before I know it, I've completed the workout...and happy.

      Such a tough mental game to convince yourself to keep holding on! So glad to hear you're enjoying them and that you're getting stronger :)

    I agree to that these 10min videos are a realyl good format! Kind of following on from this. Just an idea for a topic to cover. Can you build strength and muscle on the bike with particular workouts? For general health, I'm more concerned about more muscle mass than what my FTP is. I love cycling, but to be fair, strength training is most likely better for general health, and to get some of those benefits.
    Another idea for a topic is troubleshooting fatigue mgmt. E.g. how do know if you're eating enough, sleeping enough etc. My point is more, how do you find out if its one or the other thing that you're not doing right in your recovery.

      @TrainerRoad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For building muscle mass, resistance training in the gym will likely be a better option than cycling if that is your primary goal.
      That being said, for supplemental strength training on the bike, slow cadence work (~60 rpm) can be beneficial, however, it is important that you pay special attention to the alignment of your knees since this type of training can put a higher strain on your joints.

      @@TrainerRoad thanks, absolutely. That's why I was thinking specifically of strength training on the bike.

    Hi guys, firstly, I just want to say your channel is incredible. Thank you for such great content!!
    I started about 6 weeks ago doing Trainer Road sessions with the ramp test, but due to lack of income, I had to cancel the subscription. My FTP was scored at 204w (which had dropped from 220w due to lack of training), so I expected as much.
    But I’ve spent the last 6 weeks doing structured sweet spot & threshold training and as my brother has Zwift, I thought I’d try out a ramp test on there.
    I know I’ve improved as I’m feeling stronger, but my FTP came out as 238 watts. I know the two ramp tests are different, so it’s hard to compare, but that seems a pretty large increase in just 6 weeks. Do you think it’s possible? Or would it be due to the testing method?
    Again, thanks for the great videos. I’ve learned a lot from you all 🙌🏻

    Question - so if you do your TrainerRoad workout outside but hit an interval or effort on a downhill etc.that isn’t appropriate, do you wait? Daft question possibly

    How many SS workouts per week (3x20 @90%) is ideal to continue to build and not burnout? 3 sessions?

    • @PDS_37

      Probably 2 ss workouts per week would be fine. Depends what you're training for

      @@marcdaniels9079 he actually says 2 or 3 high intensity sessions, which SS certainly isn't. You can do SS 4-5x a week easy. Look at the high volume plans.

    I am a collegiate racer I am mostly a sprinter (ftp-260 W, max power - 1470 W, weight - 190 lb) how should I train for this off season? should I try to bring my ftp up or continue to build my max power or something else?

      You have a Godly max power and a poor FTP. Don't follow advice ftom these people. Training at tempo most of the time to cut down time a really poor way to train. You might make gains, but it is suboptimum.

      @@BFinesilver2 Ive been on the mid volume rolling road race plan for the last 8 months or so and I am peaking for a race this weekend. My ftp is up to 310+ (idk exactly what is is but my last test was 308 and I know Im a little stronger now) I now weigh 180 lb and I have been focusing on sprinting the last couple of weeks (because I noticed a dropoff from my sprint power previously) and I have brought it back to ~ 1450 W max with 1100W for 15 seconds today. I am really happy with the results I have gotten from TR. Although I wish you could tailor your peak (as a sprinter, I did not like the sprint work outs it gave me because it was more focused on repeatability instead of peak power), but I have just replaced the sprint workouts with my own workouts to practice different elements of sprinting.

    People pretending that they know what they are talking about. Sweetspot is just the wrong way to train. All evidence shows that nothing replaces polarized training and at least 18 hours a week.

    • @TrainerRoad
      @TrainerRoad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Ben! Though limited when it comes to cycling, the research and evidence does suggest Polarized training can be effective, but it’s not clear whether it is best for all athletes in all circumstances. We cover those studies and their interpretation surrounding this topic in-depth here, maybe worth a read! Cheers. www.trainerroad.com/blog/polarized-training-for-cyclists-what-it-is-and-how-to-try-it/
