    Updated Item: www.banggood.c...
    This item was sent to me by Banggood.com. Overall this seems to be a nice kit for the price, and certainly an attractive clock when powered up. It features CR2032 battery backup for timekeeping and various colour combinations are selectable on the website when purchasing.
    Thanks for watching! #ElectronicsCreators

    Nice review Steve. Cool looking clock too.
    I thought the editing error was funny.. Sounds like incoming comms from the International Space Station 😉
    Cheers

    Too late...I desoldered it and broke 4-legs...damn it! After I removed it I thought about doing the exact thing you advised...to just leave it in. I soldered the socket in and inserted the chip with the broken legs and did a continuity test on all the legs and all were making contact so I'm going to cross my fingers to see if it all works once I'm done putting it all together. As I mentioned in the other post I don't know very much about electronics and thought you had to have a socket installed for the chip to work. Now I know better and it was an inexpensive lesson. I will keep you updated...if that's ok with you.

    The new version of this set, the clock has become much larger, and is now completely made on smd elements, the usual LEDs have been replaced with RGB th-cam.com/video/sI8WzTf9uBQ/w-d-xo.html

    Good Job, I enjoy kits like this. I am going to get one. I would like to buy one like this as the one I found was mostly surface mount and they can be a drag to put together.

    I have 2 of this, in red digits. I bought them already made (welded). But in NONE of them, the dots (DP1 & DP2) flash in time MODE. Is it a Firmware problem? Can you scan this instructions. I can't find them anywhere. Thanks my friend!!!

  • @toddy2519

    Hi Steve!
    I came back and watched your video again. My clock, which we discussed 1 year ago or so, didn't work properly after the "fixes" we talked about so I put it for 7-8 months. Powered it up again and it works fine and has been since then! Did it "heal" itself? [strange isn't it?}
    Now I have the upgraded version {EC1515B VO3} which I built. Firstly it powered up but many of the LED patterns didn't work right and the clock face didn't either so I went back and redid the solder points. Now, when powered up all it says is "EOR 3 "(Error3).
    Any idea what's wrong now? I built this for my 7-year old grandsons' birthday (in 2 weeks) to teach him how to tell time. I can't find any info on theses error codes, even from Banggood whom I purchased it from.
    Please help!!!!!!

    Great tutorial, thank you. Can I ask you please, how many solder connections to the mini usb should there be? all the pins on mine dont appear to be long enough to go through the board to solder them. Thank you very much. John... :)

    Hey there, I've put together one of these myself and have run into a little issue. When I plug the miniUSB in, all of the LEDs light up, but stay on constantly. The buzzer makes a steady buzzing and the clock reads Eor2. I'm gonna try to lift the crystal off the board, but any other ideas? Thanks!

    • @rickallen3108
      @rickallen3108 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EOR2 indicates a failure of the thermistor circuit. Check your soldering and be sure the thermistor (RT1) , which reads the temperature, is properly installed.
      Also be sure you placed a 20k resistor in the R10 position on the circuit board.
      The thermistor looks very much like a glass diode in appearance.

  • @toddy2519
    @toddy2519 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Steve...I'm back again! All finished but when plugged in the clock reads ''Eor 1". The instructions, at the bottom of a page shows that error but doesn't explain or show any solutions. Any idea what's wrong? (the LEDs don't light up...just the clock face)
    Thanks in advance.

    • @rickallen3108
      @rickallen3108 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The error indicates either of a soldering or connection problem with the DS1302 (8-Pin) Clock chip. Depending on who you bought the kit from, they may be willing to replace the chip or the kit...

    • @toddy2519
      @toddy2519 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rick Allen...thank you very much for getting back to me! Now I know where to start looking to hopefully solve the problem. I have two more kits (B versions) so I'll look to see if they use the same chips and/or clock. Thanks again!!!!!!

    • @toddy2519
      @toddy2519 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rick, I replaced the chip with another I had from another kit. It worked, but only for a short while. After about twelve hours of run time the clock starting malfunctioning. Bought it from BangGood and if you are familiar with them then you know returning defective goods requires at least one video for them to rview, I won't bother!
      Thanks again for your help!

    Is there a way to change the time display from 24 to 12 hour display?

    • @rickallen3108
      @rickallen3108 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This version does not support 12 hour time display. The newer version (EC1515B) provides this function and Fahrenheit temperature display as well.

  • @toddy2519
    @toddy2519 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Steve, I screwed up! I put the small clock chip on the PCB and soldered it in not seeing and realizing it had a separate socket that was to be soldered in...have I destroyed that chip? (I feel so stupid but I'm fairly new to electronics which is why I bought this kit to practice on.)

    • @sdgelectronics
      @sdgelectronics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should be fine unless you overheated the chip. Turn it on and see!

    • @toddy2519
      @toddy2519 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to solder the 48 red LEDs in...I haven't completed the build yet. Will get back to you and let you know how it turns out. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly...I'm about to desolder the chip...wish me luck!

    • @sdgelectronics
      @sdgelectronics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't desolder it, if it works then leave it as it is.

    Hi I've just built this V3 and got it going fine, but, it's gaining 2 mins an hour, any idea what may be wrong? Clock chip or the crystal perhaps? Cheers

    • @sdgelectronics
      @sdgelectronics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alan Clarke you could try adjusting the load capacitors on the 32kHz crystal as you don't have access to anything else.

    • @rickallen3108
      @rickallen3108 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This version (EC1515A) does not support either 12 hour time display or Fahrenheit temperature. The newer version (EC1515B) does support these
      functions.

      If these kits came with the source code, you would be able to mod them to do that kind of things. Those little 8051 clones are very versatile.
