    I spend all my days watching train cab view, truck cab view etc and you are the only one who tells us when you make an edit and for how long the edit was cut, save yourself a lot of hard work, just make the edit, we can see the jump in time, great videos

      I include the amount of time edited out so that the purists can calculate, if they wish, just how much time is wasted sitting at traffic lights, or that a 7 second dwell time is possible with a slick driver and just one or two people getting on off. Some people have asked me not to edit out time at all,but the attention span many viewers is particularly short and they will soon quit a video where nothing important is happening.

      As a retiree, I try to keep myself occupied with mental activity and some physical activity. Also I try to avoid the irritations I see in the occasional videos I see of others people. If at least some people appreciate the way I do things, it is worth the trouble 😄

      @@tressteleg1 I certainly appreciate the frequent captioning. You're always careful to have it appear at the right time for it to be relevant. And the shortened footage is a nice feature, especially for the short attention span everybody my age has gotten. Sometimes I am really interested in something but my attention span just dies on me...
      Funnily enough, sometimes I skip forward with the arrows, then skip back because I saw a hint of something interesting when I thought there wouldn't be, and so I end up wasting more seconds than I saved... that's a fun one.

      @briannem.6787 It’s nice that some watchers appreciate the extra effort I put into the videos. Nevertheless the view time is disappointingly low. The average for this video so far is eight minutes 30 seconds, a bit more than average although I discovered recently that if somebody watches a 20 minute video at double time, it counts as only 10 minutes of viewing. So this low view time gives me the impression that a lot of people have only a short span of attention although I must admit that on the odd occasion I watch a video myself, it’s usually at double time. Depends on whether there is voice to listen to.

    at 19:14 you can see the traffic light's magnetic car detector coil is wedged in between the tram rails tightly, probably not super interesting for most but looks sorta funny
    I presume the one just before the switch is instead for detecting the tram driver's direction change signal? (The driver briefly stops on it in the video)

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That detector loop right at the intersection is very likely waiting to receive the radio signal from the transponder hanging from the front of the tram. Whether the same loop can detect the metal of a motorcar, I don’t know. If not, a second loop for cars would be nearby.
      Nearly every junction has “automatic“ points and the loop control box reads the signal and sets the points accordingly. A loop for that purpose is usually at least one tram length before the junction. Stopping at facing points is a rule so that the driver has time to carefully check which way the point blades are set before proceeding.

    A nice tram route. Bringst me back in the old days😊 The old terminus at Princess Bridge was good. And a lot of noble Car dealers in Swan Street. Now i only need about $200 000 to buy a car there 😂

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m not sure why they abandoned the original Batman Ave. It was a good quick run down to Swan st and the Tennis Centre on the way. Now you have to walk, or catch the 70 in slow Flinders St. Apart from the car dealers still being there, I have no idea whether they sell new or old. Hopefully the weather in Melbourne will be good from next Friday, but doubtful at present.

      Here in germany our winter is crazy. At christmas we had a lot of raining and also floods in lower Saxionia und now we have at lot of snow and ice.
      I heared about a cyclone in Queensland in December.

      @@peterausfranken In September they promised us a hot dry summer. While it has not been cool, there have been many wet days since that time and most days this year have had some rain, the highest fall at my place being 94 mm one day with 74 mm and 50 mm other days. Our major water supply dam is flowing over the top. So I should not be surprised that your weather is a bit odd also. That cyclone in the Cairns region was not so bad for wind, but the major rainfall which followed was more of a worry. And it’s possible another cyclone is forming at present.

    • @tressteleg1

      Yes, and nothing to do with Batman and Robin. John Batman was one of the founders of Melbourne in the early 1800s.

      In the early days of Melbourne the east side of Collins Street when it goes up from Swanson Street was called Batman Hill

      @peterl1964 I don’t know if place name have been changes since your visit, but nowadays when westbound trams cross over Spencer St and climb the hill to go over the Southern Cross station rail tracks, that hill is called Batman’s Hill. A Google Earth search should show you. Also this video may help.

      @@tressteleg1 From 1972 until 1975 i had a teacher and he had 3 books about old Melbourne from 1830 until 1920. There was a plan of Melbourne in the time around 1850 an a plan from 1920. In both times the hill on the east side of Swanson Street was named Batman Hill. Maybe it changed later.

      If you think that’s crowded, you should see the place at the weekend! Packed trams in and out of the city for much of the day, with headways of 10 minutes or better on some lines.
      I will do a video about that in due course. Probably will be called ‘How busy is your city centre on Sunday?’ With the USA in mind, where I expect most city centres are dead. Many seem to have no central shopping district.
